The short wait to find out the magic number needed to qualify for the third Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, is over. All thanks to my colleague SUPERIOR BEING for producing the results so quickly.

A fantastic turnout for the qualifying round saw 1,283 fantasy managers fighting it out for just 510 places. After hits, a score of 49 or above is good enough for the first round. For the 43 fantasy managers sitting on 48 points for the week, you will have to click here to see if you made the grade, as your qualification is dependant on overall rank…

With odds so slim, it’s no surprise to see so many big names drop out at this early stage. Amongst others, contributors SIR PAULOS (46), Big Dunc (42), Andy (43), SUPERIOR BEING (37), Da Beeeez (38) and Money Mike (38) all missed the cut, leaving just six contributors left in the Cup.

So onto the first round proper now, where Jonty and donnellyc join us. The fixtures for which will be published a few days before the next deadline (although I may not make you wait that long).

Thanks again to everyone who entered, congratulations to the qualifiers, and commiserations to those missing the cut.

Thoughts on Wild Card team so far?

    Foster Krul
    Damm Mummy Alcaraz Jara Salcido
    Nani Toure VDV Bale Fabregas
    Drogba Carroll Berbatov

    1.9 in bank.

I've taken Malouda out to bring Fabs back in.

i wouldn't recommend doubling up on spurs and not sure toure is worth having, they play too defensive at times and his not getting the bonus points.

Do you really need Bale and VDV? On points scored Bale has done nothing in past 5 weeks. I know he's still creating lots but Spurs forwards are currently doing nothing and they have a tricky run of games.

Possibly, but I think asides from Ashley Cole, Alex has been Chelsea's best defender. Would be harsh indeed for him to be dropped.

I also leave a lot of points on my bench (Jags this week), but playing Barton over Alex is a strange decision. Playing Jones is kind of strange, too, because Stoke have scored in every home game this season.

I played Cahill over Jagielka because he's (supposedly) a goal threat and if I bench him the week he gets a goal and 15 points I'll have to run out into traffic.

Hey all. Have been reconsidering my tactics recently and I am thinking of lifting my self imposed £5m cap on defenders. It seems City and Chelsea are only clean sheet merchants around at the moment and I think I want in. Sadly my knowledge of the options here is about as quality as a garth crooks interview.

Cole & terry: not for me. whilst undoubtedly good options, I still prefer to spend bigger money further upfield. Call it my attacking instincts.

Alex and toure: both seem good options at 6.3. but think I’ve read posts talking about alex’s rotation threat? Lovely goal on Sunday though. But still my penny pinching nature makes me think there is better value (cheaper) to be had…

Bosingwa: £5.6m. now we’re talking. Any thoughts on if he’ll start once fit? If so, surely he is a cracking option?

Boateng & kolorav: I think city defence is the way forward. City sure to have a pretty good season, but seem set up to be hard to breakdown rather than scoring hatfuls of goals. If one of these two will be a regular starter, I reckon I may have found my man.

Will probably wait a couple of game weeks to watch starting line ups before making my move, but would be very interested to read anyone else’s thoughts on cheap ways into the chelsea or city clean sheets.

See, I thought that, but... Drogba's corners have actually been pretty damn good, I think.

Chelsea have got enough "heads" in the box anyway I think (Ivan, Alex, Terry, Essien - anyone else?) to make him missing much of a muchness, but gain a better kicker.

Does seem like he just wants to hog everything now though.

you might want to think about how you going to fit fabs in.

Not sure spending a huge amount on the defence is a good thing and probably better off getting a spurs defender when there fixtures ease up instead of gomes.

Want to get VDV in and need to get rid of Konch to give me some cash to do so. Cant decide which long term move to make!

1.Arteta and Konchesky > Van der Vaart and Oshea
    or
2.Petrov and Konchesky > Van der Vaart and Elmohamady
    or
3.Petrov and Konchesky > Vand der Vaart and Albrighton (doing Teleg so can swap a def for a mid)

If your points total is poor
And your rivals make you sore
Bonus judges make you swear and curse

    When you're chewing over transfers
And you don't like the Andy's answers
Just remember that the luck will even out

    And...

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life
    If FPL seems rotten
    There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing

    When your captain's substituted
    And BPs misattributed
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing
    And...

Always look on the bright side of life... Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.
    Come on!
Always look on the bright side of life... Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.

    The game is quite absurd
    1 point's the final word
You must always face red arrows with a bow
    Forget about Boselli
    Give Berbatov the welly
And enjoy winning your H2H, somehow

So always look on the bright side of pain. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.
Just before your team value drops again. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.

    FPL's for fools
    Just follow simple rules:
Captain Drogba, when you ask for input: heed,
    Don't take needless hits
Save your wildcard for a bit
Just remember that Ekotto will concede

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.

When you lose out on a purchase
Because your budget can't get Shawcross
And it's time to ditch the transfer masterplan
With a hattrick in your dugout
There's no need to cry your eyes out
Just remember that you'll finish above Fran

Always look on the bright side of life. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.

Probably option 1 is better, although you may want to wait a week or two for Fabs. Wenger may ease him back in gently for the first few games back.

Elmander is now popping up on my radar too and I'm having serious thoughts about going with a front 3 of him Drogs and Odemwingie next GW instead of getting in Tevez or Berbatov.

Bent is another one, especially as he's on pens for Sunderland.
Whoever get in I want it to be one I keep for the long term, which makes me more inclined to go for Bent, Tevez or Berba.

Is it just me that thinks that its very odd that De Jong has been dropped by his national team due to his tackle on Ben Arfa and all round physicality recently, but that the English FA have done nothing, even though they could have?!
Im not sure if its due to being a Man City player (ESPN were so tame and loving towards them it was cringe worthy yesterday!) or just a freak of the media-like the fact the press love happy 'Arry the crook- but this guy appears to have no rep..despite the WC final and episodes like yesterday...

I was questioning my view of footy when Butt and Keegan said it was fine on half time show..I just couldnt see it, even before relaised it was a leg breaker.
De Jong just doesnt get the press/rep/cards he dserves...

Fully agree. Dutch manager is bang on the money, De Mong needs punishment as this is at least the third or fourth major injury he has caused.
Should be banned for at least 5 matches pour encourager les autres.
Already this season we have seen some horrendous tackles, everyone likes a physical game but going out to injure a fellow professional should be severely punished. The FA should grow some balls.

Seriously though it gets on my tits how some people just get away with it, its his job and he's getting MORE nasty. Essien was horrid when he first came but has calmed down and is generally, Id say, just strong now, this guy is the opposite and nothing is said
