The calm before the storm of no early kick-offs has gone and now all that’s finally left for us to do is get ensconced in another gameweek bound to throw up some interesting affairs in Gameweek 8.

We’ll be closing out today’s action when Chelsea pay visit to Aston Villa, but there’ll likely to be little surprise there thanks to Carlo’s usual burst of information in revealing his starting XI (Cech; Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Mikel, Ramires, Essien; Malouda, Anelka, Kakuta) so now it’s time to sit back and take in the six 3pm kick-offs.

Some of the team news filtering through this afternoon includes Wayne Rooney (and John O’Shea) being given a place on the bench (probably an ankle injury, right?) with Javier Hernandez given another crack at the whip. Their opponents West Brom call in Somen Tchoyi and Marc-Antoine Fortuné in place of Graham Dorrans and the injured Peter Odemwingie…

Nikola Zigic is given a rare start for Birmingham as they visit Arsenal, who in turn only give Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott places on bench on their return from injury, it also looks like Samir Nasri might be out on the wing this afternoon (bugger says I). Harry Redknapp meanwhile sees Ledley King and William Gallas pass fitness tests to play while Sandro also makes his first Premier League start for the club. Moussa Dembele and Diomansy Kamara start up front for home side Fulham.

Newcastle United have drafted Andy Carroll back in as well as Peter Lovenkrands and Danny Guthrie in place of Shola Ameobi, captain Kevin Nolan and the injured Hatem Ben Arfa. Wigan on the other hand drop Hugo Rodallega and Steve Gohouri to allowSteven Caldwell and Ronnie Stam starting berths.

Kieron Dyer starts for West Ham.

The Dugout Discussion is open and welcoming all looking for their usual matchday fix of revelry.

Hopefully after that Wilshere red, the BPs will go Nasri's way.... He was class throughout, as was Wilshere.

    Arshavin was beyond a joke.

Arshavin seems to have no desire to play this season. He needs a kick up the backside.

I seem to recall that during the mid 00's, Newcastle had an abysmal record at keeping clean sheets in the Premier League. I am not convinced that this fact has changed much.

he still is streets ahead of anything else they have. All goalkeepers make mistakes but it is keeping these to a minimum, for me VDS is still in top 10 keepers in the world.

Worrying days for us Toon fans. The 4-4-2 was absolutely horrible, it left a gaping chasm between the midfield and defence which N'Zogbia went to town in during the first half. No-one had a particularly good game, at a push Jonas Gutierrez may be in line for 1 BP. Tiote and Barton did not function well at all, and I think this should re-assure Hughton that 4-5-1 is the best formation for the side. Carroll is just a fraction short of pace to be a really effective striker - he had loads of chances that he just couldn't quite get on the end of. I'll be keeping faith with him for my FPL side - the upcoming fixtures are too good to ignore. But with two key players out long term (Harper and Ben Arfa), I really think Newcastle are an injury or two off serious relegation troubles.
    Not a good performance at all - BP predictions - 3 N'Zogbia, 2 Gomez, 1 Gutierrez.

Believe me I'm not, I meant the original comment as a tongue in cheek statement (hence the Chelsea bonfire bit at the end). But as a strategy overall for the season I have subscribed to the cheap defence / strong mid and I still think that is the way to go.
