All the talk this morning surrounds the performance of Gareth Bale once more. The Welshman dismantled the Inter defence for the second time in a fortnight as Spurs ran out 3-1 winners at the Lane last night. Bale terrorised Inter’s Maicon throughout, providing two lung-busting runs and pinpoint crosses to set up decisive goals for Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Bale’s Fantasy owners will again be wondering when their man is going to translate his Champions League form to the domestic stage; one assist and just 3 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points in his last 8 league starts simply does not reflect the kind of player we’ve seen against Inter over the two legs.

Harry Redknapp was, not surprisingly, gushing again following last night’s showing against Maicon; a player who was voted the Champions League’s best defender last season…

“Gareth’s done it again and in both games, no disrespect to the right-back, he’s given him the most torrid time you could wish to see…It was just amazing to see him do that to such a top player.”

Ironically Bale has suffered a large number of sales in the FPL as a result of the emergence of team-mate Rafael Van der Vaart. Bales’s price has duly dropped from 7.1 down to the current value of 6.8. A run of decent opponents to come (bol SUN BLA) could yet provide the platform for improved returns, although his Fantasy owners will have course be relying on Bale being played in three consecutive league matches in the space of seven days.

That threat of rotation is a major concern for all Fantasy Managers when assessing their squads over the next week. Certainly owners of Van der Vaart will be worried. The Dutchman appeared to suffer a recurrence of the hamstring injury sustained at Old Trafford in last night’s game. He was replaced at half-time, having given Spurs the lead from a Luka Modric assist.

Looking at Redknapp’s lineup, we have to assess who, if anyone, will be given another three starts in the next ten days. The trip to Bolton could see some light rotation with further changes in the starting XI for the home clash with Sunderland. The likes of Jermaine Jenas and Wilson Palacios will surely be used as midfield options, while Niko Kranjcar could possibly be utilised to hand Bale a rest in one of the next three. Equally, Pavlyuchenko, Robbie Keane and Crouch will surely be rotated up front, with the Russian perhaps favourite to start at Bolton this weekend after his goal from the bench last night.

The Spurs defence could attract some Fantasy interest in the next week, with cheap prospect Alan Hutton present in our Watchlist rankings. Younes Kaboul is also an option here, and interestingly Harry singled his partnership with William Gallas out for praise in his post-match comments

“I thought Gallas was fantastic and young Kaboul is looking a real player. The two have come together as a pairing and they did great against top opposition.”

Again however, we have to consider whether Redknapp will use Sebastian Bassong as an option at some point in the next three league games. It seems likely.

We have to examine the Manchester United squad following their 3-0 win over Bursaspor in the same light. The injuries to Nani and Darren Fletcher of course remain the main concern. While United’s official site stated that Alex Ferguson “refrained from diagnosing the pair”, another report includes quotes from Ferguson that suggest that Nani has already been ruled out of the Wolves clash this weekend…

“Unfortunately, Nani has a groin injury and is out for Saturday… I think Darren will be out as well, so that part has been disappointing.”

As we discussed in our previous article, the loss of Nani would be a major blow to Fantasy Managers, while United would possibly face a run of games without the player that has so often picked the lock of defences so far this term. Gabriel Obertan and Bebe could now get the opportunity to translate some of the form they showed in last night’s tie, to the Premier League.

Elsewhere in the United lineup, we can expect returns for the likes of Rio Ferdinand, John O’Shea, Paul Scholes and Javier Hernandez for the Old Trafford fixture on Saturday. We will surely see continued rotation over the next three however, with testing trips to City and Villa also to follow in the next ten days.

Given that it’s the Manchester derby a week today, it seems most likely that Ferguson will look to rest key players for that game, making his lineup against Wolves unpredictable to say the least. With the confidence flowing through Mick McCarthy’s camp after their win over City last time out, United really can’t afford to take that game lightly; it’s going to be an interesting week and a strong Fantasy bench looks set to be essential.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      Mummy will start/ should start.

No chance Bruce will play 4 4 2 with Gyan & Bent uptop and with Danny Welbeck in midfield.
Sunderland will have one less man in centre midfield if they switch 4 4 2 so they will need to have able defensive players to make up the differece.
      Mummy fits the bill.

cahill will cause problems in the air for arsenals defence and also has a good record at stamford bridge (remember an overhead kick in inj time)

I sold Drogba when he was out and then Tevez when he was. Not really regretted either, so if Nani looks bad (missing 3 GWs, say) then I'd ship him out without worrying too much.

I'm going to wait til the last minute for making a decision re: Nani. The problem, of course, is that if this is, picking a number out of my head, a 10-day recovery time, then that will be 3 games, and I certainly don't think that a 9 million pound player can sit on the bench for all of that.

Only got Nani of the two. Waiting to hear news on Odemwingie - if he's fit I'll just bench Nani, but probably transfer Djourou or Jara for someone who'll play in case I need 4 defenders or Elmo doesn't start.

I'm not sure why Mummy is now universally considered a risk - he lost the duel with Enrique, and Bruce was 2-0 down and needed to get a striker on, Mumster wasn't going to do anything up against one of the best young left backs in the Prem so he picked him to sub.
I think all the 'risk' has just been generated on here, I'm certainly not going to worry until he loses his starting place.

Darijo Srna keeps getting linked to Chelsea

"There is a difference between newspaper headlines and what really goes on. Maybe 70 to 80 per cent of the time it's true, there were talks, especially with Chelsea."

That would add even more competition to the right back position for Chelsea, a proper ballache. Though to be fair if he DOES sign he'd be an excellent fantasy proposition if FM2009 is anything to go by 😉

Bosingwa Cole A O'Shea (Coleman, Elmohamady)
Brunt N'Zogbia Nani Van der Vaart Adam
        Berbatov Tevez (Odemwingie)

        ...Nani's injured.
        Van der Vaart's a doubt.
        Tevez is out.
I have no idea what's happening with O'Shea but it probably isn't good, same with Coleman.
        Odemwingie's a doubt.

And there's 3 matches in a week next week.
        The joys.

Should I use my two free transfers for:

For a game or two? Not worth it, particularly when Park isn't the most prolific goalscorer, Hernandez/Berbatov are the only United players I would be looking at in Nani's short term absence, if Giggs makes it back for Derby he is the only other mid I would look at, but then having come back from injury and due to his age, he wouldn't play every game anyway, we badly need someone who can whip in a cross though in Nani's absence, that's not Park

Attila, will yuo really lose much money on Nani? You got him in at 8.5, so can sell now for 8.7. If his price drops just 0.1, then you can buy him back for 8.8. That's not a big deal.

True enough MnL, but in these recessionary times every 0.1 counts. Nah he looks like he might go up in price again (seems to be loads of transfers in this GW) if he does I couldn't get him back in. Which frankly would be a large ballache.

Nani won't go up again. He's only 27% and on 120 transfers out so far.

I think it's a risk worth taking...and is there more chance of him dropping in price with a GW deadline on Tuesday? Not sure how the transfers out work, or if there's resets. I'll probably sell and get him back in GW14 for the two homes vs Wigan and Blackburn.

Yeah you could be right. To get him in I would have to bin one of Nani, Adam, VdV, Nasri or Fabregas - so personally for me its not really worth it. However if I had a non-playing cheapie or a cheapie with poor fixture in the next GW I'd definitely get him in.

Some people are panicking because of this '3 games in a week'.. I'd prefer to say 8 days.. 6th November - 14th November - which is actually 9 days if you count them all.

I think some of forget they'll get a transfer too for each of these GWs.

I have Nani, Jara, Mummy, VDV... all doubts, but with Jara likely go out this week and the others benched, it's not all that bad.

If Bruce goes 4-4-2 surly thats more of a reason for Mummy to play. He was only taken off for tactical reasons against Newcastle.

Rubbish! Thats because they were 2-0 down. Welbeck is a striker, Elmo is a Right back turned right winger. They needed goals...

Everything I've heard says that Bruce is happy with how Mummy is performing. I'm pretty certain he'll be in the team.

I don't think he is to be fair. Just people clutching at him getting subbed early. Premature.

They have about fifteen centrebacks though so they should be alright.
