Arsenal’s miserable defeat to Braga was compounded by the hamstring injury to Cesc Fabregas which is set to sideline the mercurial playmaker and Fantasy favourite for yet another spell. The 2-0 defeat left Wenger’s side staring at the possibility of Champions League elimination, while over Stamford Bridge, Carlo Ancelotti’s side were far from convincing but thankfully disposed of Zilina without fuss or casualties….

Wenger’s much-changed lineup in Portugal saw Fabregas start in a midfield that also included Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere – all players that have been rotated in the Gunners starting XI of late. Nicklas Bendtner earned an opportunity as the lone striker, while at the back Wenger brought in Johan Djourou to partner Sebastien Squillaci. Emmanuel Eboue and Kieran Gibbs took up the full-back positions.

In terms of the impact on Arsenal’s Fantasy prospects, while the defeat will do little for their confidence, it was of course the injury to Fabregas which will resonate through to us Fantasy Managers. Wenger’s decision to start his skipper, a doubt with his hamstring injury before the game, backfired massively; the Arsenal boss at least acknowledged as much in his post-match comments

“As for Cesc, it’s a hamstring injury on the other leg [to that which has troubled him this season]. It’s hard to say how long he’ll be out for. He’ll definitely miss the weekend – we will have to assess [him] tomorrow. It could be two to three weeks…It is very disappointing because I had a hesitation to play him before the match started. I took the gamble and it back-fired on us.”

It seems likely that Wenger will likely be cautious with his skipper from this point on. He will surely want to avoid another recurrence and that could well prolong the absence. We’ve seen in the past how Arsenal’s injuries can stretch out in their duration, regardless of the optimistic updates presented by Wenger so perhaps around a three week absence seems the most likely outcome.

The responsibility on Samir Nasri, his second-half replacement last night, will now increase and he provides the obvious alternative for Fabregas owners looking to keep faith with the Gunners midfield. The likes of Wilshere, Walcott and Bendtner will come out of the game with little credit, while Robin Van Persie and Andrei Arshavin will surely slot into the weekend lineup at Villa Park having been rested in last night’s game. Like Nasri, they will now be expected to step up to help Arsenal regain momentum in the absence of Fabregas.

As a final sidenote, the medial ligament strain suffered by Emmanuel Eboue in last night’s game will likely keep him out of contention for a long spell – that will cement Bacary Sagna’s start and make him less of a rotation risk around Champions League matches.

Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Zilina was far from plain sailing, but in contrast to Arsenal, they will have been pleased with their night’s work given their run of league form.

Carlo Ancelotti started with an inexperienced side, handing opportunities to the likes of Ross Turnbull in goal and Jefrrey Bruma, Patrick van Aanholt in the back four, Josh McEachran in midfield and Gael Kakuta up front. There was a smattering of experience around them however as Florent Malouda and Didier Drogba both started. Daniel Sturridge also earned a start and he looked the most likely before he eventually fired Chelsea’s equaliser early in the second-half. Ultimately it was Drogba and Malouda were to combine to win the game. Starting in a midfield role once again, Malouda’s winner was his first goal in seven games in all competitions.

Saturday’s trip to Newcastle is likely to see Mikel come back into the midfield, while Alex will surely return to partner Bran Ivanovic at the back with Ashley Cole returning at left-back. The likes of Salomon Kalou and Nicolas Anelka, both used as subs last night, would also look well placed for starts. That would seem likely to see Malouda take up a midfield role once again with Yuri Zhirkov presumably still an injury doubt. Josh McEachran, impressive in last night’s game, drawing praise from Ancelotti, he is an option here but is likely to figure from the bench again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I dont really need to take a hit, got Adam on bench but am still swaying at bringing Cahill in for Fab this week to...

              a) Avoid price rise & drop
              b) Catch the WBA game

I should really be sorting out my defense, perhaps that can wait for next wks 4pt hit 🙁

Makes sense Evs, would like to bring Kolarov in myself this week but think it can wait. Might sound weird but Cahill has been so good it can't last forever but the WBA game is hugely tempting.

I think this comes down to whether you think Cahill will score more than Jarvis/N'Zogbia in the coming weeks.

For this week I think Jarvis may well pick up an assist and bonus points, so Cahill would need at least a goal for you to break even.

Tricky one. I'd do it on a free transfer, but not for a hit.

    About this second wildcard...

Because so many people will be using their wildcard in the same week, potentially we're going to have some players rising by loads in that week? Especially if there are some tasty doubles!

If there are lots of doubles i'm tempted to even use both my wildcards then!

Early transfers bite again!Took a 4 pointer to get VdV and Elmander in and now both VdV and Fabs are injured while O'Shea isn't getting a game and Barton is still suspended.Add to that woeful list the injury to Bramble, the man I brought in for Elmo last week and this really is the height of misfortune.

So,Fabs to Arteta for -8 and keep my fingers crossed hoping VdV makes it?I'm wary of that transfer too, because the two weeks Arteta was in my team,he didn't get his customary BPs and just got two 2s.Or should I do Fabs->Cahill instead?

    Hi there,

Can you advise whom to transfer this week out of the five in brackets?

    Carson (GILKS)
    Vidic Hangeland Jags (Williamson ELMO)
    Nani N'Zog VdV (Albrighton ETUHU)
    Tev Carroll Drogs

    Money remaining: 5.1

I'm thinking of leaving Albrighton and Williamson until they're back and doing one of the following transfers:
    1. Gilks -> Hart? Gordon? Foster? (and Etuhu -> Gamst next gameweek)
or leaving Carson in goal for 2 more GWs (ev, NU) and doing:
    2. Elmo -> Bardsley? Kolarov? Ivanovic?
    3. Etuhu -> Gamst? Cahill? Nasri?

    Thanks!

personally I think your midfield needs improving. most people play 3 in defence, and the three in your team arent rotated or injury prone.

I would take ethuhu out, leaving you 9.6m. that could be a Nasri, A Young, D Silva or budget players yaya toure, jarvis or pederson

      hope this helps

Well 18 points is a good score, probably wouldn't risk it if it were me.

Not really sure it's something that more opinions will help with though, just go with your gut!

Which 3 defenders would you play this GW from this shower:

    Samba (mun)
    Jagielka (WBA)
    Konchesky (tot)
    Jara (eve)
    Bardsley (wol)

I'm thinking Samba, Jagielka and Bardsley what ya reckon?

Yeah Jags is a cert and so is Bardsley probably given my choices. Will come down to Konch, Jara and BIG Chris for the final spot. I think Rovers will score at OT and Samba is as likely as anyone to score for us so he has the edge at the moment. Fancy Spurs to score against ANYONE at the lane.

Seems right, not a lot between Samba and Konchesky but Samba has more attacking threat.

cahill is off for 6 weeks from the middle of december. this will weaken the everton side, which means arteta wont have a good support. 1 or 2 for me but i dont like putting that much money into two players from the same club. spread the risk

With Fellaini back it might mean Arteta plays a mroe advanced role though which would see his output rocket!

I dont agree with the Cesc for Nasri transfer. I think that Arsenal's form could suffer from losing him. It is an option but I think there are better options such as

Malouda- not in good league form but 2 BP last week and goal last night shows signs of improvement, and with injuries he is a cert to start if fit.
Cahill- Going for 6 weeks middle of dec, so i would avoid
Silva- plays well but a bit of a modric in that he doesnt score/assist much
Bale/VDV- one or the other for me as too risky for the 2 of them
Others include young, downing, yaya, arshavin.

    Malouda for me

      Good reasoning

I like Nasri, he seems to get alot of play when Cesc isn't about

I'm currently Nasri > Malouda but only just

I deffo think Malouda can hit some points but not sure if he's worth the price tag any more

    Hey,

    Foster (Hannenmen)
    Bosingwa, Vidic, Coleman (Jara, Simpson)
    Malouda, Brunt, Bale, Nani (Fabs)
    Drogba, Carrol Odemwingi

    Anything i should desperately do?

Im thinking Fabs OUT to a Arteta/Cahill/Lee

hello guys. can anyone have a look at my team, give me some idea of what to do this week? i'm feeling fabs has to go, even though i've put him on the bench when he's been injured before. any ideas of replacements? i'm leaning towards arteta or nasri, but may take a four point hit to get both of them in.

    any ideas?

It depends on when Fabs will fall and if you've still got your free transfer. If you've got your free transfer bring in Cahill for Fabs, if you haven't (like me) possibly hold on for the new gw.
