The short wait to find out the magic number needed to qualify for the third Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, is over. All thanks to my colleague SUPERIOR BEING for producing the results so quickly.

A fantastic turnout for the qualifying round saw 1,283 fantasy managers fighting it out for just 510 places. After hits, a score of 49 or above is good enough for the first round. For the 43 fantasy managers sitting on 48 points for the week, you will have to click here to see if you made the grade, as your qualification is dependant on overall rank…

With odds so slim, it’s no surprise to see so many big names drop out at this early stage. Amongst others, contributors SIR PAULOS (46), Big Dunc (42), Andy (43), SUPERIOR BEING (37), Da Beeeez (38) and Money Mike (38) all missed the cut, leaving just six contributors left in the Cup.

So onto the first round proper now, where Jonty and donnellyc join us. The fixtures for which will be published a few days before the next deadline (although I may not make you wait that long).

Thanks again to everyone who entered, congratulations to the qualifiers, and commiserations to those missing the cut.

i think im holding on to bale he is still great at providing and i read an article where harry said its difficult to pick the team with two strikers because he wants bale lm and vdv not at rm but behind the striker, bottom line is he is cheaper and seems to be still worth it

i was initially thinking about dropping gerrard for fabregas..but now considering bringing in nani instead and making him captain at home to west brom..not too sure if fab will play at home to birmingham and if he does has a tendancy to come off at half time if arsenal are winning well and hes carrying a slight injury...so will prob go with nani..although i do have drogba to consider for captain...any comments?

Recently the logic of captaining a key player on a "strong" team because they are playing a "weak team" has backfired (e.g., WBA against Arsenal, BPL against Liverpool, etc.). At the start of the season, there was general agreement that these teams were weak. But their actual play showed that they are much better then predicted.

Who would have thunk that after GW 7 that the league's most pathetic team would be...................Liverpool.

yes and yes. Roy Keane has a Brother called Johnson. I always viewed him as a bit of a ruprecht from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (wonderful film), and i had watched one flew over the cuckeoos nest the night before for the umpteenth time in my life. Everything just dovetailed really (sniffle...). ANd now some halfwith in Africa is worshipping me. Onwards and upwards!!! 🙂

Bit of exercise wouldn't hurt ya know?! My side is

      Foster / Hahnemann
Elmo / Dann / Samba / Knight / Van Damme
      VdV / Fabregas / Malouda / Nani / Routledge
      Drogba / Berbatov / Carroll

Both Van Damme and Routledge are on the To Be Binned list. Having a midfield like that necessarily means that you have to risk a shonky defence, if you can live with that gamble it may pay off.

I quite like Knight. Van Damme and Routledge are in the bin list - probably (though much to early to say) I will get in Simpson at 3.9 giving me around 5.2 for a new mid. Should find something at that price.

totally agree, vidic and cashley etc arent worth it they only get a few points than some of the bargain defenders, but top mid and str get a lot more. was thinking to get rid of alex and have

            mignolet/jaask
            gohouri/dann/mummy/foley/williamson
            fab/arteta/vdv/nani/malouda
            drogs/berbs/varney

but alexs goal has worried me as he is good value and could get 20+ cleanos

            Pienaar usually plays left-mid.

Osman played there on Saturday and impressed getting MOM in the local paper.

Osman switching back to right-mid when Pienaar is back at left-mid with Coleman dropping to the bench would be the main worry for Coleman owners.

No chance of Coleman playinf right-back because a) club captain Neville is back and b) he can't defend.

Does anyone know why Bruce won't start Bent and Gyan in games. Gyan has invariably come on as a sub in the last 10 minutes yet his form is superb and he always makes a difference? I'd love to bring him into my team but he won't get a game! What a waste!

Its a good question. I believe it must be a fitness issue as I can't see Sunderland spending 13m on a player of that quality to leave em polishing the pine. However it seems like the old 4-4-2 is at the brink of extinction this season, so it would be interesting to see how he accommodates both Gyan and Bent. From what I've noticed when both are on the pitch it appears that Bent is pushed to more of a wing forward role.

Good point on position Attila but in the early part of the season the balance worked well..(and no Zod...Gyan is not a "bit crap" - if you watched the World Cup you could see that). 4-4-2 can easily flow into 4-3-2-1 with the right movement so I don't believ that's the answer.

In my opinion, Gyan is far superior to Bent technically. But Bent is the "in form man" at the moment, he is getting goals and keeping Gyan out of the side. But if an injury or dry spell comes up, I can see Gyan having a great run of games. Which is why he's on my bench, as I anticipate a huge rise in price and a high points return from the man.

portugal play denmark 8th and iceland 12th. they are under pressure and want to play full strength squad. this includes nani.

holland play moldova away and sweden at home. van der vaart hit out at his coach the last time and said he was not happy being deployed a dedicated winger. he has been taken out for the squad however, and have arguably shown the best form of late among the dutch midfielders.

I just see him as a competent winger, doesn't get my juices flowing. Stir in the fact he plays for Stoke and it makes him a very hard sell for me.

But I have tonnes of convoluted rules as to how I play this game, each with their own crazy exception as well.

He is a perfectly fine fantasy investment.

but for some cracking saves lagt weekend, he could have had a hattrick, he playing right off jones, hes very cheap, and a pretty good option as hes on all set pieces. cant arguie with all the assists hes had, and hes a massive goal threat too., I think anyone unbiased would find it hard to argue against getting him in.

Got 5.1 ready for fab in Bale out but I'm thinking its time to unload one of my 3 Chelsea players.
    Got ACole, Malouda, and Drogs.
With Chelsea getting healthy at all positions rotation possibilities mount

Could replace with VDV and upgrade defense.

I must say, this 'transfer out Malouda terend,' is one of the most intriguing so far. Not happening for me for a long while. If I really want VDV all that bad, Nani is the only one of the 'big 5' worth switching out, if for no other reason, the price.

I'm not even saying pitching Malouda is necessarily foolish, I am just surprised everyone is going for it right now.

mignolet will probably be replaced by gordon, and sorenson is a tad overpriced imho

When? Only you can decide that. In theory its best when he's returned from international duty. Problem is his price may well continue to rise. He's price is due to go up tonight.

already went up from 7.5 to 7.7, will probably go up again some point before next gw. i don't see him playing a full 90 for holland though- not against such a weak side.

It could be VDV end up playing 90 min. if they rest Sneijder for the easy game. They could also play VDV deeper next to Van Bommel since De Jong is not in the squad.

Btw: Gonzalo Jara will not be going to the middle east with the Chilean national side, as he has been omitted from the squad.

    newman, andy, i wrote this earleir on malouda;

here’s the issue i think alot of people need to think about-

Malouda is away at villa next week. Fabs has Brum at home. Malouda may well be rested for the wolves game according to alot of people.

THerefor, the smart move is DEFINTELY get fabs in and Malouda out.

Assuming Fabs is fit ladies and gents, you gotta ask yourself one thing- will Malouda get that rest v wolves becasue of europe and ancellotti’s previous?

WIth everyone having malouda, i think this is the key to making a very big gain the next two weeks. Not only would getting fabs in for malouda mean you dont have 10million wasted gameweek 9, youalso wont have to waste a transfer getting fabs in gameweek 11 for their FABulous fixtures.

Who’s with me in that i havent a fuking clue what to think??

it sounds both a recipe for disaster and recipe for success.

its a risk vs reward assessment, but you have a point. because of all the good midfielders i also think that malouda is the one to drop from the unholy chelsea trinity of acole/alex-malouda-drog.

Its all excellent stuff. Unfortunately, I can;'t do without asking a 4 point hit, which I cannot justify with me actually qualifying for cup. And there's no point in bringing him in for city. Which means I may as well wait for week 10.

And If I'm waiting that long, I may as well wait to see whether Malouda is worth keeping over VDV, which is the essential question that is being asked here.

Either way, I think I need to get VDV this week.

Its a good point. If anything about VDV is in question, its away form. (Even that is probably fine)

It's either him or stick with Milner for the this week and save a transfer to get Fabs in for free for GW 10. I kinda agree with RBJ: If I could get Fabs now, it may be a good idea. But I can't, and don't see the poiint in having him GW 9 (yes, to the point where its worth Malouda getting benched)

Looks like no transfer this week barring international injury.

If we know for sure (that Malouda wont be playing), then perhaps that'd be a reasonable transfer to make.

I suspect many in here have kept the £ aside for just such transfer.
