The calm before the storm of no early kick-offs has gone and now all that’s finally left for us to do is get ensconced in another gameweek bound to throw up some interesting affairs in Gameweek 8.

We’ll be closing out today’s action when Chelsea pay visit to Aston Villa, but there’ll likely to be little surprise there thanks to Carlo’s usual burst of information in revealing his starting XI (Cech; Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole; Mikel, Ramires, Essien; Malouda, Anelka, Kakuta) so now it’s time to sit back and take in the six 3pm kick-offs.

Some of the team news filtering through this afternoon includes Wayne Rooney (and John O’Shea) being given a place on the bench (probably an ankle injury, right?) with Javier Hernandez given another crack at the whip. Their opponents West Brom call in Somen Tchoyi and Marc-Antoine Fortuné in place of Graham Dorrans and the injured Peter Odemwingie…

Nikola Zigic is given a rare start for Birmingham as they visit Arsenal, who in turn only give Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott places on bench on their return from injury, it also looks like Samir Nasri might be out on the wing this afternoon (bugger says I). Harry Redknapp meanwhile sees Ledley King and William Gallas pass fitness tests to play while Sandro also makes his first Premier League start for the club. Moussa Dembele and Diomansy Kamara start up front for home side Fulham.

Newcastle United have drafted Andy Carroll back in as well as Peter Lovenkrands and Danny Guthrie in place of Shola Ameobi, captain Kevin Nolan and the injured Hatem Ben Arfa. Wigan on the other hand drop Hugo Rodallega and Steve Gohouri to allowSteven Caldwell and Ronnie Stam starting berths.

Kieron Dyer starts for West Ham.

The Dugout Discussion is open and welcoming all looking for their usual matchday fix of revelry.

I think Fletch definitely needed the rest. United seemed to play well enough, but you just can't give up daft goals. The first one was an iffy free kick and when was the last time VDS made a mistake that resulted in a goal. We need Rooney firing, Berbs missed another sitter and even man of the match Nani again wasted good opportunites.
Anyway you really have to give West Brom credit, they are a very good outfit.

Fair comment you need to give them loads of credit. First game of the season they took the game to Chelsea and look good for half an hour, then they beat Arsenal and draw with United. I knew when they came up they were the best equipped of the promotion teams to stay up and now are 6th in the league.

I believe the root of your problem lies with Carrick. In racing parlance, he just hasn't "trained on", and is now a level or two below what I would expect of a United player. Also, Evra seems to be getting the yips - whether that is French related, I wouldn't know. I do hope that Fergie can sort it - but that is the other area of concern.

He's not good enough yet. Gives the ball away too much and gets caught out of position. Maybe if Rio and Vidic were looking solid he'd play, but steady O'Shea is probably what's needed.

I think it's worth persisting with Rafael. Remember what Ashley Cole was like before he learnt the art of defending, all over the place.
O'Shea isn't good enough and wont get any better.

Bit harsh that. Don't recall cashley ever being all over the place. Rafael will make mistakes for sure, but will be a top player.

Cashley has been phenomenally consistent throughout his career as far as i remember, even when his private life has been in the media. He may be a prat but outside influences don't seem to affect his game, unlike others eg Rooney

I rate him, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't start him regularly until the rest of the house is in order. You know what you're getting with O'Shea, he's not brilliant but he'll do a steady job until the CB's get their act together.

O'Shea was good enough to start 11 of the 14 games we broke the clean sheet record for the season before last.

Absolutely agree. O'shea is exactly the calming, experienced pro you need in your defence sometimes. A defender does not need to be that spectacular when Evra is there. Ivanovic does a similar role for us.

Lads, not often I eek advice but with VDV and Adams going up soon do I change:

Bale - Barton - Malouda (wolves game coming up)

    VDV - Adams - Areta

    whic would leave me with;
    Nani - VDV - Adams - Fab - Arteta

    thoughts please?

That is a biased comment if I ever saw one. Give them some credit for playing good football and getting a draw in one of the toughest possible games.

All the goals were poor defending from both teams. United's first goal came from a free kick which shouldn't of been given & Carson made a mistake from it. Don't get me started on Nani & Rafael's diving throughout the match..

At 2-2, we went for the win and made positive changes to get all 3 points, Thomas on, Dorrans on etc. People that can't give us credit after beating Arsenal at the Emirates & drawing at OT are bitter & deluded people.
