Carlo Ancelotti throws Frank Lampard back into the fray for the visit of United, while Alex Ferguson will be without the experience of Paul Scholes as he misses the trip to the Bridge. Rafael van der Vaart is back in contention after looking “sharp” in training all week as Spurs prepare for their snow-threatened trip to the Seaside.

West Brom look set to be without Peter Odemwingie for the local derby clash with Wolves – Somen Tchoyi could start up front as a result. Wolves continue to be ravaged by injuries and right now the likes of Kevin Doyle and Matt Jarvis remain doubts, while Mick McCarthy’s back four looks makeshift at best. Wigan are hit by injuries and suspensions as they wait on the visit of Villa who themselves are reported to have concerns over the fitness of Ashley Young – a possible four-week absence is being reported today.

Roy Hodgson continues to ponder whether to throw Steven Gerrard in against Fulham, although hints that his skipper will make a return. His former club Fulham in opposition travel to Anfield without Mousa Dembele as they strive to improve a dismal run of goalscoring form.

I respectfully disagree with Torres as top of the Watchlist for strikers: 1 - there's 4 games in quick succession. Because of his injury I reckon he'll start two of those. 2 - blackpool away will probably be off and 3 - he's off form. A fired-up Tevez for me!

Yeah but I've been saying how Balotelli is Mancini's fav son. Stick with him for a while. Hope he starts but after what happened last week and what the commentators said, I took him out of my team straight after he walked off.

Not sure what formation to go with this week, and who to captain.

    My team is:

    Foster, Al Habsi
    Vidic, Baines, Onuoha, Jagielka, Foley
Nani, Nasri, Arshavin, Van der Vaart, Brunt
    Tevez, Elmander, Carroll.

Can't decide whether to go for:

    A) 3-5-2 with Elmander on the bench
    B) 3-4-3 with Arshavin on the bench

    What do you reckon?

And as for captain, I'm torn at the moment. Thinking Carroll or Nasri..

I'd captain Tevez, if he plays he'll be right up for it. if he dont you'll have form or value to take over.

Option A. 3-5-2 with Elmander on the bench.

And if it's between Nasri and Carroll for captain, pick Nasri.

Why would you bench Elmander against a frail Sunderland Def when he scores most of his goals away from home?!

I'm another benching Elmander, because out of Nani, Nasri, Brunt, Nzog, Drog, Tevez and Bale he is the obvious choice to bench. And is Sunderland's defence that frail? Cattermole in front of it breaking up play, Mensah's pretty good, Onouha is a good CB as well as RB.

If you can give me a convincing argument for benching another one of those I'll gladly bring Elmander back in.

If I was jimmyfowler I would also bench Elmander. I'm not convinced that Elmander scoring away a lot awhile ago is a good enough reason on its own.

In fact Elmander last scored away on Nov 13 against Wolves. To put that in perspective I could score against Wolves. And his major away pts haul was back in August, who I could also score against...drunk...during a three legged charity run...blindfolded. Elmander is now more home pts magnet I'd say.

          williamson is up against birmingham.

Foster over Carson...just look at the pts and form difference. WB always concede.

Coleman over williamson...Coleman has an assist potential. Man City are not exactly free scoring at home either.

Pretty good - similar to mine, though I have Foster in goal, Onaoha instead of Dann in defence, Pedersen instead of Bale in midfield and Bent instead of Carroll up front.

It's a complete lottery this week. For some reason, just because it's his turn, I'm going Torres. But Tevez and Nasri have claims...

My friend in the last three weeks has sold Etherington followed by Odemwingie followed by Nolan and each of them has scored 8+ each week he sold them. This week he sold Torres and I'm alarmingly tempted to buy him and captain him based on this logic

I have two free transfers but no idea what to do. The obvious thing would be to replace Dunn but he is at home to West Ham. Long term I want Van der Vaart but he and his match are doubtful I think. Anyone help? And no, I don't want to replace Ferguson. He is my bench fodder.

Ive got Dunn and I'm going to play him and hope but also want to get in VdV as soon as possible. Might be worth sitting on it until tomo morning when more is known about the Spurs game i guess. Ive got Gyan too so hoping that a/ he starts and b/ he scores

You know, there's really not that much I think you can do.

I changed my mind about the bench fodder tactic after seeing the number of postponed matches, injuries and suspensions. I think it's time to adapt and to have 8 good point scoring offensive players. Yaya Toure or Brunt aren't bad shouts. Remember we're just trying to hold on until January, and by then, we'll have another wildcard to work with.

It's also important to realize that you probably won't be getting Lampard, Gerrard or Fabregas over the Christmas period, so using more funds on supporting players won't come back to hurt you.

Lampard is unfit and playing deep. Gerrard looks a decent prospect, but he's not playing just yet, and Fabregas just isn't the same. 65% pass completion last week does not bode well.

I have an amazing team on paper this week, and for the first time in weeks, I have a selection dilemma.

I've benched Carroll twice this season, and been burned for 6 points once. But playing him over any of my other players just seems really foolish.

          Team for this week.

          Foster

          Cole, Kolarov, Kyrgiakos

Nani, Van Der Vaart, Nasri, N'Zogbia, Pedersen

          Drogba, Tevez (c)

          (Krul, Carroll, Jara, Ferdinand)

Yeah, I'm tempted to bench Drogba too, but I just feel like Newcastle blow hot and cold, and I have a feeling that Carroll won't be able to bludger his way through Birmingham's decent defense/Ben Foster. It's an away game as well, Pardew's first, and I can see this being a 1 or 2 nil win to the Brum.

Ditched your bench fodder then Camzy? Can't say I blame you. I'm doing the same for the Christmas period.

I'd say you've got it spot on. It's a risk but so is benching any other player from your front 8. And if VdV isn't back, you've got a top replacement coming in for him.

                Yeah, see my post above.

You've got to be adaptable, and now's when the sh*t hits the fan, so the more players you can trust to return decent point hauls the better!

In that case and given the doubts, I might just transfer Torres in for Gyan and Van der Vaart for Ferguson. I wanted to keep Gyan but I'm worried that he will start on the bench again and I can't take that risk. As you say, there's no point in getting the expensive players at the moment.

I would do Cahill but it's a very tough choice

Carroll is Mr Consistent so I wouldn't drop him. Cahill never scores big but gets alot of 5-9 pointers

Nani could produce big but he's away at Chelsea (the hardest place about :)) <-- well maybe not

Do not bench Nani. He is fixture proof. You have a great mid and forward line so it is a really tough call, but I would start with the principle that Nani is in your team and work back from there.

I don't think Van der Vaart will start, and the Barton to Henderson move is much of a muchness.

Sagna to Bardsley could be a good move.

Sunderland have got some good fixtures coming up so I don't think taking out Henderson is a priority yet. I'd look at taking out one or two of Sagna, Albrighton or Lee.

I think Cole will have Nani is his back pocket this weekend, until the 67th minute when Nani cuts inside and unleashes a rocket to the top right hand corner of Park's head, which will then fly off Rooney's ass into the goal. Sweet. Park assist? Nani assist? YOU DECOIDE!

It will barely graze Rooney's ass, (which by the way, will have no business being that high in the air), and no significant deflection means Park Goal, Nani assist, Rooney Ass.

Are some people still pissed Nani didn't get the assist when the ball went an-whole-other way than Nani intended, reaching Park?
