Having failed to domestically mirror his headline-making Champions League displays over the last couple of months, Gareth Bale has been a source of frustration for his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners. Today, however, the Spurs winger came good with an inspired performance as Harry Redknapp’s side put four past visitors Blackburn.

Bale’s two goals and an assist will surely be followed by the 3 Bonus Points, giving him a total of 18 points from today’s game, which is, incredibly, the combined tally of last eight gameweeks. Given that Rafael Van der Vaart had scored 48 FPL points in the same period prior to today’s game, this gives an indication of just how much Bale has been underachieving in the Premier League, in comparison to his team mate.

Spurs had scored just 2 goals in their last 2 league games at White Hart Lane and were booed off the park last weekend, but today, Harry Redknapp moved from 4-5-1 to his more conventional 4-4-2 formation, which will undoubtedly have influenced today’s scoring.

With Peter Crouch partnered by Roman Pavlyuchenko up top, Van der Vaart was moved from his role behind a lone striker out to the right wing, where he still managed to supply two assists in the home win. Consequently, this was the first home game he has failed to find the net since joining Spurs at the end of this summer’s transfer window.

Bale’s goals were his first since Gameweek 2 and is just reward for the 43.5% of Fantasy managers who have shown patience with him, despite the above-mentioned run of low-scoring. He now sits just 1 FPL point behind Van der Vaart, and dependant on the Dutchman’s Bonus Point allocation this evening, could overtake him by this evening.

Bale sits at £6.8m right now, though his price has been as high as £7.1m this season. This week will no doubt see further heavy investment in the Welshman, despite Spurs travelling to the Emirates next weekend for a North London derby with Arsenal. Clearly, however, Van der Vaart’s consistency is a more dependable source of points and with Redknapp changing the system from game to game, it’s still debatable as to whether Bale is the best Spurs midfielder to have in your FPL squad. His explosive skill and ability to score big, however, was illustrated in emphatic style this afternoon.

Depends when you bought him. I'd back Carroll to outscore him long-term; can you see big Johan getting 3 bonus points when Bolton draw 0-0 at home?

Hey TM, I got him back in a few weeks ago because I thought despite VDV's potential, the quality:cost ratio is better for Bale.

Season-keeper for me now. Currently I'm happy with Nolan, N'Zogbia, Bale, Fabregas and Tevez to stay in my squad for the duration barring injury or particularly bad fixtures. They're all players who I think are the best players at their price for the rest of the season. That means I can use my remaining cash, transfers and squad berths to get the most out of form and fixtures elsewhere.

      In theory.

I was all set on making a simple Malouda > Nani move (especially as he rises tonight) for this upcoming GW.

However, bloke in temporary 1st place (lol) in my main league took out Malouda for VDV and then put in Essien in for Albrighton right at the beginning of this current GW (ie before Essien got sent off).

Now I'm thinking that he is a pretty sweet differential to have even at this point of the season. Still leaves me with three Chelsea players though.

So do I just go through with my original plan, or do I ship out Arteta and then finally rid myself of Harper in a 4 point hit.

Midfield would once again comprise of Nani/Malouda/VDV/Fabregas/Adam.

    Thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

for those who are considering selling tevez,
    1) who are you bringing in his place?
    2) of his 5 big point gameweeks this season (8+), 3 of the 5 have come away from home. so although citeh face 2 away games in a row, i don't think that can be a massive factor in dropping him. i do however agree that there are some big problems at citeh at the moment

Before price rises tonight on Nani and Torres, is this worth 4 point hit? (Can't do it after price rises, I know the risks of early transfers!)

    Enrique OUT Simpson IN
    Dempsey OUT Nani IN
    Drogba OUT Torres IN

    Will give me ;

    Foster/ Hahhnn
    Cashley/ Simpson/ PJones/ Coleman/ Elmo
    Fabs/ Atrteta/ NZog/ Malouda/ Nani
    Torres/ Carroll/ Piq

    Worth doing? Thanks

Is there any strikers or defenders(not tevez or vidic) expected to rise 0.2 this week? playing the wildcard. I have already made money on all my midfielders so no point replacing them..

I have vidic, nani, carroll. cant get any midfielders because i have made money on all the mids i have so no point (and im keeping who i have). to do torres i'd have to swap drogba who i've had since gwk 1 so lose alot more than id gain!

Sorry this is a re-post im just trying to get as many points of view as possible before the prices rise. Who do you think will get the most points in say the next six gameweeks from albrighton, nzogbia, D.fletcher, song. Put them in order you reckon if you can be bothered.

I do hope the Arsenal spank Everton tomorrow. Fabs and Chamakh reaping the FPL points would be a welcome bonus.

I hope for a high-scoring score draw. 3-3? Coleman and Arteta to share the points for the toffees, and Fabregas to get a hat-trick.

Wouldn't be too happy with Coleman doing well having benched him or the draw.

I'm playing both Cahill and Arteta in Metro, with Fabregas captain, so I suppose I'd settle for a 5-6 victory.

Yep guess its better to play him at home and they always seem to struggle against stoke anyhow.

Just dont expect a cs run of 5 games with this side and especially when lucas playing.

Just watching the football highlights, and boy oh boy lucas seem dreadful every match i watch. Thank got his got a red, pity it wasnt a straight red. Like i said this morning the guy is a liabilty, just cant tackle at all. Having said that rest of liverpool seem lackluster.
