The international break beckons, the Fantasy Premier League wildcards will be fluttering and after today’s games, there’s little doubt where you can find the first profit-making bandwagon.

Rafael Van der Vaart’s two goals against Villa at the Lane today won the game and will surely fetch him his second maximum FPL Bonus Point haul of the season. The Dutchman has arrived in the Premier League, hit the ground running and has established himself as not only a creative force but also a direct and devastating threat on the oppositions goal.

So the Van der Vaart “transfer in” is a no brainer. Well not quite. Gareth Bale appears to have hogged the limelight around here in the last 24 hours and he suddenly becomes a consideration again when it comes to coveting his influential team-mate.

Can any Fantasy lineup afford to have two Tottenham players, let alone two of their midfield? Those Fantasy Managers who have resisted the charms of Bale or even shipped out the Welshman over the frustration of his ever-changing role, can turn to Van der Vaart without hesitation. Bale owners however have a conundrum to consider.

During a kind run of fixtures having two Spurs players would be palatable but Redknapp’s side face three away games in the next four, one of which is at Old Trafford. Their home fixture meanwhile has them facing Everton – a side who have conceded just two goals in four away games and who sealed the season-starting win today at Birmingham. That won’t be easy.

Between these four fixtures, Spurs will face a Champions League tie at Inter for undoubtedly their biggest European tie so far. The fixture falls after Gameweek 8’s trip to Fulham and before the home game with Everton. Even if we felt that Van der Vaart was a rotation risk (it doesn’t look that way), he is suspended for the San Siro visit after his red against FC Twente in midweek. That will surely mean that the Dutchman is protected from being rested for both the Fulham and Everton games. The same perhaps can’t be said for Bale, who could either be rested at Fulham, or find himself at left-back once again away from home.

Is this enough to seal the fate for the 50% Bale and see thousands make the switch to jump aboard the Van dar Vaart bandwagon? Bale’s 1 point return today and his failure to notch a goal or an assist in his last five league starts, isn’t a statistic that helps his cause.

This is the knee jerk – so in-depth thinking isn’t allowed. For now there’s no doubt that Van der Vaart has become a hugely influential figure for Redknapp’s side, who having started four out of four league games since his arrival, looks to have his role well and truly cemented. Right now that role appears to allow him license to support a lone striker and provide a constant menace to opponents.

Van der Vaart will surely play the next two matches at Fulham and against Everton. Based on showings so far, he will take free-kicks, he will notch around 10 efforts on goal, he will earn Bonus Points if Spurs can win those matches. With an international break now beckoning, he will surely rise in price at least twice between now and Gameweek 8. It’s hard to deny the Dutchman’s draw.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        haha i saw it too.
my theory on how they work it is it depends on how late the deflection comes relative to the length of the assist pass. the later the deflection the more likely the assist is to count. as davies' pass was deflected the second he hit it then travelled about 10 yards to dempsey it wasn't given. the earlier the deflection the harder it is to tell what direction the pass would have gone without the deflection as you have no time to assess it's trajectory, spin etc etc. n'zogbia's was the opposite, the deflection is at the end of the pass

Try applying your theory to Darren Bent's assist from last season (can't remember the game)....

Waldaz is right though. The Hart case gives us all hope!

as far as i remeber the bent one the deflection didn't alter the direction of the ball, you could see it carried on on the same line, BUT it did drastically alter the height of the cross making it go over the keeper who would have caught it otherwise.
i still think the split-second-ness (great word) of the berra/rodallega simultaneous touch is why n'zogbia has (so far) got the benefit of the doubt.

Anyway, I just can't get over the fact that Wigan had lost possession the moment that Berra touched the ball. Fulham never lost possession from Davies' pass to Dempsey.

It's worth waiting to see. His next two look tougher from a defensive point of view. If he's still in the team come GW10 he'll not be much more than 4.4m then and we'll know more about his standing in the squad.

Never like doing early transfers but these are screaming at me:
    Kalinic>Odemwingie and Bale>VdV [4pt hit]
Done before price rises will leave me with the pennies necessary to do Gerrard>Fabs when I'm ready.
    Good idea d'ya think?

I know it's wrong, i know i will regret it in the morning and i will spend the rest of week worrying about injuries, but the thought of those extra pounds, the easy pick up and getting in before anyone else and i just can't resist.

Yeah I think I'll be holding onto him, had initially planned to get rid of him this week..

He's pretty much unrivalled at that price, 5 assists in 7 games is very impressive, and he could possibly be on penalties as well as virtually every set piece. Judging by MOTD he could have easily scored more than 9 points today...

Only problem is that Stoke are gash away from home... so Etherington doesn't tend to score many points in the away games.

Well he was originally going to be my Etherington replacement, but I'm not going to be making that transfer... Although if I keep Malouda, then I may end up transferring Bale to N'Zog (or Petrov).

Even last season N'Zogbia wasn't involved in that many goals, and Wigan went through periods of scoring a few goals. This season they are really struggling to score...

Yep. I've had plenty of points on my bench, some key injuries, backed the wrong horses at the start of the season and then missed the boat when I got the right ones in.

                  Confident now though.

            I think I'll wait.

Fabregas has a nice week next, but then City away after that.

It's worth waiting two games, especially since he might not start the game at Birmingham. It's worth losing those potential points, especially since other people are unlikely to move mountains to get him in and his price will likely stabilize.

My one other free transfer this week is still up though. I think I'll try jumping on another bandwagon. See how it goes tomorrow.

Not sure yet. A midfield bandwagon preferably. I have leeway, Bale can afford to drop 0.1 without costing me, so I'll jump on any decent midfielder that scores well tomorrow. Currently plan on getting Nasri. I reckon he'll still score well even with Fabregas back in the team. His influence on the Arsenal team is much greater than it was last season.

So I have completely knee jerked and made two transfers already before the international games to avoid price rises because my money is tight and need to be able to bring in Fab. I went ahead and did Gerrard -> Nani and Bale -> VDV. Leaving me with the following lineup for GW8

    Hahn - Foster
    Alex - Shawcross - Enrique - Jara - Konchesky
    Malouda - VDV - Nani - Dempsey - Y. Toure
    Drogba - Carrol - Berbatov

Then after next week I plan on either :
    a) getting rid of Malouda for Fab in a direct swap if I want to keep 2 top gun strikers or;
    b) do Dempsey -> Fab and downgrade Berbatov -> low-end striker (Odem/Obinna maybe).

Sound good or am I crazy? Would play 5 midfielders most weeks and rotate Carrol and my other cheapie.

yes play 5 mids most weeks, it's what i like to do because they have a scope for more points than the other positions.
i looked at the points tallies from last year, and the midfielders had much more points than the defenders (hence, most top people play three at the back). 3-5-2 all the way!!!!

Comparisons with Carrick ring true. I've always thought he's been a little hard done by, as strange as that sounds. Carrick at Tottenham was fantastic, he'd be good for them now, though of course Hudd is doing that role pretty well.

Huddlestone isnt a holding player. He is quite poor defensively.
He is a deep lying play maker who occupys same space as a holder but has completly different role. eg Pirlo

Yes but Holding is a way to play.

It generally means no more than 2 yard passes and extreme discipline in central areas.

Huddlestone is Pirlo to Palcious Gattuso in proper games.

Someone has been been reading a bit of ZonalMarking... 😉

Mikel - Chelsea's best player this season.

Although I would disagree that he 'has been misunderstood for too long'. He's playing very differently to how he did last season... Much more confident this year, and is making plenty of important passes, rather than just slowing down the play like last year.

    Should i WC?

    http://fantasy.premierleague.c.....mp;event=7

    Some changes i was thinking:

    Givet > Samba
    Taylor Fletcher > Jones
    Bale > VdV
    Gerrard > Fabregas/Nani
Davies > Someone like Etherington/Arteta/Dempsey perhaps

Or take a 4 point hit and just do Gerrard > Nani and Taylor-Fletcher > Jones?

Want to know before the price changes tonight, thanks.

were in this together now Rock! I am on WC, team at moment is:

            Foster/KRUL
            Elmohamady/Jara/GOHOURI/TOURE/CRAINEY
            Nani/Malouda/YAYA/ALBRIGHTON/VAN DER VAART
            ODEMWINGIE/TEVEZ/Drogba

All the CAPS are new players brought in today. Gohouri and Crainey will be upgraded once I hopefully make .2 (.1 profit) on Toure, probably Givet and Coleman but I'll see. YAYA will be the same, seeing if I can make the .2 on him. Malouda may go aswell, I'll have to see, Arteta might come in there, but it will be a long 2 weeks!

            Teams as it stands: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/entryhist.mc?id=977

actually Rock, your team isn't that bad. Bar Davies/Taylor Fletcher, there is no one you really have to have out, I would hold if I were you as you have the funds to do Gerrard OUT Fabregas IN when needs be, and the others are just 2 moves.

Damn! i was happy with your first comment, alot of people are telling me to hold off but i think i would be happier if i used it, i'm good at keeping my WC and never really need it at all last season, just used it at the end of the season but i could have managed without.

I know there are only a couple i really need to do but its a good time to use it, and the cup is up next GW 😉

International break is a long two weeks Rock, Nani could be injured playing for Portugal, not worth the .1 to my mind, and it's not like he will rise by .2 in the break having done nothing today, the sheep will be clearly focused on VDV and Arteta in that price bracket now

maybe .2 on VDV/Toure and Odemwingie for starters (Odemwingie depends on whether Carroll does nought tomorrow) - much depends on tomorrow, and how City do against Newcastle for the two Toures and Tevez, need some big games from my new signings!

Don't expect a whole lot of profits Rock, plan to make .2 on Toures and offload then with .2 profit on both of them, VDV stays, it's a great time to try and play the price market, expectations are low, just a bit of fun!

guys what u think of these changes for a 4pt hit

    Hahn to Krul
    Bale to N'zogbia
Arshavin to Cesc (the real reason for the moves)

not in a rush to do it...should be able to wait until just before GW7

N'Zogbia may have risen by .1 and Bale down by .1 or .2 by start of next gameweek, I would do that one now and take a risk on it as I am not sure if N'Zog is still involved with France (anyone?), so not at too much risk of injury. The others can wait and Fabregas may go down another .1 before next GW, good moves, and it has to be done to get Fab back in

Good question. With Everton winning today that should get them off and running. Both should excel but I'd go with VdV. Greater goal threat, generally plays further forward and you'll make some money on him if you get him in now.

    Foster, Hahnemann

Alex, Steinsson, Samba, Konchesky, Jose Enrique

    Nani, Gerrard, Malouda, Routledge, Bale

    Carroll, Drogba, Elmander

Do I need to wildcard that?

I wouldn't say so. The only players that need to go are Bale, Steinsson & Routledge, nothing major.

Cheers. Was thinking of Routledge to Albrighton this week, (was planning on it anyway, not just because he scored today), and then Bale to someone the week after, (Silva or Arteta most likely). Then Gerrard to Fabregas the following week.

I was going to keep Steinsson for another couple of weeks, his games aren't too bad but Bolton are terrible for cleanies!

Routledge is the only player in that team that I say needs weeding out, maybe Bale OUT VDV IN if his form continues, that is a well balanced team, no need for WC, Gerrard OUT Fabregas IN then too

Haha, then why am I doing rubbish?! 😉

No, cheers for the advice, I was thinking along those lines and should probably just hold the wildcard for now. I really don't like VDV's fixtures though, plus getting him in feels like more points chasing.

I was doing rubbish before despite having a 'good' team according to others on here. Honestly early on in the season I think it's luck, before my transfers in were logical, I was doing the same moves as lots on here but they still weren't working out. Since, I put in Nani & Torres last week & N'Zog this week, so my luck has changed and I'm doing alright now.

Yeah, it's early days and it still seems quite tough to see who the regular performers will be this season, as most players do well one week and then poor the next, (like anyone that got Berbatov in after his hattrick are probably fuming right now that he has followed it up with two 2's).

I plan to shoehorn in Bosingwa and Kolarov at some point down the line too. Alex and one other will drop out.

Anyone actually think except injuries they're going to keep Drogba & Malouda all season? Depends when you get them I suppose but having had them both from their first price rise it would be really expensive to get them back.

GW14 - GW19 is the time to lose at least one of them.

It does look like a bad run of games, but being that I've had both from the start it would be very difficult to get either back... Guess I'll see how I feel closer to the time..

Drogba to Rooney for GW14 - GW16, and then Rooney to Torres for GW17 - 21 gives you 8 great games in a row for them, and then you are on the verge of the January wildcard and can overhaul your side to get the Drogba back in.

I hate to make early changes, especially during an international break but I think long term this is a good idea.. Unless said players get injured obviously..
    A. Young> Nani
    Van Damme> Alcaraz
    4pt hit..
Or I chase points and bring vdv in...
Or finally do nothing and play both Barton and Caroll seeing as they have Wigan at home...
Would need to do Nani change before price rise tonight, thoughts people?!

As funds are so tight, I say that is one of the few 4 point hits, over International week, that is worth it

would I be right in thinking that Bales net transfers would have to be around minus 100000 (10% of ownership) for him to go down in price?

Not done a RMT for a while and as its fairly quiet.

    Robinson (Foster)

    Konchesky O'Shea Elmo (Foley Williamson)

    Malouda Dempsey Gerrard Nani (Etuhu)

    Drogba Tevez (c) Caroll

    -----------------------------------------

    Considering for transfers

Dempsey ---> Etherington and Gerrard ----> Fab and maybe even Caroll ----> Elmander

or changing formation and going 3-5-2 with

Etuhu ---> VDV and Gerrard ---> Arteta and putting Caroll on the bench.

    What do you think?

Hey guys, need advice on how to fit nani into my team. The players i dont want to let go of will be in CAPITALS. Cheers. I have already done Bale to Van der Vaart before his price goes up.

    FOSTER mignolet

    ELMO konchesky jones faye jara

    FABREGAS MALOUDA V.VAART albrighton etherington

    TEVEZ DROGBA carroll

Also, would downgrading players for Nani stuff up the balance?
