Gareth Bale has just minutes ago sealed a superb Champions League hat-trick against the current holders in the San Siro. In doing so the Welshman added another chunk of millions to his value as his burgeoning reputation grew on the European stage. For Fantasy Managers, most notably the thousands that recently shifted Bale from their squad, the hat-trick in the 4-3 defeat for Spurs offered a chilling reminder of his explosive abilities.

The goals mean nothing of course, not least to the outcome of the match. There will also be no rewards for Bale owners this evening. There’s little doubt however, that those who kept the faith with the Welshman will be feeling rather cozy at the prospect of Bale translating that display on a domestic stage.

Bale’s returns have been disappointing of late; the belated reward of the assist for Tom Huddlestone’s goal was his first points for six matches. With Rafael Van der Vaart flourishing alongside him for just a million or so more, it’s little wonder that we’ve seen significant sales. Almost 100,000 managers have got rid since Gameweek 7; they will be fidgeting rather uncomfortably after tonight’s display.

A testing match-up with Everton beckons at the Lane this weekend and tonight’s showing will surely have removed any threat of Bale being rested or indeed shifted to left-back. Having torn apart one of Europe’s best defences, there’s surely no way we will see Bale at full-back in the immediate future. That’s got to be good news for Fantasy Managers or at least those who have resolved the Bale vs Van der Vaart issue in their heads.

There will doubtless be more on that little puzzle to come on these pages, for now we may have just seen the first FPL bandwagon prompted by a European tie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Apparently Terry thinks that Rooney is 'the best player in the world'. Haha.

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3189937/Wayne-Rooney-opens-the-door-to-a-move-to-Chelsea.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Having read the article, I'm not entirely sure where they get the idea that Rooney has opened the door to a possible Chelsea move.

I suppose if Rooney wants to move to Chelsea or Man City, there's not a whole lot United can do to stop him.

The best the can do is delay the inevitable.

Rooney can utilise the Westber Ruling in the summer though. If he doesn't want to move to Madrid/Barca/Inter in January, he'll just sit around and wait for Man City or Chelsea to fund him buying out his contract.

Yes, you do know. If Rooney won't sign a contract with a team, he won't move. It's a two party thing, apart from when Rooney's contract runs down.

Ibrahimovic could have stayed if he wanted to, he just knew that Pep wouldn't have played him if he did. Completely different senario. Rooney wants to leave, and a lot of clubs want him. It's his choice at the end of the day.

not really i actually think Real is where he'll go i was just trying to say it is up to Rooney and not United they simply can't refuse to stop him going if say he wanted to go to City - they couldn't risk losing him for peanuts

i'm sure Fergie would see it like that 30mill to real better than 100mill from City - but he doesn't own the club and he doesn't have a £750 million debt or whatever the absurd figure is now

I'd be looking at Van Der Vaart before Essien; at a similar price you'd much rather have the guy who's playing behind the lone striker than a defensive mid.

Also consider the lower priced options of Adam, N'Zogbia and Brunt. They probably offer better value than Essien, and if I had your team, I'd want the money for Arshavin > Fabregas

Not bad, quite a nice spread of funds across your whole squad. Can't remember why Toure didn't play last week... you should monitor that situation and the Arteta injury concern before you make any transfers, but generally I don't see any urgent transfers needed.

I am so curious to know why there are some managers who seem to be completely out of their minds, transferring in players who have not played this season and will not play for a very long time.
Take Jack Collison 5.5mil midfielder (West Ham) for example. How have 7 people transferred him IN this gameweek?!! He hasn't played a game all season and is red flagged with a knee injury, expected back January.
Are there competitions for the least amount of points going around? Or do some people just log in drunk and transfer in random players from the list?

There are games where you play to have the most duds.

      It's actually quite fun.

I might do it one year.

Rules are that you must use your entire budget at all times, and no transfer hits are allowed.

The team with the lowest score wins.

          Cole, Alex, Terry, Ivanovic

Bosingwa is the obvious threat. He could take Ivanovic's place, but since he's been out for so long, I reckon that Ivanovic will play the majority of the matches.

    1) Any transfers worth thinking about?
    2) Who to Play / Bench?

    Hart, Foster
Alcaraz, Oshea, Coleman, A Cole, Williamson
    Nani, Malouda, VDV, Bale, Barton
    Drogba, Berbatov, Carroll

First year player looking for some suggestions with what to do with my team for this week.

    Robinson, Schwarzer
    Hangleland, Williamson, Toure, Elmohamady, Dann
Adam, Bale, Gerrard, Malouda, J Henderson
    Carroll, Berbatov, Drogba

Not sure what to do. I would like transfer Henderson out, but I am not sure who. Also am thinking about upgrading Gerrard to Fabregas. Another downgrade possiblity is S Coleman.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks

If at all possible upgrade Gerrard to Fabregas immediately.
Consider How much do your keepers cost and if money can be saved there?
Is Toure justifying his price tag?
Who the hell is Henderson anyway?
How much do you have in the bank?

Can you do over two weeks
      Gerrard -> Fabregas
      Hangeland -> Coleman
      Henderson -> Nzogbia

Thanks for that. Brillant question regarding Henderson!

I have 0.2 in the bank so I am just short of a straight swap of Gerrard to Fabregas.

Definitely could do that 2 week plan. Schwarzer could probably be used for some cash as well.

Presently my team is as follows:

    Foster Hahnemann
    Williamson Alex Samba Konchesky Elmo
    Bale VanderVaart Fabregas Nani Albrighton
    Berbatov Drogba Carroll

I am thinking of doing Williamson to Coleman. But I am wondering if i should get rid of Samba. Im am guessing that Alex is not worth getting rid of yet. Any Ideas welcome

      Need more diversity in attack.

      2 Spurs, 2 ManU isn't good.

Defense needs changing. Samba > Coleman is the transfer I made this week. You have one day to catch the price rise as well, so I'd recommend that move.

          Bad fixtures.

He misses the next game, and after that he doesn't have a really nice fixture for the next 5 except Wigan at home.

I also needed the money for a move I'm planning for GW 10 😉

I am certain the secret move involves Fabregas. For the time being I am satisfied with 2 Man Utd players, especially in view of the Rooney saga but 2 Spurs players makes me nervous.

I think i will end up going to sell both Williamson and Samba this week and giving Everton and Bale 1 more week to decide if I want to make the switch to Arteta but In my mind it is inevitable at some point

with a midfield like yours playing 3 defenders who are cheap should not be a problem especially since there are few clean sheets going. For you a 4.2 possibility is crainey and jara and maybe if you like a gamble simpson from newcastle who is returning from injury. in any case you probably wont play that player often

Nope. If he's fit though, I'd expect him to start. You never know though with Mancini. I've recently been planning my midfield for the next 5 fixtures.

      Nasri for GW 10 + 11

      Bale for GW 12 + 13

Works beautifully. Double home fixtures. It could really pay off, especially since those games are WHM and NEW for Arsenal and SUN BLA for Spurs. It also means that my front 8 is a balanced 4-4 in terms of home and away games.

Van Der Vaart, Nani and Fabregas I intend to be ever presents in my team.

I have one "differential spot" and a cheapie slot.

So by having Nasri and Bale at the right times, I double on the team with the two kind home fixtures.

Nasri will play. Where do people get the idea he'll be benched?

He's been arguably Arsenal's best player this season, and he combined well on the wing in the CL on Tuesday.

Last year, he was a regular starter when the whole squad was fit, and he's gotten even better this season.

              I'd lower on O'Shea.

Cole you can keep for a while, he'll play, he'll score good points, and you can watch for the fitness of Bosingwa. People getting him in now are acting too hastily imo.

Blackpool have decent fixtures, but has Adam even scored from open play? He's immense for his club, but I think N'Zogbia will outperform him in the long run. Both bonus hogs too.

Like you said Blackpool points (along with Adam's FPL points) will soon dry up.

Insane overall score mate, congrats. So you'd agree N'Zogbia is the better choice? Sorry, just need that extra push ya know haha

          Yes.

          N'Zogbia is the better choice.

He started at 6.0 compared to Adam's 5.0 and there's a reason for that.

He scored really well last season, and when he's focused on playing and not sulking, he's a very consistent player.

adam is as influential at blackpool as nzogs at wigan, he is also penalty taker and all their play goes through him..

nzogs goes in and out of games cause of his stinking attitude.
i think they will score around the same over the season just imo...

Adam is still a very good choice. There's not much in it, and on current fixtures, I'd go for him, but this is Blackpool we're talking about, and if it's for the season, I can't see him keeping up this level of form.

We're only 8 games into the season. There are 30 left. Injuries will come, their squad will be stretched, and as I said earlier, they will hit a spell this season where they won't win or maybe even get a point from 5 or more games.

They're running on surprise factor, and it only takes one manager to work out a way to shut down Adam or maybe Grandin, and the team will start losing. Maybe managers will adopt a more defensive formation to deal with Blackpool.

It won't last, that's all I'm saying. Adam might continue to score well, but he won't score as well if his team aren't winning.

                Alright great points mate thanks
Wigan is somewhat more consistent than Blackpool, so I think I'll go with N'Zogbia because he should also score more consistently.
The thing is he can still score high and even get bonus when his team loses
And has SOME talent around him

Aside from Adam, Blackpool don't have much
But they do have decent fixtures...ahhhhhhh

                    lol that's true.

I'd actually get Adam in now. FPL isn't about season performers, it's about getting the players who are scoring points in at the right time.

He'll go up in price faster, he has nicer fixtures, and you can always swap the two later.

    Hi Guys
Just curious about your opinions about these changes..
    My current team

    foster/carson
    dann/alex/samba/osea/faye
    nani/malouda/etherington/toure/adam
    drogba/tevez/berbatov

i want to get in fabregas next week...

    so im thinking..
    a) Malouda and berbatov -> fabregas and odemwingie

b)Malouda and berbatov -> fabregas and odemwingie
which lets me bring in either nasri or walcott for toure the week after

c)Malouda and berbatov -> fabregas and varney
which lets me bring in VDV for toure the week after

d)Malouda and alex -> fabregas and coleman
    Thanks guys....

first year player question about substitution rules:

I know it's not very sporting to consider this, but does the game allow you to end up with a 2-5-3? Say you were to play a guaranteed hurt player or a 3.9 loser as one of your defenders, knowing he will almost always likely get subbed and then set your order to bring in a forward or midfielder in his place?

Does anyone/has anyone done this before? Is it a common little trick or looked at as more of a douche move?

Rules won't allow it. You always need to have 3 defenders. Computer will always sub in a 3rd defender even if he did not play. So you will score 0 for that player.

Game doesn't allow you too unfortunately
You'd be stuck with 10 players (even if you had 1 mid/forward who played on your bench)

you cant end up with 2 defenders...it will just put in who has played at all, if not then it will leave 3 defenders on for definite...

Bale without VDV equals good scores. With VDV, not as good obviously.

If only that were true in fantasy terms too. I have Bale and not VDV so I'd be assured of good scores!

Did not expect him to do so well vs milan(Although he has hit some form in domestic)

CRon scored me a total of 4pts(at cost of 12.5m) in first 2 games. So he was history.

hehe, no way i'd do that trsfr in fpl though.

I still have Bale but I almost made the transfer to VDV just happens that I don't have enough money so I hope he scores another hat trick soon. 🙂

Agreed TM, the shape of Spurs is different with VDV in, it has changed Bale's output and BP claim. He hasnt been scoring in prem much, and I still think VDV better option, esp for BP now. Shame Bale not hit a hat-trick like that in prem, if he had that one week+3BP I would assume would have him near the top of mid again and would make his returns more reasonable. However, whole at first seeing that last night disrtturbed me, Im fine with it, he wont score many hat tricks this season and one in Champo league is fine!

(PS guess what change i did this week..maybe Im trying to convince myself!)

    I need some comments pls:
I already transfer in N Zog for Yaya Toure so my next move will cost me 4 pts. My def.now are:Elmo, L Young, Konch, Jones and Foley
    1) Who should I replace for Coleman ? Jones or Foley
    2) I have .8M left and if I made this move with Foley I'll end up with .4 m left , Will this enough for me to transfer in Fab for Gerrard next week ? (Gerrard is at 11.5 M for me)
Do I need any transfer this week at all? I haven't doing too well lately just been up and down the ranking so far 🙁

      Morning Neo,

      1. Should you not replace L young? I thought he was inj? Otherwise Foley as Wolves have some cr*p fixture coming up, starting this week. I can see a 5-0 mauling vs Chelsea.

2.As far as I know Fab is protected at the moment and I cant see his price increasing before gw10.

          1. I won't bring in Coleman this week. Everton is away against Spurs and I can see a 1-0 or 2-0 win for the home side.

          2. Not Fabregas this week. He is away to City while Gerrard is home against Rovers. Bring Fab in next week.

Agree with inalize neo, L Young could go too. Foley has poor fixtures but Im keeping him as he's a 4.0 def who will start and other than Jara and Simpson when back here arent many of them!Good bench fodder. Id sell Young if any, but Coleman isnt nailed on yet...so bear in mind it would be a hit for a gamble!....

Thanks Toon Tom, so If I decided to trade Young out I'll endup with 5.7 M to choose for do you have any good trade for 5.7 m , I need to spare .4 m for my Fab transfer next week.
I also not sure about Carroll situation, is he ok to start,? What do you think as a Toon army?

Carroll is fine as far as I know for the min, it may become an issue though.Roger C has set it out for you above really. Looking logically (and this is no guantee but best we have!) I wouldnt get Coleman this week-Spurs at home is a tough game, even with Champo league prior to it.

Fabs is prob worth waiting till next week-I am doing so.Its up to you, but City are hard to break down, they played 3 holding players vs us at home so I can assume they'll just shut up shop to Arsenal! I would just hold on this week and trade Young and Gerrard next week for Fabs and another?

well since you'll be wanting fabs in next week for gerrard, that's one transfer and i'd bring in coleman for foley. whether you do it now or later is up to you, but i'd try to avoid the hits and just bench him and young until you transfer them out and play with 3 defenders.

I'm leaning toward Foley too. Just happens that I need to make sure that Gerrard price not to fall and Fab price not to rise more than .1M then I'll be safe for Ger>fab transfer. Thanks for your input mate.
