Man City have confirmed that the Eastlands clash with Everton will go ahead this evening, barring any late downturn in weather conditions.

Although temperatures had dropped to -15C in the area last night, City have stressed that the pitch is in “perfect condition” and that they are not expecting a pitch inspection prior to kick-off.
Good news for some Fantasy Managers who invested in the likes of Aleksandar Kolarov and Carlos Tevez prior to a Gameweek that has so far seen just two games played.

Tevez is set to start for City tonight but it is widely expected that he will relinquish the captaincy, with Kolo Toure restored as club skipper. Roberto Mancini’s decision is yet to be confirmed but, from his statement over the weekend, the City boss made it clear that Tevez will play a part tonight and that he is expecting the usual level of performance from the Argentine…

“Carlos is a football player and he loves football. He plays like he did when he was young, in the garden. Every day, whether in training or in an important match, he always plays the same way.”

Significant returns for Tevez tonight would change the entire complexion of the Gameweek, particularly for those who took the risk on handing the striker their Fantasy Premier League armband. Tevez could prove a major differential in what would be a key Gameweek in the Fantasy season for all the wrong reasons.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Heard a good one on talk sport.
In the Real v Barca game when Ronaldo gave Bep a push
Pedro came up to him and said he should have respect.
Ronaldo came back at Pedro and said "Who are you?"
Pedro said, "I am Pedro, and I played in and won a World Cup final, Who are You?"

To be fair I think it's been over exaggerated if I'm honest.. He's had quite a long break since he last played. we have 4 games in like 10 days coming up soon but after that it's the FA Cup so we can rest him in that anyway.

I think i might be going senile but i'd actually like to see David Beckham OBE back at United for a year. He never had any pace, so that won't be missing and would give us a set piece specialist we've been missing since Hargo's knees went missing.

Not sure i'd go that far, but a 6 month loan would be very handy considering Valencia will need time and Park is off in Asia. Would also mean Cleverley could complete his Wigan loan and get a lot more experience. Beckham is 2 years younger than Giggs so it's not impossible.

    Hi Guys,

I have been thinking about Fantasy Football Consistency, wondering how possible it is? How much can knowledge secure FF success?

For example, looking at the top overall team and the top FFS league the majority of teams are having a first real 'top' year. There does not seem to be a team up there who does well 'every' year - I am talking about top 1000.

Does this mean there is a LOT of luck involved or will football knowledge eventually rise to the fore and those teams (if they exist) that finish highly every year will do so as the season goes on?

Interested in your thoughts and or examples of any perennially successful managers......

    Thanks, J

OK - I think I'm reasonably consistent and hopefully on a upward trend. Here are my previous scores and I'm currently on about 10k

          2006/07 1939 19,351
          2007/08 2155 23,984
          2008/09 2081 3,971
          2009/10 2441 1,082

I'm sure many others will exist with an even better average than me - so I do think there is a lot of skill involved as well.

Yes you are right and I didn't really expect someone to remember me - but Guess what - all the people in my mini league have remembered the fact that I have won my mini league for the last 3 seasons and are desperate to beat me.

That's what matters more to me anyway.

I even wind them up by playing football by having 3 stars sewn onto my football top...aiming to have 4 next year

I dont think there is so much luck as people think. Surely luck averages out to some extent over the season, as in the real prem league.

You need to just play the safest options you can. top 1000 is difficult. but i think good 'managers' could finish quite high up (top 5k or 10k?) fairly consistently.

I think it's too early to analyse the Top 1000. Many are in there, who had a strong team in GW1 and were lucky with injuries. They didn't have to adapt much. This will obviously change with many DGW coming up and injuries to their key players are unavoidable.

Generally I would say that for getting in the Top 50-100k at the end you need good PL knowleadge. Within those top guys it's mostly down to strategy and luck.

Finishing in the top 10k (or top 0.5%) is a very commendable achievement. Finishing in the top 1k does require bit of luck (or rather, a lack of bad luck)

For the teams you mention who are having a good first year at the top – it would be interesting to see just how well they are still doing at the end of the season, as we are only just approaching the halfway point.

For me, luck seems to have played significantly more of a factor this season, due to the unpredictability of results so far – but I’m sure that those continuing to make decision on sound knowledge of the game, form, fixtures etc and will in the end pay off, even if they aren’t doing so well right now.

I think of it like poker - at the lower levels, a bit of skill will get you a long way. Once you're at the top, the skill levels are all very high, so luck comes into it more.

I would say the difference between 2,500th and 1st in FPL is down to luck.

Most consistent I've seen on here is a bloke called Si, top 2,000 or 3,000 for at least 4 seasons running, including a top 20 (I think).

I think it's mostly luck. Look at SammyC, Jon Reeson, jamsiep, all did brilliant last year but have been average at best this year. Also, Granville, this time last year he was having a mare, I think it took him like 14 weeks to get into the top 500k or something like that, but he's doing great this season..

Being on this site you don't really have to have a good knowledge about Football to well, look at thehodge, he asks about a million questions regarding his team each week and I seriously don't think he has a clue, but he always seems to do well.

Nah, obviously I want lots of points which goes together with your overall rank but my mini leagues is what I care about the most. I see people on here who are just in the FFS league and TotalFPL league and I think, what's the point?! I wouldn't do it if I wasn't in my own mini leagues in all fairness.

Most knowledgeable is something completely different and something I have no clue about and which we can never prove anyway. There are plenty of posters here that know much about football in my opinion.

The most successful has to be si, but if anybody can show a better history then hats off to that person.

        Seems an interesting debate:

I have managed top 8k for 3 out of 4 seasons, bar my 2nd where I lost interest (girlfriend, schoolboy error)....

I think if try to do the right things, you'll finish in the top 20-50K. If you get a good slice of fortune, anything above that is possible. Luck has a big impact, but those that do well regularly, like Si, know who to bring in, when to bring in, use their transfers wisely, & have enogh knowledge of the game to make good things happen. All Hail Si. Lucky sod 😉

I always used to think cautious was boring, but I've taken too many hits this year (27 transfers) and done quite badly as a result, which isn't fun either. I feel better when I don't have any point deductions at the start of my week, so will carry on trying to avoid point hits..

Obviously having knowledge of football, players, form and very importantly the fixtures plays a massive part. But when you've got all that sussed, like I guess most of us have, I think luck plays a huge role... 70% sounds about right to me as well.

My opinion is that it is down to luck when you take punts, I.E. Me, got N'Zogbia in when he just started his form, which is the key to this game, getting players in before they hit points scoring form.

I am in my second season, was like 150k when I joined this site, but then ended up 50k by the end of last season. I am now sitting pretty in 14k and I think it is all about doing the logical thing with 1 or 2 punts here and there.

I'm planning out my transfers as best I can for the frantic run of Christmas gameweeks (The Mrs will not be happy if I'm busy working out my goalkeeper rotation and double gameweek potentials on boxing day).

The pitch is at a constant temperature of +12/13; so that would help you a lot (except if you play at blackpool)

he is from Argentina you ignorant tw*t, whose winters are regularly ranging fron -10 to -30, parts of South America, including Argentina lie within the Arctic cirle........there is one thing being a football fan but sheer ignorance.......there is no excuse.......

I doubt they play many matches in those conditions, though, do they? Feel free to call me an ignorant tw@t if I'm wrong...

alsybach i think you maybe the ignorant tw*t....

I have lived and even skied in Argentina and it is indeed cold, in southern Argentina. However Carlito comes from the barrios of Buenos Aires where it rarely hits anything close to those temperatures....Argy is a very long country and covers quite a few climatic zones.

And while we are at it, no part of South America is in the "arctic circle" - parts of Canada, Russia yes. For that matter no part of South America are even in the Antarctic circle....
