Im Not Marshal Foch Im Not Marshal Foch

Chatter in the Fantasy Football Scout halls this week has been constant and along the lines of;

“I’m thinking of bringing Fabregas in, I need to take a hit, who should I get rid of?”

Given the fact that second placed Arsenal are at home to struggling West Ham, this comes as no surprise. The incredibly influential Spaniard would be an obvious pick for captain given his ability to unlock defences with his passing and goal scoring prowess.

However, todays game against Manchester City would have given a number of managers food for thought about whether tinkering with their side and taking hits to get Fabregas in is really essential after the performance of fellow Arsenal Midfielder Samir Nasri.

The Frenchman has scored 7 goals in 11 games this season in all competitions with 3 assists. 4 of those 7 goals have come in the league with his solitary league assist in todays game, setting up Nicholas Bendter for Arsenals third goal. In the FPL game, he has also picked up 9 bonus points this season which perhaps understates his contribution.

Whilst there is no doubting that long term Fabregas offers a greater potential return, at £7.4m Nasri is 4.4 million pounds cheaper than Cesc, and for those without a limitless pot of money or not wanting to take out other potential big hitters such as Malouda or Nani he could provide an alternative source of points.

One factor in the thought process may well be the penalty miss by Fabregas. Whilst there is little to suggest that this miss will see the Spaniard removed from penalty taking duty, given the fact that a number of Nasri’s goals this season have come from the spot in Fabregas’s absence, a number of people will keep a keen eye on the Arsenal penalty taker should the recent flurry of Arsenal penalty’s continue.

Away from the Arsenal game, Manchester United notched up a 2-1 win against Stoke at the Britannia. Both of United’s goals were scored by Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez. These were goals 4 and 5 for the young Mexican in a United shirt and will only have added to a blossoming reputation. Two goals, one of which which was marvellously improvised back header (i’ve never said that before), will have proved to many that  he all the attributes required to be a big star at Manchester United.

In Wayne Rooney’s absence, this was Hernandez’s second consecutive start in the Premier League and with Rooney’s injury looking to keep him out for a further 2 to 3 weeks there is a good chance that the little pea will continue to get starts. Certainly if he continues in a similar form, as a short term solution at £6.9m, he appears to be something of a bargain. Naturally it’s nearly impossible to determine whether or not he will start but what does seem likely is that if he is given starts he’s a huge goalscoring threat.

Any clue as to how far off RVP is from returning from injury?

I reckon him and Fabs for my double Arsenal men with Drogba or Tevez going!

        Not necessarily.

The overall leader has managed just fine without him.

It's definitely safer to have him though.

A Cole this season is like the house price rises of the last decade. In 2001 you thought wow, that's expensive and then within five years that overpriced £150,000 flat has gone up to £300,000 and so ends the chance of home ownership. I'm going to have to stick to the rental sector and the likes of Elmo and Bosingwa.

🙂 He is great that bloke FPL wise. I also like him as a player. But envy him as a man, dumping Cheryl Tweedy, wth?

He is the 3rd highest points scorer so far and only 8.1 (atm) madness if you don't have him, he has been a monster for me this season, had him from the start. Will have him until the end bar injury.

But the way I see it. Bily played about 5/6 times better than him, is normally a right sided player. Arteta should be back next week to take Pienaar's spot in the middle. Pienaar will go out on to the left where Bily was and Bily will go onto the right where Coleman was. I hope this won't happen but Coleman was poor yesterday. I will still start him this week but will be keeping an eye on him and Everton.

The problem is both players - Coleman for experience and Bily for confidence - need gametime. Bily lacked an attacking edge to me yesterday and Coleman didn't really emulate his performance v Liverpool and did have Lennon to contend with.

Jury is still out but I can see Moyes sticking with Coleman (I hope).

not sure about that with bendtner back. chamakh has played every game this season in every competition. i smell rotation, even if arsenal are through already in europe and he can be rested in the carling cup too

Bendtner and Walcott will probably play the midweek cup games meaning Chamakh and Nasri should be alright for the next few league games.

The CL is not important now as topping the group is all but done.

I think he is protected for tonight anyways so. Erm. Looking at totalfpl I would say around Thursday/Friday, hopefully Malouda rises before him. I doubt it but I can always hope.

Yeah a Malouda rise before him would be amazing, but I don't see it happening.

              That's very annoying.

Protection isn't really going to stop a rise anyway, so I guess I'll just have to get him early :/

Is Malouda even going to rise this week? If that's a yes, then I can wait safely.

Right Nasri was bloody brilliant today, really enjoyed his performance. My team on the other hand was shambolic - including Fabregas' eventful 2 and Carson's unfortunate zero.

Poised for my first genuine kneejerk of the year, and it's a doosy:

Coleman, Simpson and Nasri in - Bale, Phil Jones and Enrique out.

Madness? Sure. But this year has been mad. Chaotic? Too right. But my team is diabolical.

I'm prepared to negotiate on the Coleman transfer, but I can see him coming back to haunt me if I don't get him in. Thoughts?

      Unlucky few weeks Hazard.
Nasri-well with Theo and Bendy coming back from fitness, his place is technically not guaranteed but I can't see Wenger dropping him in the forseeable future and if anyone is going to get the chop- it's Arshavin. Verdict: Good Move.

      Simpson- No brainer. Verdict:Good Move

Coleman- Grey area. Largely ineffective at Spurs and when Osman is back he could find himself benched again BUT his fixtures are promising and he could well clean up, if he plays. Verdict: Go with your gut but I'm staying clear, for now

Yeh either would fit, leaving the bank empty. I know what you meanm it would feel like taking a hit for two defenders, one of which wouldn't even be a change of team!

All his prem goals this season have been at White Hart Lane and this weeks one was a tap in. Yeah I hate not having him. But it's going to stay like that unfortunately. No way am I going to spend 8.1 on a defender, it limits the options elsewhere. Hopefully they'll stop giving him charity BPs too.

In six games, Alex has 39 points. 6.5 per game.

In nine games, Cole has 63 points. 7 per game, and that's including the filthy BPs that he's getting.

I'm perfectly happy with Alex right now. He still seems like the best option value wise in the Chelsea defence.

But it's not just about that, obviously. He was one of our best players against Villa and Arsenal, and no one performed against City.

Obviously his scores are going to be lower against the better sides in the league, but he by no means goes missing in these games.

it's not good reading so far for malouda but a 3 game sample is too small to be fair to him.

Looking to upgrade one of my 4.0 defenders to Johan Djourou (Arsenal Defender) - is he set to play in the West Ham game?

Not at all. Koscielny is back, he was on the bench against City today.

A: Tevez and Malouda to Fabs and Chamakh, 4 pointer
    B: Dempsey to Nasri
    Which one and why?
A is the only way i can think of getting Fabs in so if you think of any other way of getting fabs in please voice your sloution!

It's a tough one! If it was me I'd probably go B and avoid a hit.

A if Tevez is injured for a good few weeks!

        Tevez > Odenwingie/Varney/Elmander & VdV > Fabs? I think there's possibilities there.

I still think Fabs will get the points more consistently over a period of time but I can see the massive appeal of Nasri for a good deal less in the transfer market.

Like I said, Dempsey -> Cheapie and Malouda -> Fabs. That way you get two (C) options. You wouldn't (C) Chamakh if you have Fabs, you wouldn't (C) Malouda if you have Drogs. Obviously if there injured then whatever I agree but.

      A) esp if tevez is injured. I keep hearing how malouda is on fire and agree early season he was .. though since then my points havent been showing it.

Asked this earlier but it was very busy with the Arsenal City game.

How do double game weeks occur. I heard on this site that sometimes you will pick a team before 11.30am Saturday and then that team will play the weekend and midweek or something before you can change?

    When can this happen?

Double GWs simply occur if matches have been postpones and rescheduled for midweek.

Tends to happen when the weather is dreadful so wouldn't expect any until December at the earliest.

When fixtures get cancelled. Last year Man Utd had a Dgw with Burnley and HUll at home, Rooney scored 32 points and most had him captain which got the 64 points. Most people scored into the 100's in that Gw. Good times.

FA Cup games taking over, League cup games also. P-P in general. If a game is postponed it obviously has to be re-arranged. So say the Arsenal Vs Man Utd match was postponed and had to be played on 7th Feb. Then it would go into GW26 with the Newcastle away game.

Continueing DogAntOnion's point below. There were a lot of DGW's last season (A lot more than others) so don't expect too many this season. The Rooney Vs Burnley and Hull was a one off. But nice nonetheless.

It happened a lot last year because of bad weather and postponments og games. Thats the main reason that a lot of average players did so well last year actually while pros like myself relatively suffered. Hopefully this year's weather isn't as bad and the cream can rise again

Just decided that I just need to have Nani - Fabregas - Van der Vaart - Malouda midfield. Who cares about the defence.

Haha, that's what I've been thinking.

So unsure though with which midfielder to take out for Fabs.

Currently: Nani Nasra VDV Malouda Adam

Yeah you have Nasri so it`s a difficult decision.

But it gives you confidence to have all those four. 🙂
