Gareth Bale has just minutes ago sealed a superb Champions League hat-trick against the current holders in the San Siro. In doing so the Welshman added another chunk of millions to his value as his burgeoning reputation grew on the European stage. For Fantasy Managers, most notably the thousands that recently shifted Bale from their squad, the hat-trick in the 4-3 defeat for Spurs offered a chilling reminder of his explosive abilities.

The goals mean nothing of course, not least to the outcome of the match. There will also be no rewards for Bale owners this evening. There’s little doubt however, that those who kept the faith with the Welshman will be feeling rather cozy at the prospect of Bale translating that display on a domestic stage.

Bale’s returns have been disappointing of late; the belated reward of the assist for Tom Huddlestone’s goal was his first points for six matches. With Rafael Van der Vaart flourishing alongside him for just a million or so more, it’s little wonder that we’ve seen significant sales. Almost 100,000 managers have got rid since Gameweek 7; they will be fidgeting rather uncomfortably after tonight’s display.

A testing match-up with Everton beckons at the Lane this weekend and tonight’s showing will surely have removed any threat of Bale being rested or indeed shifted to left-back. Having torn apart one of Europe’s best defences, there’s surely no way we will see Bale at full-back in the immediate future. That’s got to be good news for Fantasy Managers or at least those who have resolved the Bale vs Van der Vaart issue in their heads.

There will doubtless be more on that little puzzle to come on these pages, for now we may have just seen the first FPL bandwagon prompted by a European tie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Looking at my team, I feel that I don’t need to trade but I had 2 freebies so decided to take out useless Boyata and bring in bandwagon Seamus. I’ve still got Stevie G but will probably trade him out for Fab sooner or later.

    Cech (Carson)
Baines, A Cole, Vidic (Gohouri, Coleman)
Arteta, Yaya Toure, Gerrard, Nani (Adam)
    Berbatov, K Davies (Carroll)

Why are you doubling up on Coleman AND Baines? Risky.

You an Everton fan I assume. You need Drogba/Fab IMO. Yaya to defensive.

      I would have done YY-->NZog

that's a very expensive defensive line up. I'd ditch Vidic and Baines and use Coleman and maybe get Elmo or similar in. That should free up cash to strengthen your forward line up with Drogba/Tevez.

I watched MOTD on Sat night and he played well but I knew he had got nothing (assist later granted yes), robbed my little bro's laptop and saw on total FPL that Bale was to fall and VDV rise, plus VDV got 2 BP and seems he didnt play very well. What a ridiculous over-reaction to Bale. Yes he is an exciting talent but he has only actually started doing it in the last 6 months (thanks to 'arry stifling him for a few years).

Whilst I am on my 'arry rant, it amazes me how he gets away with nearly ruining Darren Bent, who clearly is a top player and someone Spurs are crying out for. All we hear is how amazing 'arry is but there are so many top players that are left to rot and treated terribly. In fact Bent is starting to look a better player than Defoe now he has escaped.

Modric could probably shoot 'arrys pet cat and still get picked every week.

I must admit that I'm a bit nervous after trading in VdV for Bale last Saturday to avoid losing too much money. But don't let us get carried away. Yes, Bale is a great player who will score many points. But the question for me is, will he get more than VdV - as I don't want two Tot mids - and I have to say No. VdV is a selfish player who shoots every time he gets the ball and has developed into a BP magnet in a very short time. Two of the three goals were deep into OT that he prob wouldn't have scored if the scoreline was 2:1. Anyway, I'll kick myself if he does it again agaist EVE 🙂

    Hello m8s.
I am really struggling here and I would like your opinions.

    Team link: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/entryhist.mc?id=3370

If you can't see it, my team is
    Foster, Jussi
    Jagielka, Konchesky, Elmo, Jones, Jara
    Cesc, Nani, VDV, Malouda, Albrighton
    Drogba, Berbatov, Carroll
    0.3 in bank

I am seriously thinking of making Jagielka -> Coleman and Albrighton -> Adam swaps for -4 point hit. I wanna do it now, before their prices go up. This way I may be able to get Kolarov/Bosingwa in after a week or two. Does it worth the hit? What do you think?

really struggling? fail to see how, u have arguably the strongest midfield 4 that one can get, ur defence is not too cheap and not too expensive and u have a good keeper combination. if u do the transfres, i dont see how that allows u to get kolarov/bosingwa cos they are quite a lot more than ur most expensive defender which will be konchesky

If it was FPL rules he would get 2 assits yesterday so it was just bad luck. I fancy chances of him in the away fixture. My striking force is Messi, Eto and Huntelar (to bad Raul got the goal, but he is in form I am keeping him). What is your striking force? Anelka was excellent but the Drogs is back, so he is not that good option. I don't konw how your team looks like so I couldn't tell for sure. I could suggest Valencia striker. Eto in the form he is playing is a must IMO. He got me a haul of points last GW with captaincy.

Nice team. I think u need two new strikers and beware the team that u r choosing cause when safe, the teams tend to rest key players in the last fixtures. Its still early to make transfers but I would suggest Drogs or Ibra for Anelka and maybe Almeida as a cheap striker. Arshavin could go in order to make cash, there are plenty of options and why not knee jerking with VDV 🙂

Cheers and ask me in two week time then we will have more info.

I would suggest making 3 transfers per GW (even more if u are inspired), cause they are relatively cheap it will cost u minus 4 pts and u r increasing your chances in getting the big hauls. All the big differential points are scored in the group phase, cause after the budget is huge and u can afford a lot, plus all the teams are quite similar later in the knockout phase and trust me is very, very difficult to catch 10pt lead.

                  Cheers and good luck.

I was just going to post a well done to your guys from a Celtic fan ssscottyyy but then saw the comment "bring on the manky mob" towards the end of your original post. What age are you? I wont get in to a whole Celtic are better than Rangers diatribe with you but those sort of comments are immature at best and enciting at worst.

I still say well done to Rangers (for all their decent fans, some of whom I am lucky enough to call friends) but it is tinged with regret now.

Still each to their own I suppose.

Don't think I can drop him after last nights performance. Not yet anyway.

Might have a change of plan with a 4 point hit over 2 weeks and get Fabregas for Yaya instead of Malouda, keeping Bale.

      It basically boils down to...

      a) Hart Enrique Yaya VdV
      b) Al-Habsi Simpson Malouda Bale - 4 points

      Thoughts?

I meant that his output will decrease like Owen. He has everything in Utd. He should finish his carrier there. But he started asking for more money 300 000 per week, so its not about football anymore. First time u lose your compass, that is it. The mindset is very important for football.

He had his 3 goals in the CL, now he won't soon score again. Everybody remember all the Paddy Power odds for player after scoring tree goals? 🙂 I bet he'll score against Utd.

Look at it this way. Most games, Chelsea will keep a clean sheet, so Cole has good odds to get at least 6 points a game. Add on bonuses and assists as well and you get quite a tidy score.

Fabregas has to do a lot more to get those same 6 pts that Cole is in line to get most weeks just for turning up.

The other way to look at it is, whose output is more replaceable? Scouts have said on here already that there are cheaper MF'ers who have already out scored Fabs on the same weeks that Fabs has played.

Clearly, having Cole and Fabs is the ideal solution. But if that's not possible due to budget then don't just leap on the Fabregas bus because that's what everyone else on here will tell you to do.

Cashley "feels like a 40 year old" some mornings, so he too may be rested when Chelsea have three Prem games in a week (which isn't far away), so who knows.

I for one would do option B if the Cole AND Fab option nomar suggested isn't available to you.

True Nomar - but Alex as well will get them same 6 points (assuming he plays - which I think he will).

Arshavin, although frustrating to watch (Im a gooner) still manages to pop up with assists and goals.

On the flip side Fabs gets bonus points for putting his shinpads on and is on pens with no RVP.

hmmm, thnaks for your input guys...I will ponder on this for a while...

Sorry for delay in replying but hard to do this when in work. Not sure if I'm related to in like flynn, I'll have to check that out.

I'm not saying don't get Fabregas because that would be hypocritical of me since i'm probably going to get him next week. Like you all said, the ideal scenario is to have them both if it all possible. I don't have either (got Alex) but may well downgrade Hart to get Cashley in and swap Malouda for Fabs.

However, if its a straight choice between the 2 and he doesn't have or want Alex then I could understand going for Cole in that scenario.

Wolves are so muck that i'd consider captaining Cole this week, especially if Drogs and Malouda are out.

Not that it matters a great deal, I'd expect 2points maximum but if Alex doesn't make it:

Williamson at West Ham (goes up for set pieces and gets stuck in) or Jones at Anfield (against a curently toothless attack).

    I'm leaning towards the former...

On the bad side is that I was scouting for midfielder around 7m and the short list was Schweinsteiger, Bastos and Bale. I went for the worst choice, but it was bad luck with that own goals. If it was FPL rules he would have 2 assist 🙂 First he was awarded one goal and one assist, but they were removed after. To bad. On the plus side he got yellow 🙂 🙂 But never mind he will give me back the points in the next fixture 🙂

Ok here's the full defence...only want to play three.

        Jara - Konchesky - Elmohamady - OShea - Enrique

Dropping Elmo and OShea just seems wrong. the stoke game is exactly the type of game where OShea excels...I anticipate clean sheet and assist/goal from the irishman there.
