Carlos Tevez’s future at Man City and his prospects as a Fantasy heavyweight have been cast in serious doubt by an incredible series of off-field events over the last 24 hours.

Tevez, who has notched 10 goals and 4 assists this season, has rocked Manchester City by slapping in a transfer request – a story which broke late on Saturday evening. This was then followed by a confirmation and rejection of the request in a bold statement from City, in which they revealed Tevez as the “highest paid player at the Manchester City Football Club” and appeared to cast blame on the players’ agent, Kia Joorabchian, insinuating that the move could be fuelled by the desire to agree a new, improved contract.

This claim was quickly refuted by Tevez himself, who issued a counter statement on Sunday evening which stated that his relationship with “certain individuals” was “beyond repair”.

Added to this, there are also reports suggesting that City had previously attempted to convince Tevez into remaining at the club by offering him a £5 million one-off payment – outside of his contract. According to the reports, Tevez turned this down, stating that money was not the issue; the club has failed to reject these claims.

It’s an extraordinary chain of events and a very public argument, which appears to make Tevez’s situation at the club untenable, placing his prospects as Fantasy option in severe doubt…

The striker is owned by over 25% of Fantasy Premier League managers who must now be pondering their next move with a striker who has amassed 94 points and holds a current value of 11.1 having started the season with a price tag of 10.5. That value dropped for Gameweek 17 in the light of his suspension that saw him miss the trip to Upton Park this weekend. There’s now the real prospect that it will go on declining, unless Fantasy Managers gain some assurance that Tevez will still be a factor on the pitch for City.

There’s clearly huge doubt surrounding that. While City’s statement stressed that “The door remains open for Carlos to be selected to play”, Roberto Mancini will be faced with selecting a player who, despite his unquestionable value to the side, is certainly troubled, unhappy and possibly demotivated following Sunday’s developments.

The City statement, and the retaliatory response from the player , has opened up wounds that could require significant time to heal before Mancini can begin to make plans for involving Tevez. In addition, despite stressing that Tevez has no ill-feeling towards his manager yesterday, there have been several incidents in the past few weeks to suggest otherwise. Most recently Tevez’s reacted badly to his substitution in the 1-0 win over Bolton.

Tevez was given “special dispensation by the Manager to take leave overseas” but has not travelled back to Argentina. The reports suggest that his representatives have stated that the player had been given insufficient time to go home and return in time for training.

Tevez has previously stated that his absence from his two daughters and his wife back in Argentina is a major problem. The player has even hinted that he may consider retiring from football in order to be re-united with his family. It is widely suspected that he will look to seal a move to Spain in January, in the hope that his Spanish speaking wife will join him.

For now however, City are insistent that Tevez is going nowhere. He is due back in England in the next 24-hours and further developments will surely follow.

Fantasy Managers can only sit and wait and hope that the air can be cleared sufficiently to get him on the pitch for the weekend clash with Everton. Right now that looks a rather unlikely prospect, but press conferences this week, prior to City’s Europa League tie on Thursday, will surely give us more to go on.

Tevez has been removed from our Watchlist player rankings pending tomorrow’s full refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Another dire week albeit fairly self inflicted. any ideas for next gw to get the ball rolling. Got 1.4m in bank and yes I know I’ve got an expensive defence at present…

    Hart
    Vidic Coleman Johnson Kyrgiakos Toure
    Arshavin N’Zogbia Nani Jarvis Bale
    Elmander Drogba Carroll

    Really appreciate any comments

Well you have already pointed to the fact that you have an awful lot of money tied up in that defence, I think you simply have to downgrade either a Liverpool defender or City defender, and my leaning would be towards Glen Johnson who I was thinking about 2 weeks ago but Liverpool have only re-inforced the fact that they simply cannot be trusted to get results, especially on the road.

In circumstances where Johnson is worth 7.1 plus, I would be downgrading him to a 3.9-4.4 guy, Simpson (just to sit on the bench) or probably Bardsley would be my recommendation.

I would also look to do Bale OUT VDV IN once he is confirmed as being back, I think the Bale factor is being cancelled out at the moment through the players own very clear fatigue, and the fact that all defences look to neutralise his raids as a priority.

Then I would be looking to shift Elmander, and I would be looking at Elmander OUT Odemwingie IN maybe.

Arshavin has done okay this year so far, but I still wouldn't want him in my team indefinitely, so I would be looking at Drogba OUT RVP IN (in about 2 weeks when RVP either is starting or we know what the story is with his fitness) and then upgrade Arshavin to Lampard, you will obviously need to move around some cash, but I think Drogba is too expensive, has lost penalties and feel that Frank will be responsible for their revival.

Yeah sound advice. Contemplating having Nasri and RVP when the dutchman is back starting. It will be a bit like the start of the season when people were deciding wether to have Lampard for Chelsea coverage or Malouda and Drogs and went with Mal and Drogs and that worked out anyway!!

I'm keeping Tevez. As it stands I'm happy to play all my remaining front seven. For me the issue isn't will he play, but will his replacement get me more points than Elmander, Drogba, Brunt, Nzog, Nani, Nasri or Bale.

        soon all will be mcdowell.

I know re strikers. I'm keeping Drogba, I'm keeping Elmander for a while and there's no obvious replacement for Tevez. Torres doesn't convince me. Rooney looks the best long term expensive bet, but I can wait a week for that. Maybe Carroll, but this week against B'ham doesn't excite me.

Strange season, not very predictable at all ie: Fabs, Lamps, Rooney, Gerrard etc.

    GW 18…

    Foster (Carson)
    Vidic Kolarov Konchesky (Coleman Simpson)
    Nani Nasri Bale Ferguson (VdV)
    Rooney Tevez Carroll

Got two free transfers so might get rid of VdV if he ain’t back any time soon (?), who are the obvious choices this week?!

I was down in Boca in May, Tevez has his hand prints cast into the pavement outside the stadium, he is a national hero there, he has made a nice bit of money with City and United, would not be surprised if he returned there, the quality of life he will enjoy back there is poles apart to what he has now, and as naive as it sounds, I really believe this is about his family and nothing else, which in this day and age, is comendable.

I really hope this isn't another Rooneygate, it does seem slightly worse, and the signs have been there for a long time. Fair dues to the man if he is returning home for family.

to be honest, im all for bleeding those oil rich simpleton's as dry as he can. But tevgez, a player i always liked, is really annoying me now. Everyhting is about him, he goes off on his holidays, getting special dispensations etc etc to go away. He's a self absorbed c*nt, who is one of the luckiest pricks to walk the earth- the money hes on, the life he has, the profession he is blessed to have...being honest it all makes me sick- if he wanted his family,he shouldnt have signed a new contract.

The way he goes on with Mancini etc., throwing tantrums and toys out the pram, as much as Mancini is an asshole, is indicative of ther fact he is in love with himself and thinks he is all seeing and all knowing- the little get can go fook himself as far as im concerned.

He's either in it for more money, or he's a f**king halfwit. Either way couldn't sufffer it and if i was one of the sheiks i'd do him for breach of contract and tell him to stick his moaning up his arse and fcuk off.

lucky? I don't think he would agree with you to be honest, he has money, he just doesn't have his family, just because he has money doesn't make him any more lucky than a chap living in Lucan with 3 kids a god and a lovely wife, driving cabs around the city.

Fair enough he shouldn't have committed to a new contract, but at the time it may have made sense, don't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that. We all give certain jobs a go, and then it comes to a stage where we re-evaluate and things have changed. Nothing at all wrong at committing to a job, giving it a good go (look at what he has done for City), but in the end realising that it just can't work without family. An overly simplistic argument from me to be fair, but family is more important than money every day of the week and twice on Sundays!

The thing is, he signed a 5 year contract (or was it 4.5 years), and its somewhat un-commendable to go back on your 'word'. I dont think he deserves any praise for wanting to bail from City.

    have two freebies.

Cahill and Elmander out for Bent/Fab(if fit) or Torres/Nasri!

Had cahill from GW10 so had him for the best part of his returns and nasri returns will diminish in fabs presence. Ideally would love to have torres and fabs but i feel bent will outscore or offer similar returns in the next few weeks.

Hold on and wait and see if the Tevez situation is any clearer by Friday. Elmander has West Brom at home next week and I personally am holding on to him until then, benching him this week probably. So I would advise you to do the same.

Fabregas, I had for his return, but now I am very much waiting to see if he can maintain fitness, I am leaning towards RVP at the moment, and think I am going to go for him in about 2-3 weeks, but you should probably take your own advice on Arsenal players, you probably know best.

Bent is now a second fiddle type of striker for me, and is now jostling for goals with Gyan/Wellbeck.

Cahill is good for the next 3 games at least, and he is their main goalscorer, I would be sticking. This weekend I would be looking at upgrading Adam to VDV (if he is fit, despite and assist and 3 BP's at the weekend, that was Adam's first goal or assist in over 10 + games from open play, I think we have seen the best of him!). I would then be looking to shift Bale soon too, he has had his time in the sun.

Tevez OUT Rooney IN, depending on tonight, might be a good move

sub zero temp in europe? This is where the money and the glamour is , and its only cold for a few months. Plus saracens offered him alot of money. I dont think nutcase, but i hate sore losers and when leinster beat them, the shit he came out with was so bizarre.

Anyway, doesnt matter. I knew he was a doctor anyway- which makes me not like doctors all the more. Can you imagine that guy doing surgery on you? fcukin hell, doesnt bear thinking about

he was criticising the ERB, and like Fergie or Wenger have done before with the FA was fined, they lost by 3 points, in a game where he would argue the ref was overly harsh which was what he was fined for criticising, so a mish mash of everything and being a nutcase and a sore loser!

I didn’t know they were separated so if they are, even if he was in Argentina he’d never see his kids that much anyway – which makes it even more strange that he’d use this as an excuse. Perhaps it is more down to money and city still haven’t offered enough yet – so they need to make it an 8 figure one off payment

I think Mancini should go on the Telly and talk to Tevez through the telly and say:

"Sometimes you look in a field and you see a cow and you think it's a better cow than the one you've got in your own field,". "It's a fact. Right? And it never really works out that way."

Defoe is one I've vowed never again. He is capable of the odd amazing week, but too often he is a 2pter. I've got to say he is slightly tempting due to the lack of alternative strikers at the moment. But a trip on the Defoe express is like a commute from north kent to London on a snowy day. You think it'll be fine, the next thing you know you're stuck at Tonbridge for seven hours.

Ian Holloway style: I would like to thank all the managers on this site for their timely advice and I must say it is an honour to be amongst such football manager talent. I would like to say I will continue to play in my own style and have a go even though the odds of wining this league is miniscule.

Wenger style: The managers on this site are morons and I will play my boys against these foul mouthed unskilled peasants and show then how to play the beautiful game.

Mourinho style: I am not one of the bottle I am the special one and even if I lose I win.

Ferguson style: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Grrrrrrrrrrr Rooney Grrrrrr Giggs Grrrrrr Scholes Grrrrr Chelsea Grrrrrrr Arsenal Grrrrrr City ahhhhhhh! Tevez lol!

Right enough of this back to the grind. ManU v Arsenal evening game lovely jubbly something to relax to or get stressed over tonight until then must switch off from football. This Fpl stuff drives you nuts winning mini leagues becomes paramount. Ciao for now!!

Is it time to get rid of Malouda? I've been thinking about it for the past few weeks, and meant to do it this gameweek but my internet wasn't working on Sat morning 🙁

Anyway, that slight hiccup has left me with a free transfer this week. I was thinking maybe Malouda -> VDV (if fit) and then I'd have 4.4M floating about and also might get rid of Tevez.

I could maybe hold off til the following week then and do MGP -> Lampard and Tevez -> 8.7M striker.

What do you lot think? I already have Cahill, Nani, Nasri and Carroll.

After the weekend, I am left with some question:

    1) With 5-3 in cleanies so far, which team will shut out more, Wigan or Stoke?
    2) Did Elmohammady play fullback or winger Saturday?
    3) Did Fat Lampard look right? (my stream was rather dodgy)
    4) Torres? Seriously?

      1) Stoke. Wigan had the lowest attempts on goal, passes in the final third, and number of goals last time I looked. Wigan are a CS waiting to happen.

      2)I think FB

      3) He was not that active, so yes he is back.

      4) Hell no!

Has any one harrassed FPL about the other possible Carrol assist?
Is there a good chance he may get it? Would be handy!

considering what an assist really is, the other one was clearly one as well. but the 50% who has not managed to have carroll in their team yet, deserve a little help, no? 😉

Got to agree with the pussy. Whilst I can kind of agree with him not getting the assist vs West Ham (although there are plenty of occurrences of assists like that being given) I can't see any reason why this one shouldn't be given, unless there's a conspiracy afoot.

i obviously agree that it should be an assist. but i sincerely hope FPL are capable of figuring this one out themselves, or otherwise, we will just have to accept that their assist awarding guidelines are insufficient

    From the BBC Sport website:

"FOOTBALL: Man City have decided they will not sell Carlos Tevez in January, BBC Sport understands"

There's no article yet. This is going to go on for quite a while methinks!
