Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch

Chatter in the Fantasy Football Scout halls this week has been constant and along the lines of;

“I’m thinking of bringing Fabregas in, I need to take a hit, who should I get rid of?”

Given the fact that second placed Arsenal are at home to struggling West Ham, this comes as no surprise. The incredibly influential Spaniard would be an obvious pick for captain given his ability to unlock defences with his passing and goal scoring prowess.

However, todays game against Manchester City would have given a number of managers food for thought about whether tinkering with their side and taking hits to get Fabregas in is really essential after the performance of fellow Arsenal Midfielder Samir Nasri.

The Frenchman has scored 7 goals in 11 games this season in all competitions with 3 assists. 4 of those 7 goals have come in the league with his solitary league assist in todays game, setting up Nicholas Bendter for Arsenals third goal. In the FPL game, he has also picked up 9 bonus points this season which perhaps understates his contribution.

Whilst there is no doubting that long term Fabregas offers a greater potential return, at £7.4m Nasri is 4.4 million pounds cheaper than Cesc, and for those without a limitless pot of money or not wanting to take out other potential big hitters such as Malouda or Nani he could provide an alternative source of points.

One factor in the thought process may well be the penalty miss by Fabregas. Whilst there is little to suggest that this miss will see the Spaniard removed from penalty taking duty, given the fact that a number of Nasri’s goals this season have come from the spot in Fabregas’s absence, a number of people will keep a keen eye on the Arsenal penalty taker should the recent flurry of Arsenal penalty’s continue.

Away from the Arsenal game, Manchester United notched up a 2-1 win against Stoke at the Britannia. Both of United’s goals were scored by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. These were goals 4 and 5 for the young Mexican in a United shirt and will only have added to a blossoming reputation. Two goals, one of which which was marvellously improvised back header (i’ve never said that before), will have proved to many that  he all the attributes required to be a big star at Manchester United.

In Wayne Rooney’s absence, this was Hernandez’s second consecutive start in the Premier League and with Rooney’s injury looking to keep him out for a further 2 to 3 weeks there is a good chance that the little pea will continue to get starts. Certainly if he continues in a similar form, as a short term solution at £6.9m, he appears to be something of a bargain. Naturally it’s nearly impossible to determine whether or not he will start but what does seem likely is that if he is given starts he’s a huge goalscoring threat.

He means in the three, as in not a winger - he's pretty much playing as part of a forward three at the minute.

Very valid point anyway - he didn't today, Arshavin came off so Nasri went out left, could be an issue in the future though.

No worries, i tried to raise the issue earlier but nobody seemed interested - if i remember correctly when they all played Nasri did drop back in to the midfield (where Denilson played today). I seem to remember Nasri alwasy doing pretty well on the wings (pts wise) but then being completely overshadowed by Fabs when they both played together in midfield?

Undoubtedly Nasri has come on since then, i think he's a quality player - just not convinced he can be consistent in fantasy terms playing alongside fabs.

I think he means central midfield, rather than on the wing. Mihir's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but it's a fair question.

Mihir - If Walcott starts, it'll more likely be ahead of Arshavin (with Nasri moving to the left wing, as he did today). Nasri's form is such that he won't be dropped, and Wenger won't play him in central midfield with Fabregas.

I don't think Walcott will start too many at this rate, Wenger likes Arshavin too much. Unlucky for him, as he started the season so well.

Wilshere won't start every game, Wenger will spread the minutes between him, Diaby and Denilson. Arsenal are also bound to get shitloads of injuries, so spaces for squad players to get a run of games will open up.

I wouldn't lose money -beyond the .3 he's dropped already- on Arteta... but given his fixtures and lack of Euro & Intnl distractions, I think he's a keeper. If there's still uncertainty about his fitness by Friday though, he's gone.

Your ship is sinking, Rooney is ours, we can buy anyone, we are the new force etc etc etc. I mean 2nd place (they were b4 the weekend) is a massive massive achievement for them. So much arrogance from fans who haven't won anything since 1976.

I wouldn't particularly want Bendtner anyway.. Wouldn't expect for him to start the next couple, or at least both of them.

You may just have to go with Fabregas, which isn't such a bad thing.

            Torres > Elmander/Odemwingie/Carroll
            Dempsey > Fabregas

Each of Bolton, Newcastle and West Brom have a prolonged period of decent fixtures, and the guys named are all much better long term options than the mighty Bendtner.

Depends how bad the injury is... I just wanted to know how much of a buffer he has to stop him from falling quickly if he's confirmed out for a couple of games.

If he is injured for a couple of games, then a switch to someone like Odemwingie is an option, and then I could upgrade my budget midfielders to VDV, Arteta etc...

Becoming more and more disinterested with Berbatov, but would love to have RVP in at 9.5. Shame he'll never be fit though. 😉

I think RVP was left behind when they rescued the Chilien Miners. 2 weeks has turned into 2 months, shock!

If Tevez he is injured i would love to get chamakh in for the next few games but unless tevez drops a lot i wont be able to get him back in.

I agree, berbs has peaked, and not having VDV is a worry but i can get rid of Nani, cesc or malouda for him.

This is going to be hard this week, especially my team selection. I need to get Fabs in and to do so I'll have to take a 4 point hit and downgrade Torres to Odemwingie then I'm set on taking Bale out for Fabs.

Then though I'll have a front 8 of Fabs, Malouda, Nani, Dempsey, N'Zog, Drogba, Odemwingie & Carroll. Who the hell do I bench out of them lot, N'Zog would seem the most logical, but he's better away from home.

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm doing Torres to Odem and Petrov to Fabs, leaving me with the exact same front 8. Only significant difference in our teams is I have ACole vs your Alex. Dropping one from those front 8 is a very nice problem that we both have. Only possible problem is the "2 cheapy forward" strategy. But worth it for that midfield. PS I'm getting in VDV also in GW11 (for Dempsey) Enrique OUT Simpson IN frees up the cash for that.

Yeah, it's a nice front eight though. Know what you mean about the cheap strikers but unless you have the money to get Tevez as a second striker to Drogba then their isn't any mid-price options really, not enough value in Bent, Chamakh etc.

I literally can't wait for Fabregas to start tearing it up as per usual (closet Gooner haha). Looking through all my mini leagues, and I reckon that the strong majority of people won't have him in.

Malouda scoring this week was basically the best thing that could have possibly happened. 8 points was enough to seriously hurt me, and now people will have to think twice about a possible Malouda > Fabregas switch, which seems like an obvious one.

Nasri scoring well also helps a lot, because some people may just go for him as their Arsenal coverage.

      I love Arsenal!!

Reading around Chelsea forums etc. I'm beginning to think that I'm in a minority by thinking that Bosingwa shouldn't become first choice RB.

Considering you don't have him right now, I wouldn't touch him for at least another couple of weeks. The games against Blackburn and Liverpool will provide an indication as to just how much he's going to play.If it were up to me, then I'd play Ivanovic in both of our next two games. But it's clearly not up to me!

Generally, Bosingwa will play in the easier games and Ivanovic will get the harder ones. But the ratio of games each will play is pretty hard to guess right now.

not at all. they should have got a draw home to newcastle at best (tevez was fouled outside the area, if fouled at all for the penalty) then ameobi had a stone waller turned down. then against blackpool 2 of their 3 goals should not have stood, so another of their victories wiped out. other than that they drew at home to blackburn, lost to sunderland, drew very unconvincingly with spurs on the opening day. they beat liverpool well aided by a shockingly timed 4-4-2 by hodgson and nicked a 1-0 against an off colour chelsea thanks to the crossbar, alex missing a sitter and tevez's shot managing to squirm between cashley's legs.
i'm highlighting things to make a point here but there's no way they have looked impressive so far for the players they have

Theres 'what if's' and 'buts' in most games, you cant say a teams lucky because the ball went through the defenders legs etc.. From what i've seen they are a threat, especially now Silva is settling in. As for the money they've spent, im all for it if it makes the premier league stronger.

Football doesnt work like that, Barcelona lost to Hercules, Arsenal lost to West Brom.. They've had three years yes but theyve had different managers bringing in different players. Mancini looks as though he could be the one to stay for a while and in my opinion hes building a strong team. Chelsea spent big but didnt win it straight away, it wasnt till Jose came. People forget they spent a truck load in the past.

          Defence: Cashley
          Midfield: VDV
          Forwards: -

I still don't really know what to think about Arteta right now... He plays incredibly deep and Everton don't score that many goals. He's basically an upgraded version of Barry Ferguson that also takes set pieces. 😉

Would prefer to invest in their defence, and preferably not Coleman! Salcido > Jagielka is tempting in a couple of weeks time.

Can someone explain why it's a bad move? Is he not likely to start games now?

Away games with Blackburn and Liverpool coming up, and he may not play in either. (He wouldn't if it were up to me).

If he does play both of those games, then he'll be straight into my team after that. He'll inevitably score well when he plays, but I'm just not quite sure how often he will play... Fortunately the next two games should give us an indication of just how much Carlo wants to play him.

I could completely understand people transferring him in last week, but doing it this week seems like madness to me.

        Currently looking at

        What is better.

        P. Jones & Fabregas

        A.Cole & Nasri

The way I see it I'd love to get Fabregas, but surely A Cole and Nasri will get more points to help me justify overlooking Fabs. In a few weeks I may be able to go Cole to Bosingwa then Nasri to Fabregas anyway.

        Help....

Looking at options for getting in fabs without a hit at the mo.
my choices- in the order I prefer are

        A) O'shea > Simpson
        B) Bale > Guitterez
        C) O'shea & Rodallega > Dann & Odemthingie (4 pt Hit)

They all involve Fabs in for Petrov.
I know most of us are in the same boat but any opinions appreciated.

Just checked on the site and to have a home shirt, long sleeves with 'Odemwingie 24' on the back, with premiership badges, it costs £70.

        Shocking.

He is at 30% already. I can 70-80% say I will never get him this season.

Look at Mummy, already up 0.5 and only 14% have him. I think his rise will be even crazier.

Yep. They can only rise 0.1 a day no matter how many transfers they have. Each time they rise in a GW they need twice as many transfers in to rise again.
