Today’s Knee Jerk can’t help but have a very personal touch to it. I was so positive, I was even willing to cheer United on to a 10-0 victory if they so desired, all I asked was that Nani could keep quiet for one game. He did not.
90 minutes against Bolton and the Portuguese winger once again put his hat in the ring marked “essential” alongside players like Drogba, Bale and Malouda with a goal and assist away at Bolton. A dab handful of bonus points are surely more than likely to follow from the judges committee this evening too, no doubt…
As for the elusive Granville, the title says it all really. After Saturday I had finally passed my colleague and rival in the Contributors League on the slender margin of transfers made and ventured to make my first move up the Scout’s table. It appears to be short lived.
A captains haul of 20+ points looks to have put paid to any resurrection for me this gameweek, as I leave myself clinging to hopes that my remaining “differentials” in Barton, Shawcross and Enrique can bridge some of the gap in the week’s final kick-off.
All credit to Granny though, as well as Big Dunc, for having the gumption to choose a player who was as low down as ninth on the Fantasy Football Scout captain’s poll this week, with just 4% of the vote. I’m just bitter.
As for Nani, well he just goes from strength to strength. While Rooney appears disinterested, and the rest of the midfield offer little in terms of fantasy interests, he has been a consistent performer for United this season. With Antonio Valencia ruled out until well into the New Year, and Ryan Giggs appearing to pick up a hamstring knock today, his place in the United XI looks to be guaranteed for a long period to come.
Having been involved in 7 of United’s last 11 goals – Florent Malouda, one of his main midfield rivals for example, has been involved in 29% of Chelsea’s goals to date this season – the winger is showing how much of an asset he is to his club right now, and still provides relatively good value in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game for a star performer in one of the top four sides, at only £8.4m and rising.
If United are going to score goals, we can expect Nani to be picking up fantasy points at a rate of knots if his contributions from the right continue to be as key for the Red Devils as they have been over the last month.
On this level of form, it looks like it’s not a case of if we’re going to bring Nani – for those of us don’t own him yet – into our fantasy squads, more a matter of when.
