The penultimate results article for the third instalment of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, brings you news of who has made the grand final and how they did it. Of the two fixtures, one was closely-contested and one certainly was not…

Semi-Final One

tippman 78 – 48 DRP

Easing through to the final this week by a handsome 30 points was tippman. Even without Dimitar Berbatov he would have done the business, thanks to a ballsy decision to captain Frederic Piquionne. A fantastic score (despite a minus two point return from Sylvain Distin), earns Mark’s-conqueror a free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power, as well as a guaranteed £100 bet for turning up to next week’s final. That win for tippman shoots him up in the overall rankings to a season-high 4,759th. A welcome green arrow after five successive red.

Semi-Final Two

The Von 55 – 57 gooner dave

The second semi-final was a much tighter affair, with a combination of injuries and suspensions costing The Von a berth in the Grand Final. With a bench scoring a total of zero points, and transfers out accruing the same, a four-point hit was necessary for The Von. Unfortunately for him though, he was in the market for a defender in a week where every team conceded. Unlucky. Going through then is gooner dave, who will have to have the title of favourite as he is ranked 2,516th in the league.

So there’s two top-5k ranked fantasy managers in the Final, and that surely illustrates the calibre of performances required do well in this tournament, and whoever lifts the imaginary trophy next week will have truly earned it. So well done and good luck to both tippman and gooner dave. I’ll bring you a preview of the final tomorrow, as well a look at the 3rd place play-off.

Here Jamsie - I found something I DO like on Black Ops online - the little decoy grenades, never fails to get a few nosy parkers round to find I'm somewhere above them with a RPG.

hehe, yeah the decoys are classic.

Easily the worst part about the game are the little cars that blow you up, the whole time!! I've given up trying to avoid them now and just use Flack Jacket which makes it virtually impossible for them to kill you.

I just failed the contract about completing an entire match with more kills than deaths, because I didn't actually complete an entire match for 40 minutes. F*cking lag!!

not after Redknapp gave a post-match statement:

Immediately after Spurs' win over the Reds, manager Harry Redknapp admitted Van der Vaart's injury 'doesn't look too good'.

'Rafael has torn a hamstring,' he said. 'He's going to be out [for a while].'

People, i bought VDV at 7.8 and he is now 8.5, 4-6weeks is a long time to keep an injured player, but i am worried that i would have to pay extra to get him back. How much do we reckon he will fall in 4 weeks? will he fall at all, since he is protected? cheers

fabs has fallen 0.2 already in less than 2 weeks. he'll have fallen 0.3 by the end of the week. i think VDV should have a similar trend

rather totalfpl think he is protected etc. i know earlier this season nani was 'protected' but still went up in price after his injury. no one can know for sure as far as im aware....

Be aware that TotalFPL only says he 'may' be protected - that's why Frank the Code shows min and max - so we can make up our own mind and base our buy/sell decision on that.

Kolarov is a long term investment that I imagine he'll play every week, so the 4 pt hit will be moot anyway.

You may as well get him in sooner rather than later if you want him.

And, to be honest with you, the number of time on here that I've heard people say 'don't take a hit for a defender' who then goes off to reel off a string of cleanies and a goal or assist! I just ignore it now. That one is one my most hated cliches.

I'm leaning towards Tevez also.... even tho i think i've captained him the 3 out of 4 last GWs where he has scored 2 or less. All gd shouts and we've all seen captain choice is anyone's guess this season.

    Foster (Carson)

    Samba Konch Kolarov (Alex, Coleman)

    Malouda Nani Nasri Barton (VDV)

    Drogba Elmander Carroll

How does that look for this week? Already done free transfer of Elmo - Kolarov. Is it worth a hit to swap out VDV and bench Elmander, or wait til next week?

I am in a similar position, not sure whether or not taking a hit for a VDV transfer is worth it, keeping in mind Elmander's stats favor him playing away... Ok, Bolton's got MC but you never know.

Thanks fellas. Yeah I think I will leave it til Sat morning and only do another transfer if absolutely necessary (e.g. cancellations).

Just have to take the drops on VDV.

Next week is gonna be a nightmare though:

Alex or Coleman will have to go so I have 4 starting defs.
Drogba's horrible fixtures start so will be looking to get rid (and Tevez gets going on his nice run of fixtures, Rooney scores and starts increasing value, etc).
VDV will start dropping in value fast.

8 pointer may not be out of the question.

Bale of course. Funny, when Fabregas got injured I don't remember anyone suggesting Arshavin as a replacement, even though he is the same team, whereas he is mentioned a lot as a VDV replacement.

Another strange one: I can't ever ensisage a situation where I would wake up and think "VDV is injured, I think I get....David Dunn!!!"

i was also thinking about taking out coleman for samba but a hit for a defender is a bit dodgy.

my defence would be enrique/jara,kolarov,konchesky and leave the coleman trasnfer for next week.

I think Nasri is a decent VDV replacement.

The hit for the defender, it all boils down to what you expect back from the trasfer, you need at least a CS to break even in most cases.

However Coleman looks like he might have lost his place and if you are struggling to field a team it can be worth it.

I would leave it as late a possible though with all the weather concerns.

Possibly, but it's guess work and he looks first in line to be dropped as soon as people return from injury and suspension.

He also has Chelsea away next.

I would have transferred him out this GW if Alex wasn't a more pressing transfer.

I tend to think of my front 8 and my back 6 separately - try not to double up within those 2 groups, if you can avoid it. So Jones and Pedersen is fine, Jones and Robbo not so good (good fixtures, though, short-term.)

Sorry MnL got a bit sidetracked with the babes in the links above 😳

Not doing too bad now (you can see from my position in H2H), up to 13k after being in 89k a few short weeks ago.

Its been a bit of a crazy season really and I am just glad to be in the hunt in my leagues tbh. I don't see any formula for success this year. It seems to be that you need good defenders for a few weeks then good midfielders for the next few then good attackers for the next few. It has been very up and down as a result.

You'll pull it out of the bag again I'm sure, the cream always rises to the top 😉

Yep. If there was ever a GW to leave transfers until the very last possible minute, this is it.

    O'shea => Kolorov
    VDV => MGP/Dunn

It would leave my team this weak as:

    Carson
    Konch Vidic Bardsley Kolorov
    Nani N'zog MGP/Dunn Nasri
    Carroll Tevez(C)

    Subs: Howard, Elmander, Kelly, Fabregas

Is it worth a 4 pt hit?

looks like i might not be able to field 11 this week (depending on Blackpool game), considering 8 pointer to lose VDV Arteta & Coleman.

would get in Bale, Koralov and one of Arshavin/NZog/Cahill/Brunt. POssibly even Lampard.

Worth it? Also Im thinking Arsh & Nasri is probably too much arsenal midfield?
