Frank Lampard, Cesc Fabregas Robin Van Persie and Rafael Van Der Vaart should all return to action in some form this weekend, and I may finally get the chance to blow some of that cash currently sat in my bank. All this talk about differentials is making me very tempted to ignore the clamour for Fabregas and chuck Lampard straight into the mix too, regardless of Chelsea’s recent form. In fact sod it, I might get both, it is Christmas after all.

For those of you sensible enough not to have stockpiled enough cash to fund a large family through University (a bit of politics there), we’ve picked out some more differentials of the slightly cheaper variety to ponder over…

Aleksander Kolarov
Although he is fairly well known around these parts already since featuring in our full Watchlist article, Aleksander Kolarov is still owned by just 1.5% of all managers, a surprising statistic considering the attacking threat he poses on the left flank. Considering City’s defensive form and the potential he has shown in his limited game time so far, Kolarov looks to be one of the best value defenders in the league at just 5.7m, offering a substantial discount over the likes of Baines and Ashley Cole.

With eight clean sheets so far, City lead the league in terms of shut outs over the course of the season, but more impressive than that is their recent form; in the last seven league games, they have kept four clean sheets and let in just a single goal in the other three. It’s easy to see the benefit of having a city defender in your side then, but where Kolarov really stands from the likes of Kolo Toure or fellow differential Jerome Boateng, is at the other end of the pitch. Kolarov is top of the defenders in terms of attempts on goal in recent games and is also taking corners regularly; the only other defender to be doing so currently is Leighton Baines.

Jordan Henderson
Sunderland’s second top scorer in the FPL game was another to be highlighted in our pre-season ‘Breakouts’ article but so far this season, his attacking threat has been limited. Since moving to the right flank against West Ham however, he has looked a much improved fantasy prospect and his match winning performance in that game saw him pick up his first league goal of the season and all three bonus points. A quick glance over the filtered OPTA stats, available soon to members, show that in the two games since moving to the flank, he has delivered six key passes and 13 crosses, clear signs that he is also likely to chip in with assists in games to come, on top of the goals he has promised.

Sunderland face a Bolton side that have kept just a single clean sheet all season, so goals look more than likely, and the 1.1% of FPL managers that have invested in the young England star will be looking at this weekend’s game as probably his best chance so far to provide a bumper return.

Somen Tchoyi
After just failing to make the differentials last week, Somen Tchoyi has shot up to the top of the pile this week with a very attractive home fixture, and recent quotes from Roberto Di Matteo which suggest that he may be played as a lone striker against local rivals Wolves. The tall Cameroonian playmaker has looked very strong in centre midfield in recent games, and is currently West Brom’s second top scorer with 3 league goals despite only playing 332 minutes so far this season. It is no surprise then, that his manager may look to him for goals this weekend if Peter Odemwingie fails to return from injury.

Tchoyi is owned by just 0.1% of fantasy managers, a tiny amount in comparison to his team mate Chris Brunt who is currently owned by 6.6%. While Brunt offers a slightly more proven option in midfield, Tchoyi’s goal threat and potential Out Of Position role make him an excellent differential for this week.

Hugo Rodallega
Having dropped nearly 1.0m in price since the start of the season, the Wigan frontman is starting to look like a decent budget option up front, especially considering his lone striker role and the recent form of wide players Nzogbia and Cleverley. Rodallega’s returns so far this season have been disappointing after a decent haul last term, but with an excellent run of fixtures coming up, we should see him back firing on all cylinders once more. Add in his set piece and penalty duties and he could be a real bargain at just 5.6m.

Wigan face Aston Villa at home this weekend, and will fancy their chances or grabbing a few goals considering Villa’s woeful away record this season; The Villans have picked up just four points from a possible 24 on their travels, and let in 18 goals.

Almost making it this week was ‘Old Glass Legs’ himself, Mr Robin Van Persie, who looks set to play a part in Arsenals home fixture against Stoke, although doubts over his starting role meant he was just a bit too risky. John Mensah looks like excellent value in the Sunderland defence at just 4.4m and will be hoping for another clean sheet at home to Bolton this weekend, and finally Luke Varney, whose 2 goals and 5 bonus points in Blackpool’s last three games make him a great bargain pick at just 4.6m.

I could agree with that view, but in such case there is zero point in scout picks, the idea is to provice a good advice to people but it has been bad advice this season in most weeks.

Put this on the previous article before realising this one had started:-

Have been dropping like a stone down the rankings for the past few weeks. Currently have a team of:

    Jussi, Foster
    Konchesky, Samba, Kolarov, Coleman, Shawcross
    Arshavin, Pedersen, Jarvis, Malouda, Nani
    Torres, Davies, Carroll

I’ve got two free transfers this week and £4.2 million in the bank. Where does my team need the most surgery do people think?

Leaning towards getting rid of Arshavin and Malouda for Fabregas and Gerrard, although both are a bit of a risk I think. Any wise suggests for transfers would be much appreciated.

Planning to bring in Samba for Dann and Tevez for Elmander. Means my team will be:

    Fabianski (Carson)
    Samba Kolarov Konchesky (Jara, Coleman)
    Nasri Nani Brunt Pedersen (Malouda)
    Drogba Tevez(c) Carroll

What do you think? Right to bench Malouda?

    Antoher RMT for you guys...

    Foster - Robinson

    Tamas - Cole - Evra - Simpson - Coleman
    Cahill - Nasri - Bale - Jarvis - Nani
    Elmander - Tevez - Carroll

Thinking Tamas to Kolarov (mainly because of all the love everyone's showing him here)

and Cahill to Fabregas (thinking fab will get 60-70 and likely to do some damage against Stoke, while the aussie will likely get me a nice 2 pointer)

Sound thinking, or crazy? Any other transfer recommendations?

Captain choice for the week stands between fab, nasri and tevez, thinking nasri is the safe choice, while fab would be the brave one...

Surely that money would be better spent on upgrading Elmander or Caroll (Elmander for me as Bolton's fixture's stiffen up soon). Especially as your big money striker is Tevez - alot of uncertainty there - would you really be happy with Carroll and Elmander should Carlos go missing?

Also struggling with the dropping Cahill part - I doubt anyone will be getting in him in now as he will be leaving soon so he offers a nice differential opportunity for the few weeks up to new year - then you could replace?

Would never criticise Fabs but he has no form and seems to get injured every other game this season, a few weeks to see how he gets on could benefit you? You do have Nasri cover if they go massive against Stoke this week (being a fan of the potters i'm not hopeful this week...)

All depends if you only want to do well this week...

        (all my opinion of course)

          Thanks for the reply.

I'd never touch Carroll. Elmander on the other hand, I'm thinking of upgrading, maybe to Bent considering his nice fixtures. He hasn't done shit for me since I brought him in (other than me gaining 0.2)

Tevez is a wait and see situation, if he's left in the cold, it wouldn't cost me too much either upgrading to Rooney or downgrading to RvP (Fab or Nasri would have to go). Torres would be an option too.

Regarding Cahill, I know he has some good fixtures coming up, but he's really the only one I can sacrifice to bring in Fab... Guess I'll have to sleep on that one. He did look bleak last game, but usually he gets an assist and bonus points just for showing up for the game.

I'd go with Tevez as captain choice, seems by far the best option this weekend.

On the transfer front I'd leave the Fabregas transfer for another few weeks, Cahill's next two games are great and he should get you a few goals. I've just transfered in Kolarov so he'll obviously do amazingly this weekend, scoring goals for fun and all the rest.

team for this week after a couple of changes:

    Hart (Rachubka)
Vidic Kyrgiakos Kolarov (Cashley, D Simpson)
Nani, Nzogbia, Nasri, Brunt (B Ferguson)
    Tevez, Elmander, Carroll

This week i've brought in Brunt for Bale (need to free up some cash to get VdV back, and i think Bale might have tired a bit) and Hart for Cech - good move to put cashley on the bench? Cant see the game being a thriller but i reckon ManU should do them, possible points from Nani and Vidic outweight the slim chance of a Cashley clean sheet for me i think.

attila, jamsiep and applebonkers. I'm offended! 🙂
I'd keep your transfer, that team looks pretty solid for this week.

Agree, looks good for this week.

A bit heavy on Citeh in the long-term imo but they have a good run. Balotelli a gamble - surely a Bent/Defoe offers less risk in this price range.

    Evening lads 🙂

    Robinson (Stockdale)
    Vidic Kolarov Kyrgiakos (Coleman, Foley)
    Bale Cahill Nani Nasri (Ferguson)
    Drogba Tevez Carroll
    bank=0.1

Looking for some advice. My only decision right now is whether to bring in Torres for Drogba this gw. It's only one transfer and would be a freebie, but has a direct affect on the next few gameweeks. It basically boils down to the following 4 choices going forward:

    a) Drogba, Gerrard, Vidic
    b) Drogba, Gerrard, Nasri
    c) Torres, Lampard, Vidic
    d) Torres, Lampard, Nasri

    Which path to take?

Cheers! Was leaning towards C, considering how the final team would look, but if Nasri continues to show form (last weekend aside), will probably go with D.

Can people please put their teams up when asking for advice? Surely it's not hard to realise that the rest of your squad has an impact on who to play?!!!

I need to make up ground in my mini league, so.....

    I'm considering a 4 point hit!

    Drogba > Torres

    Elmander > Bent

    is that likely to work?
Over the next few weeks Bent and Torres should do well right?

I'd keep Drogba Dai and do Elmander to Torres only.

if I had 7.2m in the bank perhaps I would, we're not all as wealthy as you JOMT!
So you think Drogba will come good? He is probably off pens now Lampard is back.

I know Dai - I think Chelsea's shite run can't continue and they well sneak a win over United. Every week I was saying I would get rid of Drogs but never got around to it. Lamps would definitely be back on pens and (if you had the money) he would be a sneaky bet to do well...

I can't believe he is still at 12.6m, way out of my price bracket! I agree Chelsea will turn it around very soon. I'm planning to trade Cahill for Malouda to get the Chelsea cover back. Malouda may play further forward now Lampard is back.

I've got MGP so I am biased, but I would be reluctant to part with Stoke's best player.

I'd prefer etherington out of those 2, he just has a tough game this week. I'd save the transfer.
