The short wait to find out the magic number needed to qualify for the third Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, is over. All thanks to my colleague SUPERIOR BEING for producing the results so quickly.

A fantastic turnout for the qualifying round saw 1,283 fantasy managers fighting it out for just 510 places. After hits, a score of 49 or above is good enough for the first round. For the 43 fantasy managers sitting on 48 points for the week, you will have to click here to see if you made the grade, as your qualification is dependant on overall rank…

With odds so slim, it’s no surprise to see so many big names drop out at this early stage. Amongst others, contributors SIR PAULOS (46), Big Dunc (42), Andy (43), SUPERIOR BEING (37), Da Beeeez (38) and Money Mike (38) all missed the cut, leaving just six contributors left in the Cup.

So onto the first round proper now, where Jonty and donnellyc join us. The fixtures for which will be published a few days before the next deadline (although I may not make you wait that long).

Thanks again to everyone who entered, congratulations to the qualifiers, and commiserations to those missing the cut.

GET IN just made the cut with 48. Do you think it's worth taking a 4pt hit to get Fabs in this week? Or avoid the hit and get him later on?

    Thinking A Cole > Salcido, A Johnson > Fabs

This is really spooky, I was searching google images today (carry on films) 😉 and I came across a pic of him and thought, 'when did he die'? and then saw about an hour ago saw he croaked today!! The pic was not at all related to his death. Spooky.

Well I swallowed hard and decided to wildcard...so any comments or help on this team I'm looking at would be much appreciated:

    Foster/Krul
    Alex/O'Shea (Coleman/Jara/Gohouri)
    Fabregas/Malouda/Nani/VDVaart (Barton)
    Drogba/Bent (Varney)

If I'm very lucky with my money-making activities I might be able to get El-Mummy instead of Coleman...but my big decision is whether or not to go for a cheaper striker than Bent and spend the money on a defender or Varney???

you and i are normally in total agreement on chasing price rises attila, but im very undecided on this one. VDV was awesome against villa, and the fulham game is a derby- he'll be the xfactor, and theyll be well up for utd aswell, and with their leaky defence, im finding it incredibly difficult to not get him in tonight as i feel i will anyway.

I think its pretty much almost certain malouda will be rested v wolves though, so it means a four point hit or wildcard and complete team change if i decide fabs in for gameweek 9.

things are very complicated now...ALTHOUGH, i think theyre only coplicated becasue of that .1 price rise. Fuk it, ill wait, he might not even go up .2

Oh what I'm saying RBJ is that I got rid of Bale to get VdV in - I just wouldnt have the two of them in my side. It's not really about chasing the price rises etc with me, I had to get him and Nani sharpish as I couldnt afford them on the sunday as both of their prices rose while Milner and Bales dropped. When it comes between the two of them, I still think Bale is a useful player - the major motivation for me though is that Bale appears to rely on the Spurs strikers for points, and that isn't working at the moment - whereas VdV is a GREEDY barsteward who shoots on site. Plus he now has monopolised the set pieces.
I'm pretty happy with my mid now - the only other mid I'd be mad to get in is Arteta.

Ha lots of similar faces there Dribbler. 🙂
(Malouda/Fabregas/Nani/VdV as well as Foster and Drogba)

Any chance you could look at the soon to be back Simpson from Newcastle to save a few quid in defence (3.9), personally my attack is Berbatov, Drogba, Carroll but I dont have the quality defenders of Alex and to a lesser degree O'Shea.

yeah I thought long and hard about keeping Berbatov (Man Utd have great fixtures)...in fact I still have him just now but I just feel the Alex/O'Shea combo is too tasty to ignore...but Bent got 195 points last season and is still scoring at the same rate so far this season

Yep it is a logical move. I'm going with the gamble that defence is worth marginalising as midfield and attack will be where the points are. If it turns out to be the opposite then I may do something similar, though I'd really want Kolarov from Man City

Well I'd get Boateng in until he is (I think there is at most 0.1 between them). Boateng had a tough time against Enrique and Gutierrez but then I think most players wouldnt enjoy that battle. He'll do a job, Kolarov certainly the better pick though

Danny Simpson plays tonight in the reserves n is definitely one to watch out for, he got something like 1 goal and 3 assists last year and will probably better that when he displaces the useless perch B-)

Maloudas sell value for my team shows as 9.9mil. Does that mean that when he rises in value to 10.4mil. either tomorrow or one of the following days (at 87% with 1500 transfers in today) can I asume that his sell value would increase to 10mil. on my team?

I ask this because I may want to bring in VdV but will want to wait as long as possible. If Malouda increases in value it doesnt matter if I miss the price rise of VdV tonight.

you need to subtract the price you paid for him from his current price (£10.3m) to find the profit you've made...then take half the profit (rounding down if it's an odd amount) and add it to the price you paid to find your selling price

if you click transfers on the left and then dataview all the figures are there (although the screen is badly designed)

I went with Nasri btw. Quite underrated player on here, and with Fabregas' return not necessarily guaranteed, Nasri has been Arsenal's best player and has quite a few BPs to his name.

Obvious 5 defenders: A.Cole, O'Shea/Vidic, Toure, Dunne, Jagielka

Over the course of the season i'm sure they'd work out...Dawson would be in there but spurs have too many fixtures now and a new 'gung ho' attitude.

RBJ's defence is far more sensible price-wise in any game...Seamus Coleman could become essential yet given his low 4.4mil price tag

Yeah, it was a pleasant surprise when I discovered Bale was a still classed a defender.

I think what I'm going to go for is..

Bale, Baines, Vidic, Salcido and Mummy.

Can't afford Cole at this stage, though i do want him badly.

Thanks for your input guys -

So team will hopefully eventually look like this...

    Foster, Al-Habsi
    Bale, Baines, Vidic, Mummy, Salcido
    Malouda, Petrov, Etherington, Arteta, Fabregas
    Drogba, Tevez, Torres

        Well, different rules apply man.
For example, player costs change on their performance, rather than whether or not they are popular. For example, Odemwingie is 8mil, Bent is 9.7mil, Torres is 8.4 and Tevez is 11.2mil at the moment.

So I've made a lot of money on buying and selling guys to make the most out of their price jumps.

In week 1, you have a budget of 100mil. I've made 22mil on top of that over these weeks, which is why I have been/will be able to bring these players in.

But yes - in terms of official FPL game, it would be farcical.

If i had a FPL team like the rest of you guys, I would be.

And I'm not doing that well - am currently ranked 199 out of 15000. Extrapolate that out to the 2 million people playing FPl, and I'm coming... 26000th.

      Possibly.

I had 3, with Cashley instead of Alex, which I felt was a bit too much.

That said, Chelsea look as if they are going to walk the league this year, so I may double up on their defence with Bosingwa, when he's back (As well as bringing Drog back)

          Not bad.

Get Krul instead of Robinson. You don't want to double up on a defense.

I'd get at least one of Nani and Van Der Vaart too. Etherington, Adam and Petrov while good, won't be able to rake in points like one of the two players I mentioned. Not sure where you'll get your money if you insist on having O'Shea and Alex, but personally, I wouldn't get O'Shea. ManU defense isn't settled, and he might not even play with Rafael in the team and Rio back.

I'd say upgrade Petrov to Nani and you'd be looking at a pretty decent team.

Unfortunately, I already used the wild card since I missed a few weeks of games and now I regret it. However, do you think the below team needs any drastic changes immediately?

    Robinson (Carson)
    Sagna/Toure/Huth (Williamson/Bramble)
    Malouda/Nani/Etherington/Bale/Scholes
    Drogba/Berbatov (Carroll)

Personally, I have had Bale a while now and I think it's not done a great deal. After seeing VDV play like that at the weekend, just kind of annoys me now.

Sagna could be brought out I suppose, doesn't seem to get as much of the play as perhaps I'd thought. Switch for Samba?

Also, Ferguson keeps messing around with Utd's front line so much I'm beginning to doubt keeping Berbatov and do a re-jig to include Tevez.

    Thoughts?

I thought the same, but seeing as how VdV basically controls Spurs nowadays, it's just a matter of time before he starts turning in the points away from home.

In almost every team, there's one or two key players, usually a number 10, you can identify that will score most of your offensive fantasy points for a team, and I try to get as many of them in, especially if they play for a big team. Set piece and penalty takers are usually key.

          My list:

          Arsenal - Fabregas/Van Persie
          Aston Villa - Ashley Young
          Birmingham - No fantasy gold
          Blackburn - Dunn (if fit!)
          Blackpool - Adam
          Bolton - Petrov
          Chelsea - Lampard/Drogba
          Everton - Arteta
          Fulham - No fantasy gold
          Liverpool - Gerrard/Torres
          Man City - Tevez
          Man United - Rooney/Nani
          Newcastle - Nolan
          Stoke - Etherington
          Sunderland - Bent
          Tottenham - Van Der Vaart
          West Brom - Odemwingie
          West Ham - Parker

I am currently wildcarding, and my final team will be very similar to that. I really want to find a way to keep Malouda though. Started season with Essien and scored very little. sold him just before his brace and Malouda 7 minutes. I may be prepared to downgrade front line slightly to have a 'stellar' midfield.

Just thought I'd share a little song I wrote with you my friends:

If your points total is poor
And your rivals make you sore
Bonus judges make you swear and curse

    When you’re chewing over transfers
And you don’t like Andy’s answers
Just remember that the luck will even out

    And…

Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life

    If FPL seems rotten
    There’s something you’ve forgotten
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing

    When your captain’s substituted
    And BPs misattributed
Just purse your lips and whistle – that’s the thing
    And…

Always look on the bright side of life… Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.
    Come on!
Always look on the bright side of life… Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.

    The game is quite absurd
    1 point’s the final word
You must always face red arrows with a bow
    Forget about Boselli
    Give Berbatov the welly
And enjoy winning your H2H, somehow

So always look on the bright side of pain. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.
Just before your team value drops again. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.

    FPL’s for fools
    Just follow simple rules:
Captain Drogba, when you ask for input: heed,
    Don’t take needless hits
Save your wildcard for a bit
Just remember that Ekotto will concede

And always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.

When you lose out on a purchase
Because your budget can’t get Shawcross
And it’s time to ditch the transfer masterplan
With a hattrick in your dugout
There’s no need to cry your eyes out
Just remember that you’ll finish above Fran

Always look on the bright side of life. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.
Always look on the bright side of life. Dee doo deedoo-deedoo-deedoo.

So true. I remember once dreaming that one of my rivals players got an extra 50 points for playing on his wedding day!

Response in regards to the S.Davies assist request:

We don't think an assist should be awarded to Davies for the Dempsey
goal. We believe there is a deflection from the West Ham defender, there is no way we can say he isn't looking for Dempsey but we feel his shot/pass was going the other way before hitting the West Ham player.
