Rooney hysteria is in full effect following this afternoon’s press conference from Alex Ferguson in which he confirmed that the striker wants out of Old Trafford. Ferguson revealed that he was left “dumbfounded” by the player’s intent to leave the club and went on to lay the situation bare for press and fans alike. You can read a comprehensive transcript of the conference on United’s official site.

For Fantasy Managers it’s another twist in a season which has already many of the so-called heavy hitters stall and disappoint. While Rooney has struggled to find a semblance of last season’s devastating form, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres and Frank Lampard have all failed to ignite, hampered by injuries and remnants of World Cup hangovers.

The situation with Rooney may change and he may yet prove to be an asset before his time at United comes to an end. Right now however, that seems unlikely. There is clearly tension between player and manager and Rooney’s displays to this point are a world away from last season’s showings.

Ferguson has stressed that the door of negotiation remains open, but in reality it appears that United will look to offload Rooney in January before his value diminishes. Just what he can produce in their colours up to that point is up for debate, there are already unfounded reports that Ferguson will leave Rooney out of his side from this point on.

In Fantasy terms he certainly looks set to remain an outcast. In a season where Didier Drogba and Carlos Tevez have stepped up and maintained their strong return rate, Rooney will surely remain on the periphery of our thinking. In many ways Fantasy Managers will be looking for his form to remain dipped in order to allow the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and perhaps even Javier Hernandez further opportunity to flourish.

To compound matters, Ferguson also confirmed that Rooney will not take any part in United’s Champions League tie with Bursaspor on Wednesday after being stretchered off with an ankle injury in training today. That setback, coupled with today’s revelations surely puts Rooney down as a major doubt to start at the Britannia this weekend. The Berbatov/Hernandez partnership could well be in force again then. It will be interesting to see just how today’s developments affect United as a club and in turn, whether this casts a huge cloud over their title credentials and their value as a source of Fantasy talent.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Good stuff from Real Madrid. If they can find sharpness and defensive stability they will go further than the last years this season. Can't wait for the El Clasico.

The attacking quartet looked great and I wouldn't be surprised if they at some stage this season score ten goals against some lowly La Liga team. Özil and Di Maria are great signings, especially the former. He's special.

Nope, full lineup (ever evolving) for GW9 is:
          Al-Habsi
          Bosingwa / Konchesky / Elmo
Nani / VdV / Boa Morte / Fabregas
          Berbatov / Drogba (c) / Tevez

Subs: Gilks / Adam / Tamas / Simpson

I know the rotation risks attached to Bosingwa, he is a short term player that will be downgraded to add cash to upgrade Boa Morte to N'Zogbia, or a defender.

I sort of preferred it without Berbatov and with Varney allowing me to have Malouda too, but I dunno - Berbatov should be increasingly important for Utd. Might revert back though if I get clear indication that Malouda wont be rested against Wolves

Well Samba is only missing one game, and Coleman has a tough fixture in which Everton are unlikely to keep a clean sheet so no real rush there. Etherington could do as well as Adam however Adam has the better fixtures over the next five so thats not a bad move, though again you could wait a week. Tevez for Chamakh is always a good idea price permitting as was your move replacing Arshavin with Nani.

Just watched the SAF interviews... looks like Rooney is being hung out to dry and the full force of the utd propaganda machine his been lauched against him... but you do get the feeling that he has brought this upon himself and its not the 1st time he has told fibs about his manager.. didnt a certain mister david moyes get his day in court..

From a United point of view, if Rooney doesn't want to play for us because he can get more money elsewhere, than he can go and lets get the money for him. I thought this guy just wanted to play football and money was secondary. At least with Tevez, you can argue that as well as being a greedy c***, he also wasn't playing.
Would you want him at your club? All of a sudden my facebook page is full of citeh fans saying what a great player he is.

Depends though, I obviously a tad biased but as a professional footballer, when United come knocking, you cannot ignore it. He couldn't win things at Everton.

The is one good thing to come from all of this. it might wake up sleeping United fans to the current dangers of the Glazers ownership and maybe the green and gold campaign can take a step forward. The Glazers need to be hurt in the pocket and it needs to happen now.

+ alot- the massive flaw with the green and gold last season was that all those pretty scarves were INSIDE the ground- meaning that the glazer were probably laughing all the way to the bank knowing that even their opponents were still inflating his wallet...

The longer this goes on the more respect I have for FC united...

Can't argue with that - and him leaving us was actually the best thing that happened in ages as it gave us a load (for our standards) of money and Moyes turned us into a top 6 side. Although at the time I was gutted

Do most UTD fans believe in this Norwich scarf campaign though? A few reds at work (and me) think they're just opportunists making some cash and shifting some excess wool

I'm suprised and disappointed that the myth of Rooney being like every football mad youngster (always wanting the ball, not interested in anything other than playing) has been revealed to be a load of balls. Although the lad has had questionable off the field antics I thought football was his primary focus - obviously not. Shame, Utd better off without but replacing will not be easy.

It hardly comes as a surprise that Rooney who whores himself to Nike, Powerade and god knows how many others isnt the nice lad down the road who just loves football.

I dont see it as a massive surprise that he wanted to leave(granted it is this early in his career)at some point as he has no ties what so ever to Manchester or United .

Has he simply spat the dummy cos e missed a few games and he's upset? Has turned into a spoiled kid??

I do not believe SAF will allow him to go to ManC....but if he is to leave whilst SAF will want him out the country - the Glaziers will want the highest bidder!

And after all the restrained negativity from Fergie about the situation, he has promised to "keep the door open" for Rooney, so it might blow over. I just don't see it myself.

The "love of money is the root of all evil" and all that cr*p. Rooney a City player in January? Nothing surprises in the footie world today to be honest with you. You name me one player who plays because they enjoy the game?? Answers on a postcard...

SAF just would not have done what he did if it wasn't the end. He said this had been coming since the middle of August- if not for the papers being all over it (from Rooney's people) then it would have stayed quiet in exactly the same way as Ronaldo's last season at Utd.

I really think the fans will get behind the team now. Might not win anything but it will be nice to have such a collective support again.

Two good examples indeed. The sad fact is that it's a business, and huge business at that. As soon as Paul Stretford got in Rooneys ear at Everton he turned his head and he left for UTD. I know this also meant trophies as well as money but he was just a kid already on good money with the club he loved

        Van Der Vaart.

He's a steal at 7.7. He takes free kicks and penalties, and he's practically an OoP forward. A season long keeper bar injury.

Arteta is similar, but is more expensive and plays deeper.

Tottenham are also a better side than Everton.

nzogbia - good form but 2 away games after bolton home which is generally low scoring, nzog could go on a random strop and demand to leave in january etc etc etc

Considering an 8pt hit this week and another 8pt hit next week to get Drogs back in this week & Fabs in next week

GW9: Carroll, Berbatov & Hangeland > Drogba, Varney & Coleman
    GW10: Hart, Alex & Nolan > Foster, Fabs & DEF (suggestions welcome - £5.1m pre risers/fallers)

    Worth the hits?

    Would leave me with:

    Stockdale & Foster
Dann, Coleman, Jones, Elmo & TBC
    Albrighton, Nani, VDV, Fabs, Malouda
    Varney, Drogba, Tevez

    Thoughts?

Brave to have all Drogs&Tevex&Malouda&Fabs; one of those really should go (obviously not drogs)to give you a better balance in the middle and something with a bit more punch than Varney (accepted he is doing well at the min...)

Thanks, add Nani & VDV to the ones you mention and that's 6 captain choices. Mmmmmm..... lol

I could leave Carroll in, but it would leave me with £4.3m for the last defender. I'd also like a B'Pool player in there somehow as I'm loving their approach and it'll give me a vested interest in their games!
