Lets be honest its bloomin’ cold in Blighty at the moment. Whilst the majority can sit tight at home wrapped in blankets with a hot drink, many hardy souls still brave their local grounds to watch and support their teams whatever the weather. For them the inconvience of a cold nose is overidden by the passion for their team. However sometimes the weather becomes so bad that games simply cannot take place no matter how much the fans want them to.

In the past the problem was the fact that pitches would freeze over meaning they became unplayable. Advances in undersoil heating has meant that this is less of an issue for the majority of Premier League clubs these days. Indeed Fulham, who were notorious for not having undersoil heating, had it installed over the summer. One team who still live in the dark ages with in this area is unsurprisingly Blackpool who, if you will remember, had issues getting their ground up to spec for the start of the season. Unfortunately this could have a serious impact on our Fantasy Football teams.

Blackpool’s next three fixtures include games against Manchester United and Tottenham, games which would likely provide potential captain choices. In the past the concern for a captain would be if he didn’t play you would just get zero points multiplied to zero. Thankfully now, like it or loath it, with the Emergency captain strategy function this is no longer an issue. It does, however, mean that with the cold weather playing havoc with the fixture list, players should keep a careful eye on who their potential substitute captain is.

Blackpool’s fixtures are by no means the only one players should keep an eye out on. Last season for example Wigan Athletic, who had worked furiously all week to ensure access to the DW Stadium was safe for supporters, had to call off their match against Aston Villa after their undersoil heating broke down. Elsewhere clubs, worried about the safety of fans around the ground, have been known to call games off. A point Gary Lineker picked up on last season

‘It is not the fault of the clubs. Because of the icy roads and car parks, they are probably terrified of getting sued if someone slips over on the way to the game. It’s a sign of the times we live in. The irony is that undersoil heating has helped the pitches but because there is less common sense these days in allowing fans to decide for themselves if they want to go to the game, we still have a large number of postponements.’

Situations like this are uncontrollable and there is little more we can do as FPL manager’s than keep a careful eye on updates on Fantasy Football Scout and the local clubs websites. Caution over transfers, which is usually advised, is therefore even more important at this time of year.

I remember last season I was affected by the snow and it cost me my place in the FPL cup. I was one point behind my opponent in the league with Lee of Bolton to play away at Wigan. Surely he’s get more than one point and i’d cruise into the next round? what happened? yep, the game was called off. Its ok i thought, i’ve got subs to come in. Guess who my sub was – one Michael Turner who’d been sent off that weekend. I ended up losing the cup game by 3 points all because of health and safety concerns around the ground. The pitch was fine but apparently the roads weren’t. Thanks a lot Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council.

There were concerns around todays game between Newcastle and Chelsea and thankfully Sky Sports News provided ample updates on the status of the game. That was not before a number of people on the Fantasy Football Scout forums discussed and worried over the likelihood of the game being called off. There is genuinely no better place to keep up to date with potential games being called off than the Scout boards and the Scout Twitter though, so make sure you keep visiting to find out potential postponements.

All in all the advice is to keep careful attention to potential games which could be affected, Newcastle, Sunderland and Wigan have been notorious in the past for game cancellation as well as ensuring that you keep up to date with your Emergency captain. Fingers crossed no games will be called off, but at least we have the consolation of potential double game week in the future. Every Cloud etc.

    Reposting end of page fail:

Satisfying week for me, went up 200 places to 4,326 despite taking an 8 point hit on:

    Williamson > Vidic
    Fabregas > Nasri
Brunt > Nzogbia (did this one early before Fabregate)

    Now got:
    Foster – Robinson
    Vidic – Boswinga – Konchesky – Bardsley – Coleman
    Nasri – Nani – VDV – Nzogbia – YayaT
    Drogba – Tevez – Carroll

May need to use a transfer to sort VDV (Bale I guess) but would also like to do Drogba (to Rooney) – worth a hit? Ideally I would also like Coleman > Kolorov but another 8 point hit may be pushing it!!

Thanks. BTW one of the reasons I went for Nasri (it was between him and Bale) is cos I looked at your team and saw you had an almost identical front 8 (except Emerton instead of Yaya) and you were bigging up Nasri. As you seem to be doing quite well I looked at Nasri's stats - better points per 90 minutes than Bale!

He also had a farcical rotation policy that inevitably led to us constantly slipping up against sides that we should have beaten. He was tactically flawed, and cost us a Champions League final with his ridiculous substitutions against Monaco. Oh, and he won f*ck all in 5 years at the club.

Ranieri was one of the reasons we were in financial trouble, until Roman came in and saved us. He has a history of leaving clubs in financial ruin....

Finishing second in his final season was mainly due to the fact that we spend 120+ million in the summer, not because of Ranieri's genius. And we weren't even close to winning the league that year, but we walked it the year after despite spending a fair bit less.

That Champions' league was a really strange one.

Mourinho was sooo lucky Henry bottled it against you lot in the quarters, or we'd have walked it. And that Scholes had that legit goal disallowed in the second round.

Mourinho doesn't win the CL, Chelsea keep Ranieri, or sign up other European manager of the moment Rafa Benitez. Fine margins.

I reckon Charlie Adam will pick up another yellow next game vs. Man Utd. It's a shame, for all the Blackpool bashers you really can't fault his consistent performance on the pitch - regardless of points awarded by FPL.

    Camzy

The only differences between our teams are:
    1st mine, 2nd yours

    1) Al-Habsi instead of Krul
    2) Ferdinand instead of Cahill
    3) Alcarez instead of Simpson
    4) Emerton istead of Adam
    5) Tevez instead of Elmander

But I'm plummeting in all my leagues from 130,000 overall 4 weeks ago to 631,000 now.

There's an over-reliance on the Wigan defence (no cleansheet in last 8); Emerton didn't play when Blackburn pulled off a cleansheet last week and Tevez is bloody cold more than hot (Elmander much more consistent recently).

Ferdinand is also a one-dimensional FPL player - cleansheet points and nothing else, which for £6.6m is an absolute waste.

      lol.

I know my weaknesses. Alcaraz and Ferdinand aren't ideal, but they are passable for the moment.

Emerton is a better choice than most people think. He costs 4.3, and he plays as a winger for Rovers and chips in with the odd goal. He missed last week because of injury, but now he's back, and will play regularly. He's a perfect bench sitter.

Nasri is the man, back on pens (unless RVP starts next week, which is quite possible) and in cracking form.

Arshavin is Mr. Unreliable and bound to piss you off. You're like a beaten wife on Jeremy Kyle, AP, you just keep running back to Arshavin, no matter how badly he treats you.

Yeah, he was very good, but it won't be like that every week. Nasri is more involved and incorporates the playmaker and goalscoring midfielder elements.

RVP will 100% will be back on pens, he's easily the best spot-kick taker at the club. Both his power and placement is brilliant.

I can see some appeal with Liverpool's fixtures but their injuries to both Gerrard and now Carragher will make them even more spineless and negative.

Hodgson has now got to put his bias towards Konchesky on the back-burner as well after he switched off for the Lennon goal....

Not sold on Kolarov (yet); Vidic OK; don't know who you have for keepers.

41 goals and no cleansheets this weekend - midfield and upfront is the best place to have your strength.

Your GK combo does look poor.
i would disagree with JOMT. I think CS will surely start rolling in again for the better sides (apart from Chelsea).
My advice would be ACole OUT Vidic IN. I would get Kolorovr also., I'm getting him this week.

Yeah, my GK combo was only meant to last till this week really.......

I think I'll compromise: new GK and Kolarov + rooney and nasri.....

I'd get Robinson in for Krul.

            Ashley Cole out for Vidic.

            Drogba > Tevez > Torres.

See how VDV is - could be a route to get Nasri in. Keep Elmander & Carroll for a while longer. Bolton still have good fixtures.

If Pedersen is fit he could come in for Cleverly (despite the goal yesterday) - N'Zogbia covers your Wigan good fixtures.

                WOL bol WHM STK wba

7-1 yesterday but they were playing a class team (and they had 7 players out apparently). Fixtures look OK to me TK if they can get their chins off the ground...

So I'm thinking (after some suggestion also) that I may skip my transfer this week and play:

    Robinson (Carson)
    Konchesky Kolarov Coleman (Jara, Simpson)
    Nani VDV N'Zogbia Adam (Fabs)
    Drogba Tevez Odemwingie

    Thoughts?

      VDV is injured..

      Coleman is bench fodder..

Apart from that it looks ok but why are you holding onto The Hamstrung Kid??

Don't know how long he is out for, will have to await any news this week.

Coleman has a better chance of playing now Arteta is out.

Yeah but they play Chelsea next week...

Arsenal have some tough fixtures coming up and Fabs is too much of an injury risk in my opinion..

I was wondering how Johnson has such a tasty girlfriend when Hussey has to settle for a mule....

Mr. cricket is infinitely more talented!
