The short wait to find out the magic number needed to qualify for the third Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, is over. All thanks to my colleague SUPERIOR BEING for producing the results so quickly.

A fantastic turnout for the qualifying round saw 1,283 fantasy managers fighting it out for just 510 places. After hits, a score of 49 or above is good enough for the first round. For the 43 fantasy managers sitting on 48 points for the week, you will have to click here to see if you made the grade, as your qualification is dependant on overall rank…

With odds so slim, it’s no surprise to see so many big names drop out at this early stage. Amongst others, contributors SIR PAULOS (46), Big Dunc (42), Andy (43), SUPERIOR BEING (37), Da Beeeez (38) and Money Mike (38) all missed the cut, leaving just six contributors left in the Cup.

So onto the first round proper now, where Jonty and donnellyc join us. The fixtures for which will be published a few days before the next deadline (although I may not make you wait that long).

Thanks again to everyone who entered, congratulations to the qualifiers, and commiserations to those missing the cut.

    I think ive found the soloution to doing reasonably well at this fantasy lark. Never come back from the pub pissed and start making transfers! Ive sworn not to take any hits this season and so far ive only done it once, lol, although i nearly did it saturday night after coming back from the pub pissed!

      Nonsense! The whole point of fantasy football is the inspired drunken tinkering on a Friday night! or coming back home at 4 on a Saturday night, see that you're doing crap then attempting to somehow rectify it there and then by making 7 transfers 🙂

        With a word of warning-I accidently used my wildcard 2 years ago for 1 transfer! I think the FPL have since moved the button a bit further away from the normal transfer one! Still won my mini league!

              The ticker is dynamically generated using javascript, it's possible that greasemonkey is interfering. Seems unlikely though. Wierd.

      If you're using mozilla on a widescreen monitor and have zoomed the page it will be out of alignment. Hit Ctrl-(minus) a few times and it should all line up. Had the same problem and that solved it for me

      No, you have one free transfer and all the others cost you 4 pt hits, just like any other week. Its just called a wildcard for the hell of it.

      Dearie me, some people ask some damn stupid questions. Its not like you can't actually read what the wildcard does on the FPL page, is it! They spell it out quite clearly on the rules page.

    Would be very nice if RVP was back fit after the intl break. Torres to RVP would leave plenty of cash to upgrade Arshavin to Fabs and a defender (prob Konchesky) to a Chelsea or City defender. I smell goals in them there Arse fixtures.

    Have 3 Chelsea players
    ACole,Malouda and Drogs.
    Thinking it might be time to drop one so I can upgrade my options on defense.

    Dropping Bale for Faber once healthy so I have 5.1 in the bank.

    Thinking Malouda to VDV is the trade.
    Doubt I'm the only one with these 3 Chelskis.
    Anybody else thinking too much Chelsea or diminishing returns?

          wont think of Arteta although he is getting bonus, Fab for Bale is no question at all. VDV for Malouda is however interesting, so tempting one considering VDV's form and aggressiveness to test goalkeepers from all positions.

        I hate it when real life intervenes with a TV show, a bit like the writers strike that happened towards the end of 2007. Lost and Prison Break never really recovered and were shite after.

        Haven't seen it but I'll check that out too. My brother mentioned The Unit, might watch that too. Certainly helps deal with the FPL lull due to the internationals!

        I think once FPL returns for GW8, we have at least one Premiership fixture schedule every week until early January so that will be nice.

    Looking at how to get Fab back into my team and am thinking of dropping Tevez. How does Drogba, Carrol and Odemwingie up front sound? Play Drogba every week and the other 2 rotate pretty well together.
    Anyone else going with a front 3 similar to this?

      Yep, I've got Drogba, Carroll and Elmander and the plan is to play two out of Elmander, Carroll and Albrighton each week. It frees up more cash for my midfield but not sure how my team will function when RVP gets back, I may just have to leave him even though he's a bargain when fit. Fortunately that is quite rare for him!

          I think Tevez is quite expensive when Man City play too cautiously. Just one goal a game max. from him, (except Liverpool where he didn't really touch the ball but was given the goal).

            er 1 goal a game is 38 goals a season. that will do nicely. they will beat teams by 3 and 4 at some point. Mancini just needs to realise that Barry and Yaya and De Jong is the most negative defensive midfield ever assembled.

      think a lot of people are considering this as apart from tevez their aren't really a lot of top quality in form strikers to partner drogs. tevez has great fixtures but man city aren't looking like scoring too many goals at the moment and they also have a lot of striking options on the bench- could easily get rested/rotated for the odd game even though he is captain. definitely not a bad shout to drop him.

      Haha! I think that points hits aren't working at the moment with the unpredictable gameweeks and players blowing hot and cold.

      I took an 8 point hit two weeks ago and I gained 2 points when it all shook out, but I was a bit lucky and most of my mini-league rivals keep doing 3 transfers a week in their desperation to catch me and it just puts them further behind. One guy is on 13 transfers and he's used his wildcard...

          You're basically chucking away a clean sheet or a goal, every time you make an extra transfer - very tough to get them to pay off. I think they are worth doing if you plan to keep the players for a while.

    will fabregas play against birmingham?because my keepers are foster and harper.
    I have been trying to get harper out but I havnt been able to afford the point hits.
    I also had intended upgrading bale to fabregas,but I need an extra 0.6m

      Keeping an player who's out for months is beyond stupid, any transfer you make comes at a cost of another, different free transfer, whether it's a hit or not. By keeping Harper you're just limiting your squad choices and losing value, all to hold off on transfer you're eventually gonna have to do

        Great post that makes a lot of sense. Even your 'free' transfers can be used up or wasted, just because you are not costing yourself points, it is the opportunity cost that matters. Sometimes you've just got to take the injury on the chin and take the hit unless the injury only puts the player out of one or two games.

      i was just thinking this, but i was also thinking i can do without fabregas for two weeks. City away wont be easy, and he mightnt even play much against birmingham- and even if he does, they'll be set up tighter than a Scottish Nun.

      Im looking at playing my wildcard too, problem is, with arteta nani malouda and bale, ill be losing alot of value, only riser i can get is vdv for johnson, or elmander for odemwingie. Just seems like an awful waste to wilcard at all...

        hope not. I did mine the week before.. had to before my team of Cole, Evans et al left me with no money for the rest of the season. Going to be a strange first round - often some strange results first week back after an international. Who knows, maybe Liverpool will win.

        that is very harsh on Chamakh.

        Bendtner is a championship player at best and deluded with it.

        Chamakh has great potential and has only just joined Arsenal and is being expected to score a load of goals beacuse Arshavin cant be bothered, RVP is brittle, Fab is also injured and head may have been turned.

          I hope he does well, he seems like an ok guy, something that could never be levelled at Bendtner, but it can't have escaped your attention that his alleged strong point is his heading but he can't even hit the target with relatively simple headers.

    Feel sorry for all the players who have got injured lately The likes of ben 10 arfa daly (hurt in a needless challenge. Zamora (Broken leg by Karl Henry who did a reckless challenge on a Wigan player and made Barton's day hell.)A Ramsey and A Guedioura. The sad thing is that when the injury happens is when the players are on realy good form. I hope no one else has to go through the injuries as the lads mentioned not just this season, any season! Hope they have a speedy recovery
