Rooney hysteria is in full effect following this afternoon’s press conference from Alex Ferguson in which he confirmed that the striker wants out of Old Trafford. Ferguson revealed that he was left “dumbfounded” by the player’s intent to leave the club and went on to lay the situation bare for press and fans alike. You can read a comprehensive transcript of the conference on United’s official site.

For Fantasy Managers it’s another twist in a season which has already many of the so-called heavy hitters stall and disappoint. While Rooney has struggled to find a semblance of last season’s devastating form, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres and Frank Lampard have all failed to ignite, hampered by injuries and remnants of World Cup hangovers.

The situation with Rooney may change and he may yet prove to be an asset before his time at United comes to an end. Right now however, that seems unlikely. There is clearly tension between player and manager and Rooney’s displays to this point are a world away from last season’s showings.

Ferguson has stressed that the door of negotiation remains open, but in reality it appears that United will look to offload Rooney in January before his value diminishes. Just what he can produce in their colours up to that point is up for debate, there are already unfounded reports that Ferguson will leave Rooney out of his side from this point on.

In Fantasy terms he certainly looks set to remain an outcast. In a season where Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez have stepped up and maintained their strong return rate, Rooney will surely remain on the periphery of our thinking. In many ways Fantasy Managers will be looking for his form to remain dipped in order to allow the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and perhaps even Javier Hernandez further opportunity to flourish.

To compound matters, Ferguson also confirmed that Rooney will not take any part in United’s Champions League tie with Bursaspor on Wednesday after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in training today. That setback, coupled with today’s revelations surely puts Rooney down as a major doubt to start at the Britannia this weekend. The Berbatov/Hernandez partnership could well be in force again then. It will be interesting to see just how today’s developments affect United as a club and in turn, whether this casts a huge cloud over their title credentials and their value as a source of Fantasy talent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Why do pundits keep saying Man United have lost games this season? Kansas City Wizards don't really count now do they?

cos theyve done almost as much as losing games

shocking draws are throwing away games, as good as losing in some cases

      but i see your point

We get it, you're unbeaten. Congrats.

Fun fact: Chelsea have played 6 top half teams in the first 8 games. Utd have played just 2. And apparently it's Chelsea that have had the easy start..... Pfft.

What are you talking about? You've played Citeh and Villa and that's why you didn't beat either side, because they are good. Don't talk about Wigan being a top half team when they were close to being relegated last year, or Stoke or West Brom.
United are unbeaten, Chelsea are top, Citeh are second, those are the facts that cannot be disputed.

I fully expect Chelsea to win the league and United to struggle to get 4th this season.

The difference in player quality is immense now between the two sides.

            Away at Wigan - DEFEAT

Former Arsenal striker Eduardo on Shakhtar's style of play:

"They call us 'Little Arsenal' in this part of Europe you know," says Eduardo. "We are not Arsenal - Arsenal is one of the best clubs in Europe, after Barcelona or Manchester United. But we have a very good team and we are trying to play like Arsenal. We put the ball on the ground and play nice football."

    Foster (Carson)
    Alex, Williamson, Dann (Foley, Konchesky)
    Malouda, Brunt, Nani, Adam, VDV
    Drogba (c), Berbs (Carroll)

Seeing I can see your team, it's hard to answer the question. Any 3 are good choices. Brunt probably comes in 3rd though.

Yeah pretty much. No BPs, only one point for winning a penalty. And you can swap in subs between the two days play.

Seriously though, I can't see any reason to get rid of him. He'll only miss the Liverpool game where you were never going to play him anyway.

I need to build up to having enough cash for Fabregas.

Based on the scouting the fixtures article and stats etc, brunt seems liek a good investment, or NZog both at 5.4.

However both seem like they are about to rise in price. I would sell Malouda to get one of them.

So do I wait and pay 0.1 or even 0.2 more next week, or transfer now given this Saturdays fixture for Chelsea

I bought Malouda at 9.6 worth 10.4 now, so even if he goes up 0.1 this week I get no extra money.

Damnit! :/ Got held up at the hospital today with extra teachings and didn't get to set up my lineup for this weeks CL games! Super buzz kill because I had a few transfers set (Borrielo & Ronaldo IN plus Alex & Sagna OUT to be exact) that I didn't get to make. Grrr going to make watching this weeks games almost unberable!

reposting this as many of you weren't here when i did...would liker all your advice...
hi guys….week after week i’m getting frustrated with my points…in gw8 i made 5 transfers taking a 16 point hit…in the hope of making my team better…but still got stuck with a soggy 47….my mini league rivals have gone way ahead of me…which i was once on top of…this is my team below…please help or suggest changes required…

    foster jaask
    elmo williamson o’shea jara alcaraz
    ethers malouda bale nani barton
    drogba elmander caroll

got 8.3 in bank….ready to do any number of transfers required…though i usually dont like point hits..but i’m gettin desperate…since none of my frnds knw about this site thought i would have the edge but somehow they have edged past me…sorry for the essay….all helps appreciated..

      There's nothing worse than a soggy 47.....

I'd save money for Bale to Fabregas next week, so that's about 5 mill needed there.. With the other 3.3.... Hmmm? You've got a lot of decent players in there, perhaps Etherington to someone like VDV or Arteta?

Why have you got 8.3 in the bank. No interest there! Defence lightweight and so is attack.
