Eight gameweek’s later and here we are, the final of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power. From over 1300 entrants just two remain, with “tippman” and “gooner dave” hoping to follow the likes of donnellyc and Jonty into our Hall of Fame.

Let’s take a look at the fantasy squads at the disposal of both our finalists going into the weekend…

tippman – Overall Rank: 4,759th, Squad Value: £102.6M

As is stands, tippman has nine of his squad playing away from home this weekend, and one major injury doubt in Rafael Van der Vaart. It looks likely therefore that selection and transfer decisions will be pivotal to his success this week.

gooner dave – Overall Rank: 2,516th, Squad Value: £104.9M

As for gooner dave, he has just six playing away from home, as well as Rafael Van der Vaart. But when you consider three of those six face West Brom, it perhaps isn’t too big a worry.

The main sources of talking points are when you compare both teams. Looking at the goalkeeping situation, it’s probably gooner dave that has a slight advantage. Both managers have Ben Foster playing at home, but gooner dave has the strong(er?) option of Paul Robinson playing at home to Wolves. Seeing as tippman could well double up on Birmingham clean sheets, gooner dave may well choose the safer option of covering that slightly by playing the former Manchester United keeper.

Moving on to defence and, somewhat surprisingly, Paul Konchesky is the only common player. Alex and Ashley Cole perhaps cancel each other out, but one could quite easily outscore the other by a margin. For me, it’s tippman that has the bigger selection dilemmas this weekend. There must be a temptation to play Gary Cahill in the hope of another bore draw, but that’s a bit of a long-shot to say the least. If last week is anything to go by though, defence isn’t where this contest will be won or lost.

So, onto the front eight. As I mentioned, both have the impressive Dutchman at Spurs’ a likely absentee, and other than that only Nani and Tim Cahill cancel each other out. When you consider both their cheap options have away trips, it looks like the key to victory will be how their respective expensive players perform. For tippman, that’s Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka at home to Everton, and Dimitar Berbatov in Blackpool. For gooner dave, that’s Carlos Tevez and an out-of-sorts Didier Drogba. One final thing to note is gooner dave’s trio of Newcastle players, compared to tippman’s zero. How Newcastle perform looks likely to shape how this final plays out.

Let’s not forget our 3rd place play-off also taking place this week, as DRP and The Von battle it out for a free £50 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing both our finalists the best of luck this weekend, as they attempt to write themselves into the Fantasy Football Scout history books, as well as earn an early Christmas bonus. I’ll bring you news of how the final played out next week.

Worth taking a 4 point hit for:

    Cahill>Nasri and Gyan>Tevez?

    Team is currently

    Jassk, Gordon
    Boateng, Alex, Huth, Rio, Foley
    Nani, Cahill, Nzog, Jarvis, Bale
    Gyan, Drogba, Carroll

i'd be surprised if it is cancelled. There hasn't been THAT much snow in London and with one of the most modern grounds in the premiership I would expect it to go ahead... that's my own opinion though with 0 years of experience as a groundsman.

It's not the playing surface, it's the loony health and safety laws incase some idiot falls over and sue's in the streets outside. The authorities should get a grip and stop this H&S madness. It's winter, people do sometimes fall over. Life cannot just stop.

        Gordon (Foster)
        Coleman, Bosingwa, Toure
        Nani, Bale, Nasri(C), Malouda
        Carroll, Drogba, Elmander

        Bench: Simpson, Ferguson, Foley

I have 4.4 in the bank and 1 free transfer. Which ones are more critical?
        a) Coleman out – kochecsky/kyrgiakos in?
        b) get rid of chelsky men as coming fixtures are hard – drogs to tevez/torres, bosingwa out?

Imm I’ll strenghten my defence this leg ‘cos I have feeling that Chelsky will beat Toffees at home.

Cheers MCH cause I remember last year they had problems with the roads to their stadium.

I hope there is no freeze.

BTW I am not from England and really can't understand why the games are being postponed even if there is little freeze on the roads. If needed the club can pay to some insurance company if something happens I am almost positive that will cost less than postponing the game and refunding the money for the tickets and paying traveling cost.

Its going to be access that is the problem for sure. Where I am its next to impossible to walk anywhere and obviously most fans walk to the ground they don't drive so that is where the problem lies. Hopefully things will all be fine Blackpool depends on how cold it have to hope it stays above freezing tomorrow night.

You don't want Drogba for this run of games, he hasn't scored in like 10 games. Also Balotelli will be a bigger goal threat than Tevez as Tevez will play behind him... Free up some funds.

I like the Baloteli punt actually but I think am gonna wait one more GW. Next GW for certain.

Drogba could be my inspirational captain and I hate Tevez 🙂 Really struggling for captain if Nani is not an option, I might make a crazy punt on Torres.

Torres vs. Villa may not be so bad! Thing is Blackpool can screw you over. It's one of the games where Rooney and Nani can get like 2 goals each or one where they get nothing. Much like their game at Hull last season.

Yeah, is a minor doubt for this week, but think it was just a precaution. We should know later today. Also wait till 11:20 before deciding on a Man Utd cpt, we should know if game is off by then...

not until your post have i even thought about who to captain in place of nani. cant do drogba, gave him a shot last week, almost as a motivational tactic, apparently he didnt get the message. dont want cahill, carroll, or elmander away. dont want to do a defender. so that leaves malouda and brunt. I may just be dumb enough to go brunt now, and put malouda on emergency. someone tell me Im mad right now before i leave work in 10 minutes.

          Hey everyone,

My team at the moment is:

          Foster, Krul
          Vidic, Bosingwa, Coleman, Dann, Konchesky
Adam, Nasri, Nani, Van Der Vaart, Cahill
          Tevez, Elmander, Carroll

I have 1 free transfer and 4.6 in the bank.

Some players I was thinking of bringing in are Bale/Berbatov/Rooney/Kolarov

Just noticed someone saying that Nasri is also a doubt for the Arsenal game!

Any suggestions on transfers would be very much appreciated!

          Thanks in advance!

If United game happens to be off I am in a bit of a pickle in all respects. Adam/Rooney(C)/Vidic/Nani would be OUT, and my captaincy, which is set to form would go to Vidic (OUT), then Nani (OUT) then Elmander (City), compared with value: Nani (OUT), Vidic (OUT) and then to Nasri, which I suppose is a better option than Elmander? So value it is!

ha okay, Nasri a doubt so it would go to Elmander ON FORM AND VALUE, Argh, you should be able to nominate your VC next year, its retarded in my view, I would definitely choose Dunn over Elmander....or maybe its better we can't nominate then! 😉

This is the reason I have gone for Tevez captain, if Nani doesn't play due to cancellation I will have Drog of Elmander neither of which I fancy.

Fingers crossed Nasri should be ok. Utd fixture being cancelled will be bad news for the majority of people to some extent but your situation does look pretty dire in that eventuality. Will the rest of your squad play?

I'm thinking during the winter period and particularly while the possibility of games being cancelled due to bad weather remains high, it's probably wise not to have any more than two players from any one team. Try to lessen the impact of postponements as much as possible.

I have Nani/Rooney/Vidic/Adam/VDV/Bardsley who all have doubts over their fixtures, pretty serious doubts I would say, but will have to wait and see!

I feel for you. Making the right decisions in regard to your team can be tough enough at the best of times, I hate the added element of uncertainty bad weather brings, you just can't plan for that.

As you say, just have to see how things unfold over the rest of the day and hope for the best.

          Who would you bench:
          Gamst Nani Nasri Bale N'Zog
          Tevez Drog Carroll

Leaning towards Carroll for some reason. With VDV out bale will hog the set pieces.

Yes,either Carroll or N'Zog,I'd bench N'Zog as Carroll always scores.

I wouldn't want to bench any of them, this is the problem with having a front 8 with no regularly benchable player.

Ha tell me about it. Id still rather have a good bench then a rubbish one, even if it can be frustrating having points sitting on the bench.

That's what I'm hoping for JU, as that's my most likely move as well.

You have enough to do Adam - Nasri. Id rather do that. VDV will probably be back next week.

VdV is out for a month according to many people.Besides,I have Bramble,O'shea and coleman in defence, all of whom will be going one by one,so better start with transferring out someone who is injured than someone who has poor fixtures.

I now have 3 BR players in my side because of their tempting fixtures but once their good run is over I will have to dump these cheap guys.

Nani is mine but then I haven't got Arsh. Nani is just Mr Consistent.

Cheers! I was tempted to try Arsh as he's my temporary replacement for Fabregas, and also because of the whole Bloomfield Road pitch concerns.

I think the way chelsea are performing recently, it is a valid concern whether one must keep Drogba. Gone are the days where one had 3 chelsea players, they're dropping in price which is good
                🙂
