All the talk this morning surrounds the performance of Gareth Bale once more. The Welshman dismantled the Inter defence for the second time in a fortnight as Spurs ran out 3-1 winners at the Lane last night. Bale terrorised Inter’s Maicon throughout, providing two lung-busting runs and pinpoint crosses to set up decisive goals for Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Bale’s Fantasy owners will again be wondering when their man is going to translate his Champions League form to the domestic stage; one assist and just 3 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points in his last 8 league starts simply does not reflect the kind of player we’ve seen against Inter over the two legs.

Harry Redknapp was, not surprisingly, gushing again following last night’s showing against Maicon; a player who was voted the Champions League’s best defender last season…

“Gareth’s done it again and in both games, no disrespect to the right-back, he’s given him the most torrid time you could wish to see…It was just amazing to see him do that to such a top player.”

Ironically Bale has suffered a large number of sales in the FPL as a result of the emergence of team-mate Rafael Van der Vaart. Bales’s price has duly dropped from 7.1 down to the current value of 6.8. A run of decent opponents to come (bol SUN BLA) could yet provide the platform for improved returns, although his Fantasy owners will have course be relying on Bale being played in three consecutive league matches in the space of seven days.

That threat of rotation is a major concern for all Fantasy Managers when assessing their squads over the next week. Certainly owners of Van der Vaart will be worried. The Dutchman appeared to suffer a recurrence of the hamstring injury sustained at Old Trafford in last night’s game. He was replaced at half-time, having given Spurs the lead from a Luka Modric assist.

Looking at Redknapp’s lineup, we have to assess who, if anyone, will be given another three starts in the next ten days. The trip to Bolton could see some light rotation with further changes in the starting XI for the home clash with Sunderland. The likes of Jermaine Jenas and Wilson Palacios will surely be used as midfield options, while Niko Kranjcar could possibly be utilised to hand Bale a rest in one of the next three. Equally, Pavlyuchenko, Robbie Keane and Crouch will surely be rotated up front, with the Russian perhaps favourite to start at Bolton this weekend after his goal from the bench last night.

The Spurs defence could attract some Fantasy interest in the next week, with cheap prospect Alan Hutton present in our Watchlist rankings. Younes Kaboul is also an option here, and interestingly Harry singled his partnership with William Gallas out for praise in his post-match comments

“I thought Gallas was fantastic and young Kaboul is looking a real player. The two have come together as a pairing and they did great against top opposition.”

Again however, we have to consider whether Redknapp will use Sebastian Bassong as an option at some point in the next three league games. It seems likely.

We have to examine the Manchester United squad following their 3-0 win over Bursaspor in the same light. The injuries to Nani and Darren Fletcher of course remain the main concern. While United’s official site stated that Alex Ferguson “refrained from diagnosing the pair”, another report includes quotes from Ferguson that suggest that Nani has already been ruled out of the Wolves clash this weekend…

“Unfortunately, Nani has a groin injury and is out for Saturday… I think Darren will be out as well, so that part has been disappointing.”

As we discussed in our previous article, the loss of Nani would be a major blow to Fantasy Managers, while United would possibly face a run of games without the player that has so often picked the lock of defences so far this term. Gabriel Obertan and Bebe could now get the opportunity to translate some of the form they showed in last night’s tie, to the Premier League.

Elsewhere in the United lineup, we can expect returns for the likes of Rio Ferdinand, John O’Shea, Paul Scholes and Javier Hernandez for the Old Trafford fixture on Saturday. We will surely see continued rotation over the next three however, with testing trips to City and Villa also to follow in the next ten days.

Given that it’s the Manchester derby a week today, it seems most likely that Ferguson will look to rest key players for that game, making his lineup against Wolves unpredictable to say the least. With the confidence flowing through Mick McCarthy’s camp after their win over City last time out, United really can’t afford to take that game lightly; it’s going to be an interesting week and a strong Fantasy bench looks set to be essential.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Absolutely. If he doesn't get a CS, Drog & A Cole are likely to benefit from it. And if Drog & A Cole don't do well, there's more chance of a Pool CS. So win-win. Or lose-lose depending on which way you look at it 🙂

The problem with that is, GW12 is actually Wed night... I'd rather focus on maximising this week's points & take a 0.3m loss on Nani if needs be [i.e. if he's definitely back for the derby in GW12] Otherwise You could very easily end up having him on the bench for 3 GWs. Sure you'll save yourself 0.1 or 0.2m, but probably also miss out on 10/15 points while your at it. My bench isn't strong enough & really think Arteta will be fantasy gold for the next 4/5 weeks

Some random 3.9 keeper I had to get when playing WC back in GW4... I think it was to afford Nani/VDV/Drog/Cole/Fabs etc. my thinking was that I didn't want to rotate Foster & risk missing the odd jammy penalty save or extra save points he may pick up in the difficult away games. Its worked well so far but I'm screwed if Foster gets injured.

Sub GK is waaaaay down my list of priorities at the minute though & with a "no point hits" transfer policy, Soderburg is liekly to stay there for another few weeks at least.

That transfer is actually next on my to-do list, Krygiakos looks great value & looks like he will smash in a few goals from set pieces too. But at the minute I want to sort out the Nani problem & transferring in Arteta solves that, as well as not being at risk of missing out on the avalanche of points Arteta is going to get in the next 5 weeks *if* he stays fit

Malouda Yaya Nasri (Nani / Nolan)
    Chamakh Drogba Carroll

i would love to implement that stategy but this is my side if i do not make transfers:

      Foster (frul)
      Bosingwa, Munny, Colemane, Simpon (Jara)
      Fabs, Arteta, Adam (Nani, VdV)
      Berba, Drogs, Dembele

Both Bosingwa and Coleman risks of not starting and simpson away at arsenal.

Faced with this predicament, who would do atleast 1 transfer this week?!

Dont want to further rain on your parade, but I cant see Mummy starting this week. You absolutely need to make some transfers, the way i see it you could be left with 1 defender playing this week (Away @ Ars)

Stoke fixture good - Newcastle fixtures bad.

Transferring early in the week to save money often backfires. This week is a good example of why it is usually better to wait until Friday to make your transfers.

p.s. If a player is a must have with a full bandwagon going, Thursday might be acceptable.

Rafa Benitez wants to sign Gareth Bale. Of course he does the fat f***, he really has no idea does he.

If he went to a monster truck rally, he'd probably end up buying a set of tires for his Mondeo.

That's the basic point, but it's entirely abstract, coupled with the fact that priests don't always wear black.

It would be better to use a universal example of something that was always white for example, and actually existed, coupled with something that you might not normally find in that environment, but would be immediately obvious if you did see it.

harking back to his milk example, he might have said "some people can't see a turd in a glass of milk".

It's fine with me that you're all mocking Rafa and all but he's one of the most successful managers of the last decade. Cut the man some slack.

To be honest probably nobody will replicate what he did and win the league twice with another side than Real and Barca in 50 years or more.

Nah, I've never liked him. He may have won with an inherited side, but as far as I've been following, he's run Liverpool into the ground by signing expensive flops who don't gel with the team.

For christ sakes, he signed Aquilani to replace Xavi Alonso. What was that, £25m for about 6 hours of football?

I agree that he has a poor record on the transfer market. I think he is a good manager when it comes to getting much out of the players he has, but has a problem getting along with people.

Can't argue with his record though - a manager is hired to win and he does that quite a lot.

Although when Valencia won the league for the second time Barca were in a huge slump and Madrid had just signed a bunch of complete mercenaries who (having just won the European cup) couldn't be f*cked...

I knew that would come and although there is some truth in it it doesn't take anything away from what Valencia achieved under Benitez.

Last season Valencia were closer to the relegation zone than Barcelona - nobody will ever do what he did again. Then a CL win and a final loss and 2 points from the PL title? Good manager who lost the plot, I'd say.

Dilemma of the week for me is to Captain the Fabs or the Drogs, both have the chance for massive returns.. Drogba ALWAYS bags points against the big names (Yeah Liverpool are awful atm but still a big name!)Plus he hasn't scored in a while and I can feel his points ready to pop like a balloon inflating..

Fabregas easily could of got a brace against West Ham imo, plus with Arsenal looking so good at the moment he is incredibly likely to get a shed load of points if he plays all 90 minutes.. But the injury cloud looms over him.

HARD CHOICE. Just praying Wenger gives me some helpppppp !!!

Guys, have a couple of questions about UCL Fantasy:

      i) Should I replace my GK McGregor(4 pts.) with Butt or should I keep him?Butt is away to Cluj so who knows if he will or will not keep a CS and if he doesn't,who knows if he'll make at least 6 saves to match McGregor's score?

ii) Is it ok to captain Ronaldo and hope he outscores Messi's total of 12(6x2)?Malouda was a good choice but he's injured,Culio is the other option.

Most HD content IS upscaled. As of a few months ago, it was only Blu Ray films and a few specific shows that were actually filmed in HD.

I was going to get Elmo this week but I don't see the point now with all of this injury stuff going on.

Also, he has a nice game this week but after that they are pretty cack for a bit, out of position or not. Jagielka instead m'thinks.

These little niggles for the big guns couldn't have come at a worse time, ie three gameweeks inside a week. Team news is going to be more vital than ever this week as what Fergie and that old crook Harry provide us with could shape my squad quite differently.

It was tactical, but before the red card.

Great win for the Addicks at Swindon last night! Though I see Barnet are now bottom of League 2 and we go there in the FA Cup Saturday...cue "giant killing"!

Yeah, the "Parkinson out" chants were a bit premature. We had just been tonked 4-0 at home, but Brighton are tied-on certainties to go up this season.

And, I hate to say it, but I'm not sure a Barnet win over the Addicks is a giant-killing these days! 🙁

Was a tactical sub - Bruce wanted to get back into the game by giong 4-4-2 with Gyan & Bent & Elmo had been pretty rubbish to be fair. Was a blessing in the end, as it saved him conceding another 3 goals & losing another point

Anyone wondering when Tottenham will be able to keep a clean sheet? I have had Assou-Ekotto since the start but for a 5.5m def, (5.4 now) he is scoring shit all!
With bol,SUN,BLA coming up rekon i should stick or look elsewhere (5.7 to spend) - Jagielka or cheaper Coleman from Everton maybe? Is Coleman going to be a perminant fixture in the Everton back 4?

When Dawson comes back from injury probably. He is going to be some bargain at 5.0m

        Malouda - rotation doubt
        Arteta - slight injury doubt
        Fabregas - injury doubt
        VDV - injury doubt
        Bale - rotation doubt

My midfield must have everyone shaking in their boots this weekend...

Because the man has played so much lung-busting football lately. Hope I'm wrong.

Totally agree, but does Harry want to run his best player into the ground ahead of the Euro matches?

What makes this game exciting is getting a shit load of points from players you have masterfully transfer and budget managed to get in your team.

I don't find it exciting when they get injured, just frustratinggg!

If you don't like risking injuries, wait until Friday to do your transfers. It won't take away all the risk but it will significantly reduce it.

You can't have your cake and eat it. If you try to beat the price rises, you have to accept the risk that it will backfire and you end up with a points hit to cover an injured team.
