Rooney hysteria is in full effect following this afternoon’s press conference from Alex Ferguson in which he confirmed that the striker wants out of Old Trafford. Ferguson revealed that he was left “dumbfounded” by the player’s intent to leave the club and went on to lay the situation bare for press and fans alike. You can read a comprehensive transcript of the conference on United’s official site.

For Fantasy Managers it’s another twist in a season which has already many of the so-called heavy hitters stall and disappoint. While Rooney has struggled to find a semblance of last season’s devastating form, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres and Frank Lampard have all failed to ignite, hampered by injuries and remnants of World Cup hangovers.

The situation with Rooney may change and he may yet prove to be an asset before his time at United comes to an end. Right now however, that seems unlikely. There is clearly tension between player and manager and Rooney’s displays to this point are a world away from last season’s showings.

Ferguson has stressed that the door of negotiation remains open, but in reality it appears that United will look to offload Rooney in January before his value diminishes. Just what he can produce in their colours up to that point is up for debate, there are already unfounded reports that Ferguson will leave Rooney out of his side from this point on.

In Fantasy terms he certainly looks set to remain an outcast. In a season where Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez have stepped up and maintained their strong return rate, Rooney will surely remain on the periphery of our thinking. In many ways Fantasy Managers will be looking for his form to remain dipped in order to allow the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and perhaps even Javier Hernandez further opportunity to flourish.

To compound matters, Ferguson also confirmed that Rooney will not take any part in United’s Champions League tie with Bursaspor on Wednesday after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in training today. That setback, coupled with today’s revelations surely puts Rooney down as a major doubt to start at the Britannia this weekend. The Berbatov/Hernandez partnership could well be in force again then. It will be interesting to see just how today’s developments affect United as a club and in turn, whether this casts a huge cloud over their title credentials and their value as a source of Fantasy talent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

So dont know if this is old news but Ballague (Spainish Journo) is reporting he was talking to Real 2 weeks ago and they said they knew Rooney was unsettled and looking at his options.
They also said 2 weeks ago that it was already too late to make a move as he was supposedly gone long way into talks with another club and would be pretty impossible to get him.

In other words deal is already done with City.

Everything Ferguson did today makes perfect sense so.

Why would United agree to sell him to City? Makes no sense to me. I'd have thought they'd take considerably less money to ship him off somewhere else

Its not that United have agreed to sell him. It is more on Rooney side that he has agreed Personal details, contract, wages, rights etc with City and nobody else and that is what he wanted.

Ballague said he knew of this 2 weeks ago and reported in spainish paper and was ridiculed. He didnt mentioned city but said Rooney didnt want to stay.

Apparantly it was 2 very high up negiotators in the Real set up who talked to Rooney ppl and were of the opinion Rooney had a deal ready to go for himself.

Its not that United as a club have done anything or signed any deal etc but Rooney and his people have a deal in place that they want and are happy with and want to force trough. It makes perfect sense given
        1) What Rooney has said in media in last few days
        2) Fergies reaction to it.

That may all be true but United can still sell him to whoever they like. I can't imagine Rooney has said that City is the only club he is interested in joining.

He wouldn't have to move house, he has friends and family in the area, he'll get more money, he won't have to learn a * language *(notice how I didn't say second), he has always said that he has no intention to play abroad

Money basically. If Rooney wants to go and can be sold for as little as 5mil or so in the summer as some report and be a negative influence on the squad then if they can get 25 mill odd for him and get rid of a problem then that will happen.

If United were Glazer free that would be an option. But upstairs Rooney being sold will be santioned.

Whether Fergie plays hard ball on a fee is another option. I cant see him say given the lenght Ferguson went to explain the situation.

They are loads of playes who have left the club in years gone by and it still remains a mystery the story behind it all.

I wonder will Fergie enter the market in English league or finally get himself Benzema

i have a weird feeling he will go to spurs. they need him the most, real madrid have higuain and ronaldo, man city have tevez and any other 30mil+ striker they want next season. at spurs he'd clearly be first choice ahead of that chump defoe, stephen merchant and the vodka guzzling donkey.
spurs should be priced out of this but i think they may push the boat out wage wise for him. had rooney not already won the league and champions league i would doubt hed be interested but i reckon he'd love the challenge at spurs

Rooney has no intention about going to Spurs.

He is leaving cos he wants the money, change and "to win". He obviously has no ties to the club.

Goin to spurs is a 0 % chance. Basically if we imagine no deal is in place there are 3 clubs wanting him and could afford him

        1. Real
        2. Chelsea
        3. City

Real have some interest in him but Ballague pointed out it was too late for the move for him and they are currently happy with how they are set up and have Kaka to come back

Chelsea wont happen cos of Rooney and his family if he left Manchester it would be only for abroad as Rooney has alot of family there and Collen sister is sick in the local hospital.
Also Rooney is reported to not like london at all.

City fits his bill perfectly. He will get his money and can stay in the area with his family.

Im not too terribly miffed as he was never my favourite players as many here knew any money we get for a lad who could as easily end up like Gazza will be most welcome.

lol. yeah those 3 teams do seem like the only real possibilities. i think spurs could surprise some with how far their champions league revenue from this year can stretch, especially as it's clear that a top striker is what they are missing so perhaps rooney could help ensure plenty more champions leagues and the money that brings to help pay his wages.
i hope rooney wakes up and stays at man utd. this whole thing seems ridiculous and nothing more than a player who is used to things going so well suddenly having a shocker on and off the pitch and like any elite sportman blaming failure on everything and everyone but themself.

Elmo has to be worth the extra 0.3 over Bramble right?

Only problem is the extra 0.3 might prevent me shifting Dann to Kolarov in a weeks time. This could make up my mind for me. Unless Williamson get's shifted to Simpson that is!

Try and get Bosingwa, Elmo and Kolarov into your defence somehow, it doesn't matter about the quality of the other two to be honest, just so long as they play for their teams.

Why? Man City and Chelsea have the strongest two defences, both Kolarov and Bosingwa offer significant attacking potential.

Elmo is OOP in midfield so also offers solid attacking potential, albeit for an average team.

Other two guys can be Simpson and Jara for example and you just play either one of those if they have a good fixture.

question is since i already have cole, is a fit bosingwa just as cemented to start on the right as cole is on the left? if so, then i can downgrade cole, get nani for ethers, and get kolarov for konchesky and have a very solid team.

You already have Cole, so you have the luxury of being able to hold onto Cole and wait and see about Bosingwa's starting role.

However, I am almost certain that Bosingwa will be first choice when he is up to speed.

no, there's a little thing called cash that's in the way, which is why i'm talking about downgrading cole. nani is long term, so it's ok, but the sooner the better. i would have got him last week if i didn't move so quickly on fabs, then i could easily have gotten bosingwa this week and fabs next- oh well.

Hi all, as usual advice would be greatly appreciated. Would a 4 pt hit this week and one more 4 pt ht next week be worth it to have this team for GW10? (I won’t bore you with the 5 transfers needed to get there)
      Foster/Hahnn
      ACole/ ElMumm/ Jones/ Enrique/ Jara
      Fabs/ Malouda/ Nani/ Davies/ 4.4m (maybe Cleverley or BoaMorte?)
      Drog/ Berba/ Varney

      OR.....keep it simple, no points hits (and lose Malouda)for GW10 team of ;
      Foster/Hahnn
      ACole/ Elmumm/ Jones/ Enrique/ Shawx
      Fabs/ Nani/ Adam/ Petrov/ Davies
      Drogba/ Tevez (or Berb?)/ Carroll

What was this I heard Andy Gray and Richard Keys talking about yesterday where Colocini's equaliser at the weekend had probably saved Hughton's job?!

I didn't realise he was under that much pressure so soon! Ok, Aston Villa aside, they've been shite at home, but surely winning at Goodison and giving City a game of it should make up for that?

Andy Grey always, always talks a load of shite about Newcastle. Yes, yes the fans have been impatient in the past but not now, the relegation has grounded the expectations of many of the fans plus Hughtons fantastic job last season means he's safe for a good while yet. Hey folks, her's my current squad:

      Foster/Robinson
      O'Shea/Elmo/Jara/Richards/Samba
      Nani/Adam/Etherington/Malouda/Nasri
      Drogba/Tevez/Carroll

Here's some moves im considering in the "Fabregas transfer".
      Malouda to N'Zogbia
      Nasri to Fabregas
O'Shea or Richards to Jagielka or Bosingwa

These moves allow me to keep Tevez up front with a decent defense, although I may be a little hesitant dropping malouda.. But it does give me some 'balance'.. Thoughts? cheers

Well after having Nzgobia for the first 5 GW's for a total of 5 pts and watching him drop 0.5m and promptly dropping him, I now want him back after he picked up 28 pts in 3 weeks. Go figure.

      So

Drop Bale and Arshavin for Nzogbia and Fabregas

      OR

Drop Arshavin and Carroll for Nzogbia and Tevez?

      no hit.

i'm not camzy, but i think adam is far more stable and central to his team as he's proven. he hogs all the bps when they get a result and takes every set piece. he's top 3 mids at the moment, can't beat his value either. i can see him moving to a big club next season if they don't stay up...

Cheers bud. Contemplating getting one of the two at the expence of bale, which would allow me to get fabs and keep tevez. But bale is class and is due a big score so therin lies the problem. Also thinking/hoping that blackpools will endure a reality check and be shit but don't see that happening anytime soon.

If Spurs had a prolific striker, then Bale's points haul would be higher.

VDV has stolen his set piece duties. VDV or Bale = no brainer. It'd be a little of a sideways move. Address more pressing concerns first.

Sorry I've taken so long to respond.

N'Zog for me will do better long term.

He's got a better record, bonus points are drawn to him, and as good as Blackpool have played so far, they are still tipped to finish bottom. N'Zog is also in a better team, is a better player, and as long as he's playing first team, he'll score well. Just watch out for his sulks which can keep him out of the team sometimes.

Hull City, Burnley, now Blackpool. Surprise factor. They often start the season off really well then start losing, and then keep losing. It's almost certainly going to play out that way. There squad just doesn't have enough depth and sooner rather than later, they'll be found out, and Adam's returns will suffer.

Short term though, the fixtures and form are with Blackpool, so I'd jump on board the Charliewagon now and get ready to jump off when Blackpool start losing.

What's up with Jones, okay they don't have the best chance of the CS but OOP means there is some potential for some attacking points no? To be fair I aint exactly seen where his OOP is. Skysports had him in the front 4 of a 5 man midfield.

Last night was his first cleanie since I got him and Samba is the only defender worth having from Blackurn IMO. Think he plays in front of the defence, an even more defensive position than a full back.

Few weeks time I should hopefully be able to asemble this little lot of beauties. Excluding the keepers but then not exactly a lot of cleanies going around at the moment so happy with them. Injury crisis means I need a 4 point his this week and possible an 8 pointer.

Simpson, Bosingwa & Kloarov. All returning from injury. Pure speculation as to if/when they'll nail down a starting spot.

Wow that is a pretty deadly team!

Team value is very high as well. Good job with that.

But there are still quite a lot of risks.

Simpson, Bosingwa, Kolarov will need to be watched.

Goalies are very cheap, and if you have Bosingwa and Kolarov, Coleman and Elmo can be downgraded to save funds. I'd look at Mignolet and try to get someone better.

I love this phrase "X is due Y".

As in "Rooney is due a goal", which I've been hearing every GW since discovering this forum from GW1. 🙂

Nobody is ever "due" anything. If they haven't shown any form (as in FPL points) for a while then it's probably because they're out of sorts/personal issues/niggling injuries/just plain crapness/a sudden interest in grit/debating cake vs death.

I'm not due anything in life and neither are any footballers, so am now going to take some hits on transfers for players who have proven that they are on form, rather than players who might be due something or other.

We will see how it goes. I'm learning all the time here thanks to all of you.

              Morning people,

Have made freebie this week, yaya to Nzogbia.

However thinking of doing enrique to simpson (3.9) and can then do Bale to Fabregas as well.

8pt hit but will have midfield of Nani/Fabs/Malouda/Nzog

Think I have to do now as Fabs will surely rise over next week and Bale may go down. Thoughts?

              how about this theory.
people realise ancelotti has said bosingwa will start against wolves and buy him in their thousands. As bosingwa has a very small ownership he like boselli will need a very small number of nto's in order to fall in price. therefore a mini bangwagon on here followed by bosingwa then finding himself on the bench too many times to justify his price tag could see him plummet in price right down to 5 million in a few weeks time?
just throwing it out there. IF he doesn't hold down a regular place after the wolves game this will surely happen.

Happens the whole time... Daniel Ayala fell to 3.8 (from 4.5) within a few weeks of playing for Liverpool in the first game of last season.

Obviously it needs enough transfers for Bosingwa to go up once, which I doubt will happen before the Wolves game (he may be protected anyway, I can't remember when FPL removed his red flag..).

Whilst he probably wont play against Blackburn and Liverpool, he'll play some games after that, so he won't fall too far. Besides, the people bring him in surely aren't expecting him to play every week?! Although I guess if the masses see that a 5.6 Chelsea defender scored, say, 9 points against Wolves, then I guess they may buy into it, and then dump en masse after he doesn't play vs Blackburn and Liverpool..

Bosingwa at 5.0... Hmmm.. Now that would be genuinely tempting!

not sure, form what i'm reading on here and total fpl there are a lot who think bosingwa's comeback will suddenly turn ivanovic into a cb only therefore securing bosingwa's place in every match.
my view is right now bosingwa is 3rd choice behind ivanovic and ferreira. in a couple of weeks second choice behind ivanovic and from then on fighting to become first choice

For one reason or another, Paulo has actually played a helluva lot of football this season. Cheeky little bugger... I'd almost forgotten that he existed after the last couple of seasons.

People are idiots, simple as. I'd eat my hat (not that I have one) if Bosingwa plays the next three league games, as some people - like DeathAngel! - would like to believe...

yeah ferreira has racked up a lot of games considering he's no more than back up. i was trying to warn people off him at the start of the season saying he was a ridiculous signing and they might as well get owen hargreaves. but thanks to 2 assists and few starts they would have done not too badly with him. luckily the alternative i suggested alex has battered him

p.s surely he doesn't even need to go up in price to plummet? boselli never went up in price and has now fallen 0.9mil already

I guess if he has 25,000 transfers in when protected then he could plummet after that....

But if there is no protection, if he huffs and puffs and gets to within 90% of a rise, then all the transfers out after that just cancel out the 90%, rather than resulting in multiple falls.

Boselli fell loads because NTI is obviously zero from the start, and it was only initial owners (who never technically transferred him in) that got rid.

Is Dempsey & Bale ---> VDV and Adam (no hit) worth it this week? Or should I wait..

I think I'd wait, Bale to VDV is a sideways shift so not really a priority, and Dempsey is away to WBA next week whilst Adam is away to Birmingham; I know who I'd rather have in my side out of the two. Obviously just my own opinion though.

He was on cuise control, did well and pulled the strings without ever needing to go too hard.

Nasri and Wilshere were the notable performers on the night. Nasri's suddenly looking like a sensible fantasy purchase even if he's deployed out wide. Not as sensible as Fabregas though.

                    No.

                    Coleman's playing right midfield.

Competition is from Bily, Osman, Rodwell and Fellaini.

Not necessarily direct competition, but those players coming in could force him out. But based on Everton's lack of width and success of Coleman's direct plays down the line so far, I think he'll play.

It is unclear at this point but he is surely a more natural RB choice than Ivanovic.

coleman will be back on the bench most likely very soon, ireland is questionable still and wait and see how rvp comes back after injury-he's very injury prone and hasn't played well since last season after having a horrible world cup.

I don't know what you're expecting from 77 minutes of football, but 2 assists isn't bad. That assist for Walcott at B'Burn was vintage RVP.

For most players, you wait on these kind of things, but Van persie gets injured and come back all the time. If he needed a particularly long amount of time to get into his stride after injury, he'd never manage to hit form at all.

Having said that, Fabregas is the main man for Arsenal coverage. They need to be going mental on teams every week to justify investment in the pair of them.

agreed, provided fabs can stay healthy. when he's out, it seems as though nasri is the best replacement arsenal coverage imo since he takes over the penalty duties. about rvp, true he's used to coming back from injuries all the time, but now w/chamakh up there with him, his points might not get as high up as they once were. i'm biased too and not a fan of rvp because of what he cost the dutch national team during the world cup and his tantrum that nearly caused an implosion within the squad.
