That’s 40 down, just 255 to go before we beat that “Last of the Summer Wine” episode target. We’re only 7 behind on jokes though – the 213 mentions of wrinkled stockings only count once.

Fresh from the international break, Mark and I leave Andy and Akers behind to sneak back into the studio, only to find that someone has pilfered out podcasting furniture. Improvising with some handy white goods, the show goes on to bring you the usual array of regulars that inludes another “Miffed” from my good self, a bandwagon round-up in “All Aboard” and of course the “Weekend Preview” in which we desperately try to snuggle up to Mark Lawrenson high up on the pundit prediction fence.

Help yourself to this aural treat via this link and explore the other 39 episodes right here.

Alternatively you can stream the goodness direct using the player below.

Editors NoteThis podcast mentions both Man City’s Kolarov and Arsenal’s Fabregas before we got today’s news. Sadly we failed to find our crystal ball and our time machine was on the blink.

I've been thinking a bit about fantasy tactics recently and coming to the conclusion that the most important factor by a reasonable distance is captain choice. More so than transfers and team selection. Following on from this, what are people's strategies for captain selection? I would be interested to hear if anyone does any statistical analysis each week or how they decide on captain choice... gut feeling, form, combination etc.

An associated point is ... given the importance of captaincy why doesnt the game make you select which player you want as 1st, 2nd 3rd choice captain etc each week. Form/value is lame.

I go with consistency/form as well as value combination and fixtures. I guess my decision is based on tying everything together. If I'm tight w/someone in my mini-league then sometimes I'll choose someone he doesn't have as a way to separate the gap- obviously this can sometimes backfire, making the decision that much more important.

choosing the player that you think will get the most points the whole season week in week out, is one way of deciding

I don't think captain choice is that important. Take this as an example:

      Drogba scores 10
      Fabregas scores 5

You get 5 more points if you captained Drogba, and 5 less if you captained Fabregas instead. That's not that significant. Obviously, it adds up, but having a good squad is most important. There are still 10 other players scoring points.

    Evening.
Think I'm going to send Bale back to the Gorillaz before his price drop and bring in a short term cheapy so I can upgrade elsewhere. Any thoughts on who will score more over the next few weeks Parker or Nolan? Kind fixtures for both methinks.

Cheers. Couldn't bring myself to do it though. He should stand out to the BP judges being surrounded by the crap he's playing with but I just can't convince myself he's really going to pick up big points.

      😀

To be fair to me, and plenty of others, it seemed fairly certain that he was going to play, and you never know, he still may...

He said on his personal twitter account about 8 days ago that he was fully fit, and that if the Chelsea game had come two days later, then he could have played. Seems like the obvious conclusion was that he would be fit for the Birmingham game but something has obviously changed since then.

Oh, and a fully fit Fabregas is a must. 😉

Atilla got my ps fixed but now my wireless connection is buggered. Really want to get involved in the FIFA comp. Playing ps games are so sh1t when you've played online. Ever tried playing FIFA or cod normally? like playing Scottish fantasy football - just not the same at all, and highly depressing!

No probs Marr, I think from experience so far the best way to go with the online comps is to have small minileagues that can be done over one or two nights - the first league we did with 10 had a few players who were inactive so we couldnt finish it.
Yeah the Jamsie P hunts are always a bit of a laugh, some sense of humour short circuits out there. This site loooooves a good witch hunt too 🙂

Really want Fabs in for GW 10 and I am wondering whats the best way to do it.

      Robinson, Carson
      Elmo, Alex, O'Shea, Faye, Dann
      Malouda, Nani, VDV, Albrighton, Ferguson
      Berbatov, Tevez, Drogba

As i see it, the best options are..
      1. Alex & Malouda > 5m def & Fabregas
      2. Nani & Tevez > Fabregas & Elmander/Carrol
      3. Malouda & Berbatov > Fabregas & Elmander/Carrol

Amm think I am sticking with dropping Bale, Berbs and Eths for Adam, Odemw and Cesc. Really don't wanna lose Malouda as he is always likely to score big...@home at least. Maybe later I will drop him for VdV and use the extra funds to upgrade defence.

      Get Krul for Hahnemann.

Downgrade Jagielka to a 4.0 defender. You'll need the funds for a better midfield.

      With the funds, upgrade Petrov.

      lose :
      odem injured
      jags injured
      petrov
      hahnemann (wolves!)

options for cheap strikers coz odem injured:
      obinna
      dembele
      varney

options for mids coz you can do better than petrov for cheaper:
      Adam
Barton (great fixtures and looking good)
      zog

      options for defenders (cheapish) :
      coleman
      dann
      williamson

well lads just wondering is it worth it to downgrade alex to oshea in order to get nani in for bale and to have money for fabs later? 4 point hit. or should i just get nani for gerrard and leave making money for fabs till next week? What ye think?

Nani for Gerrard. Looking at it on paper, the first option probably makes your team look stronger, but I think you'll get more points in the long run with a straight swap.

Already have 3 Newcastle players and figured Williamson is a better option..

foster krul have dream rotation for next few weeks i think

I have to bench either barton or carroll this week which bothers me A LOT coz of my stacked mid and strikeforce:

                nani malouda vdv arteta barton
                drog carroll berba

Why would you back Konchesky? Liverpool are shit, and are playing Everton, who look to have just turned a corner.

N'Zogbia's a real bonus whore, and Wigan's best player. If they get anything from that game, he'll get some points.

I'd go for N'Zogbia on the basis that he's a more attack-minded player. Barton can get his fair share of points, but could just as easily pick up a card or two.

Remember, you're not backing Wigan to win at the Sportsdirect.com stadium (haha), just for N'Zogbia to produce something and/or have a decent enough game to get some bonus.

Barton, Wiggs! He is playing at home against.. Wi..wait for it..gan!! Newcastle should win the 2-0, 3-0 easilt and Barton will no doubt be involved in the Bonus points and Perhaps assists, I really Cant see N'Zogbia beating him this week.

    Hi

Already took 4-point hit this GW, but see 3 injuries in my defence going into the weekend..

Sagna (inj) / Alex (inj) / Baptiste (inj) / Toure / Alcaraz

Considering for another hit but not sure if it worth.

    (1) Keep the team as is and go to GW with one of zero point DF ?

    (2) Take another 4-point to get a fit DF in ?

    (3) If yes for (2), who's the best?

    - O'Shea : good fixture.. but, will he also get a rest ?
    - Elmo : clean sheet potential = low? with bla, AVL, new, STK
    - Samba : 3 home games coming but SUN, liv, CHE, WIG
    - J Enrique : bet on New DF for WIG, whm, SUN, ars
    - Knight : bet on good fixtures of STK, wig, LIV, TOT

    Your thoughts would be appreciate.
    Thanks

Tough one. I think it depends on if you feel you need to make other changes to your team in gameweek 9. If your team is fine apart from your defenders, then take another 4 point hit, but be strict and don't make any transfers in gameweek 9. If you do take the gamble and bring in a defender, make it an attacking one like Elmo. That's who I went for anyway. The way I see if, it's worth taking the hit if it's a defender playing in a much more attacking position. Good luck anyway.

Took my first hit of the season, but happy with my team.
    Krul
    Hughes Shawcross Elmohamady
    Gerrard Malouda Nani (c) Davies
    Drogba Tevez Carroll
    Subs: Foster Barton Konchesky Jara
    0.8 in the bank

Decided Davies over Barton, because I didn't want Newcastle overkill. Then the captain choice is tough, but when in doubt go with the poll I suppose.
    Any thoughts?
