Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch
Share:

Two entertaining games saw seven goals scored, El Capitan for many Carlos Tevez striking a brace and Liverpool, in spite of the fillip of a completed takeover, continuing their terrible start to the season.

For many this weekends subplot was the captaincy debate – Tevez vs Nani. Overall Tevez (just) edged it with 12 points to Nani’s 10. If you didn’t captain either of them – awkward.

Bizarrely every one of the Sunday Knee Jerks’ that i’ve written have involved a Liverpool angle. For that reason, and given they still appear to be well and truely skewed on the pitch at the moment, I won’t harp on about how investment in Liverpool players at the moment seems nothing more than a complete folly. If the slipery slope were a theme park ride, Liverpool would be the spoilt kid pestering their parents to spend all day on it. Theories on how a change in owner would lead to a change in fortune on the pitch proved deluded. Liverpool were toothless and look a shadow of the team which came seventh last season – damning indeed. For every negative there is a possitive however, and from a Fantasy Football perspective this came in the form of the Toffees.

The consensus this season is that whilst the league table position would suggest Everton are struggling, performances have indicated otherwise. It was difficult to determine whether they were actually good today or whether Liverpool were just really really bad. Nevertheless there were bright sparks in the sign of Seamus Coleman who continued his fine recent form with an assist for the opening goal. Given Everton’s recent run of clean sheets, indication from manager David Moyes that Coleman has the right hand side of midfield as his own, his price (4.4 million on FPL) and the fact he’s out of position, the young Irishman is looking like a must for our Fantasy Football teams. Before we all run off to put him in our team however it is worth noting that Everton have a tricky away game at Tottenham in the offing but follow this with two home games and an away game to his former club Blackpool. Expect his price to rise in the near future.

The later kick off saw title contenders Manchester City travel to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool in only the Tangerines third home game since their return to the top flight. The key information to take from the Manchester City game was the reshuffle of the pack by City boss Roberto Mancini. Notable absences came in the form of  the Toure brothers who were no where to be seen either in the starting line-up nor on the bench. Whilst Yaya’s possible omission was noted in our Injuries and Ban’s section and didn’t come as a huge suprise, the absence of his brother was something of a shock. Yaya’s place was taken by the enigmatic Emmanual Adebayor who to be honest was pretty rubbish. At first the consensus was that the revertion to a 4-4-2 was exactly the right move for Manchester City. Certainly if they were to smash some of the lower level teams a more attacking mentality would need to be adopted rather than the continued three defensive minded central midfielders. How wrong that thought process was.

City continually laboured throughout the opening 70 odd minutes of the game with that formation, and it wasn’t until David Silva was brought on to replace the aforementioned Adebayor and the formation was tweaked that things turned round for the better for the Citizens.  Silva’s introduction saw an assist for Carlos Tevez’s opening (dubious) first goal and the Spaniard topped it off his influential cameo with an exquisite finish which turned out to be the winning goal. Unfortunately for Fantasy Football enthusiasts his place in the starting line up is far from guaranteed, however one mans place who is certain is Carlos Tevez and with 7 goals in 8 this season and 28 goals in his last 30 games for Man City its difficult to not try to find a way to get him into your team.

Apologies for the use of Ian Evat’s name in the title, bar the “foul”/tackle on him that led to Tevez’s second goal he really did nothing of note – i’m just a sucker for a pun.

    Drogba(C) Carroll Tevez

    Hahnemann Albrighton Shawcross Samba

Thinking of Bale > Zogbia. Nolan didn't feature this week, is he at risk of not starting, should i get rid of him? or keep hold?

Bit of a dilemma, I've fallen from a 10,000 ranking to a 40,000 ranking over the last month or so, have injury troubles and only about 50% happy with my team. Tempted to wildcard, although aware that it might be wise to hold out for longer as barely 1/4 of the way through the season.

Any advice from anyone? wildcard or gang on for longer? Have one sub available...

Probably not, although I would like to, as Mancini is such a prick. The three options are, in order of preference, Green, Gomes & Al-Habsi, so currently I'm shitting bricks over it. It really depends how much Fabregas frightens me, as it's a doodle to reintroduce the Drogs ...

nice , id prob get rid of arshavin,

hel do nothing against city ?(or well, probability says he wont, hel might scoring a hat trick, the strange asshole)

and you will want fabregas soon after

so that would be my move

uldis ozols is right, but i wouldnt worry, united are in crisis and o shea is a mature player who can offer stability, he should keep his place and either way not bad to sit on your bench the odd time he doesnt, so dont worry about his price

( i would be selling hughes for simpson in 2 weeks to allow you to get fabregas)

Where's your other 2 midfielders? 8 of that squad are playing away next week so that's not great.

O'Shea will be rotated with Rafael but United don't look cleansheet material at present. Arshavin should come out - don't know what your other midfield subs are but Cahill, Arteta, VDV, N'Zogbia, Adam are popular suspects for the middle.

need to shore up my defence as it's looking pricey and Sagna is obviously out at the moment.

Currently - A Cole, Sagna, Elmohamady, Evatt & Baptiste.

    Thinking Sagna > Distin

Everton have got 6 weeks of not bad games other than Tottenham and Arsenal.

    Good idea?

is he going to feature as a regular though? I know he has had 3 good games but prior to that, not much and I need a full 90 minute player every week as my 2 subs are Blackpool players!

Guys, this website rocks for a fantasy manager. I have to decide on my defensive lineup next week. I wanna play 3 defenders. I have Mummy, Samba, Alex, Carr and Colocini. Which three should be played? My initial thought would be Carr, Mummy and Alex.

Can we all agree on something? This year is showing how badly MON did with aload of players.

So many players he failed to use give some gametime have showed they could have done a job in the league for him. I dont mean they are world beaters but certainly when Villa were very short and he refused to change his 11 he was proven wrong.

The likes of Heskey, L Young, Reo Coker, Harewood have all done ok this year and certainly should have been used more than what Mon used them when he refused to change his 11 which cost them a CL place in the last 2 years.

i dunno, the players you're mentioning are crappppp

i think if mon was aspiring to make villa a top club he had to show the failings for what they were he had an ok first team that needed investment, plugging the holes with the players mentioned would be a short term solution and a possible excuse for the owners not to invest.

As I said they are certainly not world beaters but it would have allowed players to get a rest and created abit of competition in the squad.

All the above players have improved and played well since he left. They all showed they could play in the league.

Every spring his players were sooooo tired and yet he persisted playing the 11 week in week out. You can imagine the unrest it would have created with no chance of a change in sight for the subs every week.

All im saying is he never gave his squad a fair deal, the first team or the subs,

It was silly that Milner and Dunne got to each weekend and were always a doubt since their bodies had been run ragged due to playing virtually every available minute.

I think Villa were away at Hull, and Warnock was pulling up with an injury after 30 mins or so, and MON just told him to play through the pain and complete the full 90, such was his fear to use anyone else.

In interviews, MON wouldn constantly yap on about having such a small squad and they were down to their bare bones and this is why they couldn't compete with the City's, Chelsea's and United's of this world...

    AP

    Scott Wootton

    whats your opinion?

How did you come to leave Liverpool and join United?
I was an Under-16 at Liverpool and I felt the path through to the first team or even to the Reserves was blocked by the number of players that were being brought in from abroad, who weren’t necessarily better than the English players already there. Those players were being brought in by Rafa Benitez and they were being played ahead of the English players coming through. They offered me a scholarship but I turned it down. Luckily for me, United were interested. They took me on a week’s trial and once I knew they were interested I didn’t want to look anywhere else. I’ve never looked back since.

Is it true that Liverpool fielded you as a 14-year-old in an under-18s tournament?
Yeah. When I was playing for the Under-15s, I went to a tournament in America with the under-18s who had won the FA Youth Cup twice in a row. Steve Heighway took me along. I was only 14 and he told me that the club had only done that with two players before, Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard, so I felt very privileged.

There are some potentially fantastic bargains with Kolorov and Boswinga being cheap and attacking full backs. Konchesky would be there too if 'pool sort themselves out.

On another note: Anyone know two goalies that rotate well over next 10 GW's? I'm thinking Krul (who hasn't done much yet) and Mignolet (but he may be dropped soon for fit again Gordon)

I have Foster and Hannemann and am defo planning to get in Krul next week. Hope they can improve their defence though.
