We’ve managed to eek out one final fixture in this heavily truncated gameweek as Manchester City play host to Everton. Carlos Tevez has withdrawn his transfer request, could my prophecy of Friday morning ring true? Chance would be a fine thing.

City then, unsurprisingly, recall their captain and Aleksander Kolarov to the line-up follow suspension (and a hefty portion of drama), while James Milner replaces Nigel De Jong who himself is suspended. David Moyes meanwhile makes two changes as Leon Osman returns from injury to deputise for Stephen Pienaar who picked up a niggle in the week, while also giving another face a chance to shine up front with Victor Anichebe forcing Saha, Yakubu and Beckford to the bench after weeks of paltry returns. Teams in full are..

City XI: Hart; Zabaleta, Toure, Kompany, Kolarov; Milner, Toure Yaya, Barry; Silva, Tevez, Balotelli.

Everton XI: Howard; Neville, Jagielka, Distin, Baines; Coleman, Rodwell, Fellaini, Osman, Cahill; Anichebe.

As per, the Dugout Discussion opens it’s doors once again while we wrap up for the last match prior to Christmas.

Is fabs and nasri to much arsenal to play this week given they are playing Chelsea? I have brunt on the bench so could easily sub one for him.

    Thoughts?

how does the tie break work? is it fewest goals conceded by the team or by your backline, if i scroll over my players that have goals conceded it only shows the defenders as minus points

Whole team I think. Data view proves it. At worst it's defenders + mids as 1 goal affects them.

Morning Neo - I managed to get 26 pts. The fact I had Tevez actually bit me in the As* as my emergency capt went to Tevez and not Cahill.

Pity I "wasted" a trsfr on Nasri and not someone like Gamst. I have to get rid of Phil Jones, but that can wait fro next week. Im considering doing nothing this week.

      You have any transfer plans?

Hi inalize - I'm on 7 consecutive green arrows and also benefited from a lucky Cahill captaincy.

The Christmas rush often makes or breaks a few FPL players's seasonS. Distant memories one Boxing Day when I had two players sent off that day - BAE and Fuller. I only got 21 that gamesweek and there were no postponements.

In light of the current weather situation, transfers have to be held back until the deadline day for sure.

Tell me about it. I put (c) on Nasri and set emergency capt to value as I wanted Drogba to be stand in and Tevez after him. Form would have been Carroll.

The rest is history. 11 pts and and a couple of thousand ranking places down the drain.

I agree with you - they should just have a normal captain and a vice captain; and forget about form, value etc., particularly in the event of postponements; and that comes from somebody who benefitted from the current rules this week.

The good old days indeed... I was ok with the new system when it came into place but events like yesterday highlight it's massive flaws. The amount of lucky Cahill(c) managers in my leagues is sickening. With Pedersen(c) and Cahill in my team I should have made a massive jump on everybody, but instead it just all evened out again, or in some cases worse for me.

I can imagine the moaning & complaining then. You would be forced to captain someone from a game that was 100% certain to be played to make sure you had a captain. Let's pretend Nasri followed by Drogba were the choices people would pick under this system. How is that fair when we don't have either info at deadline to make a fair pick.

Maybe then, the more you have to go down the pecking order then the less valuable the capatain should be. 2xpoints for 1st choice, 1.5x 2nd choice etc.

If the rules stated your captain has to play or else you don't get a sub captain then it would be silly to risk getting a 0 over someone who should score 2 points minimum. Most weeks your captain will start & it isn't an issue. A simple warm up injury & no captain would suck. It was like that before & FPL decided everyone deserved a captain.

My problem is that no one would ever have captained Cahill awaay at City, yet they've come away with 26pts from it. I know what you're saying about needing to choose a captain, but do you seriously think 26pts for captain Cahill yesterday is fair? I'm punished for choosing Pedersen(c), simply because his game went ahead? My captain would have been Cahill if Blackburn was called off.

Why did you pick MGP? Because you knew he had a game or because he was the best choice in your team? I picked value myself as form looked like crap choices to me. Everyones team is different with different answers for the top 3 picks in value & form. I agree with you that Cahill captain in a full week would have been gutsy as many planned to bench him. Let's pretend the game last night didn't occur or Cahill scored 2 points. Would it be an issue then? It's just a freak week, it's as simple as that. Some were lucky this week but over the season, the better players will rise to the top.

Freak result, Cahill & double figures is rare. Cahill was 11-1 to score the 1st goal to Tevez 4-1 or so. Similar to anytime scorer markets. If Cahill had a low form rating then it isn't an issue.

hello ttbm, +1 you had the point ... the current system much logical imo BUT it will depend on your luck too the playable in the team either you set your emergency captain to (form/value)... in my case had set nasri(c) as value, the highest drogba then follow by nani since both not playing therefore will go to cahill which he's playing ....

You get a captain this way rather than getting 0 points which you would have got. If you could pick 3 vice captains, you probably still wouldn't get a captain. I would rather a captain then getting a 0 due to my 2 best player missing a game for reasons I can't adjust for.

When I realised the Chelsea game wS off I thought oh no! I've now got Cahill captain and some people laughed, they didn't complain though that I had a third captain , as they all assumed he would do nothing, so now that he did well it's tough. I'm sure everyone gets luck from time to time, and this is my first of the season so I'll take it thanks!!

I f*cking hate this game sometimes. I know there'll be a lot of sob stories this week...but i've been trounced in my leagues because:
    1) Captain Cahill
    2) One rival who only had Ryan Nelson to play, hence he became captain
    3) Another guy who accidentially left his emergency captain on form and got Yaya over Tevez.
    Rant over

how often does your captain not play? It's very rare unless you do it on purpose. Those who picked value or form had an order of vice captain depending on who played.

But when the captain is not even in the top three for form or value he should not get the armband. You shouldn't be captain just cos you play that gw. It makes it too easy and removes the skill needed in picking in advance

So it's your fault that your 3 best players don't play that gameweek now? The rules are in black & white. This weak was a freak week, if Chelsea played MU these issues don't come up as much. Same happened last season when Drogba & Rooney both missed a gameweek & Lampard became the emergency captain. You can't foresee an injury in warm up etc.

You knew his team when the gameweek started. You could have just got Cahill in yourself to guarantee the win. It's only the Fantasy Cup. The chances of someone from FFS getting into the quarter finals are quite slim despite all the talented managers here.

You have never rated Cahill as you have never had him. You wouldn't have done it even with early cancellations.

I've seen someone with Cahill as third sub get him in as captain. Shit rule. It's all well saying it's a one off but 26 points this year and 56 last year for Lampard make a massive difference

If all the games go ahead then Cahill isn't a captain for anyone. The 26 for Cahill in that example is just jammy. Those with Lampard would have got his 28 points at the very least. I would like to see a rule where your captain can't be on your subs bench when the gameweek starts. That would be a start. I can see where you are coming from though.

I did sent a mail yesterday to FPL support about the possibility of canceling GW18 and this was what they replied.

              -------------------------------------------------------

              Hi there

              From the FAQs:

What happens if a team doesn't play in a Gameweek?
The players will score 0 points in the Gameweek and will play twice in a future Gameweek when the match is re-scheduled. Points are only awarded to teams who have players selected in the Gameweek when the game is actually played, irrespective of if they had them selected for the originally scheduled fixture.

Any matches that are postponed due to the recent weather will be rescheduled at a later date. Any players that do not play in your team will earn no points and will therefore be eligible for automatic substitution/emergency captain changes where appropriate. No additional transfers will be made available to replace players that have a game postponed. You will only earn points for the players that did not play in this gameweek if they are in your team for the gameweek that the match is rescheduled for.

In the unlikely case that the games are rescheduled the same gameweek, these games will be included. There will be no later deadline to account for this.

Matches in the Fantasy Cup will go ahead as normal.

              Regards

              FPL

Ok that makes sense. I mean if you had no plan on starting him then can't be captain that's a fair rule. In my defence at least he was in my starting 11 as I had a feeling man city would blow it!

i was annoyed about the emergency captain last year when i very nearly lost my private league because of the lampard debacle. funnily enough though, most of the people who benefitted from it then were on here saying what a great rule it was etc.

i think it should be scrapped. it basically penalises people who play the game properly and benefits those that don't bother with their team

This week I'm thinking zero transfers

    Hart(foster)
Cashley Rio g Johnson foley (dann)
    Nani mgp Cahill cesc (etherington)
    Carroll Elmander(Gyan)

Thoughts? The only transfer I thought was cashley to baines or evra. Or cashley + Gyan out for defoe and cheap defender

I'd look to downgrade one of your expensive defenders and think about getting in one of Tevez, Drogba, Rooney, Torres.

Clean sheets are hard to come by this season so spending a ton of cash on expensive defenders at the expense of a reliable top tier striker seems counter-productive to me.

Gyan is a wasted transfer in as far as I'm concerned. Bent is still the best Sunderland option if you want to have one of their strikers for this favourable set of fixtures they have coming up.

Rio to Rafael or GJ to Konchesky should leave you with enough cash to upgrade Gyan, no?

There are literally no cheap defenders that appeal to bring in this GW? Might just get Bramble for the long haul. How do people see VDV slotting back in? I fear he may be on the right wing. Although I guess he drifts inside so much that he will still be very influential, on pens and set-pieces.

Depends on your definition of 'cheap' 4.5/4.0 makes a big difference.

Any way - Givet/Jara seem to be the best options at the moment. Foley maybe for this GW.

With no defences really keeping clean sheets, all defenders look horrible. But there are a lot of cheap defenders that play, but you'll struggle to get clean sheets for them.

            City - no cheap defenders
Liverpool - no cheap defenders (assuming <4.5)
Sunderland - away at United, defence decimated.

And picking 3 out of 20 doesn't really prove a point.

Chelsea & Man City have 8

Great GW for me - subbed MGP for Etherington on Saturday morning. I feel for my cup opponent - he got 35 points which would've taken most ties this GW.

Had Kolorav, Hart, Coleman and Cahill (c) for 41 points in total.

So going forward, I need to replace Jones, Elmander has one more week and Cahill is a future out (for Lampard if he gets into some form).

So any ideas for the Jones sub, I have 1.2 useable in the bank (rest is for Cahill -> Lampard)? Thinking Rafael, Konchesky, Dawson/Hutton, even Bosingwa comes into play after this GW if I hold out.

    Current team:
    Hart/Foster
    Kolorav/Coleman/Jara/Simpson/Jones
    Cahill/Nasri/Nani/VdV/MGP
    Carroll/Elmander/Torres

I am in Sydney. SCG for me unless it's 2-1 England. Day One organised if it's 1-1 or 2-1 Australia.

What's the point if it's 2-1 England after melbourne? Ashes are retained & Sydney has less meaning & the crowd won't care.

There's still the series- and the opportunity to watch a great (possibly) day of cricket.

Come on mate, it's like watching the last round of EPL where MU play Chelsea for example play & one of them has already won the title with a 3 point lead & a healthy goal difference. Finishing on equal points means little when the other team lifts the Cup. Easy enough to watch cricket on TV if that's the case.

I went to watch the 5th day of England V south africa when when we had no chance of winning the series and it was great fun!

Surely being there for the opportunity of a tied series isn't too bad anyway???

Also- I'd still go and watch MU chelsea! 😉

Tied series is a failure. Even you can see that. Sydney will suit England more imo so hopefully it's 2-1 Australia by then. I know what you are saying but the crowd won't be into it if the Ashes are retained by England.

I went to the MCG 4 years ago when England had already lost the ashes. Each test on it's own is still important.

what do people think of Park's potential over the next few weeks? I know he doesn't start regularly but he seems to have hit great form.

also, is he one of the players affected by this Asian cup mularkey? When does all that begin?

Excellent article on website from 16 Dec. 'Park will miss 6 Premier League games (bir, wba, STK, tot, BIR, blp) including the rescheduled game against Blackpool, the seventh is an FA Cup fixture with Liverpool.'

    Hi guys,

My team at the moment is

    Robbo/Krul,
    G Cahill/A Cole/Onuoha/Kolarov/Carr
    T Cahill/Nasri/Nani/Albrighton/Jarvis
    Carroll/Tevez/Elmander

I'm contemplating two changes for the upcoming GW (I won't be making any transfers until Saturday but I'm just planning in advance) and was thinking either

    1)Krul to Van Der Sar
    or
    2)Carr to Rafael/Vidic

I would not normally waste 6.3 on a goalie but I'm thinkinf VDS might be a decent short term solution until I wildcard in Jan and that it would mean I'd have a solid goalie in my nets.

What do you guys think? All help is warmly received.

    Cheers

Robinson could keep a clean sheet, so no need to sub him out. Rather go with the Carr -> Rafael/Vidic switch.

I was thinking that myself- but a lot will hinge on whether Samba returns otherwise is there is going to be a big gap in the middle of their defence

What would your defence look like for each sub?

          Robinson
          Cole/Kolarov/Vidic

          vs

          VdS
          Cole/Kolarov/Cahill?

First one looks a lot stronger imho

            Yeah I'd agree with that.

I'm going to have to address my goalkeeping situation but perhaps it can wait a week or two.

Thanks for your advice IlamaZA, I will most definitely take it on board!

I said on here yesterday that despite leading my cup tie 30:6, its gonna be close. I had Coleman & Kolarov to come and he had Howard, Distin & Cahill (emergency capt.) to come. The rest is history - lost 36:40

Well that was a great gameweek wasn’t it, I really enjoyed it. We must have more of these more often.

All of those teams with Everton investment was great to see. Especially considering they hadn’t won a game in ages, can’t score goals for toffee (ahem) and were away at a side challenging for the title. All of those Cahill and Baines captain shouts coming to fruition after the postponements, especially off peoples benches, were a sight to behold. Genius.

For the record I am not bitter. At all.

This is FPL's version of the FIFA world cup bidding process- i.e. massively flawed......

You're telling me that Cahill & Baines aren't solid choices, near the top of the form tables?

The captain thing, ye that was lucky on many peoples behalfs, but its an 11 point swing at the best (compared to Tevez captain, which is equally daft considering that Everton aren't exactly leaky, and he's not 100% mentally).

Ilamaza, take it with a pinch of salt, it is just frustration with the law and a bit of bad luck. Baines has been playing well and deserves all of the plaudits he has been getting. I hate Tim Cahill, the man is a cretin a best - albeit one remarkably skilled in the air. He has also let me down before in terms of FPL and he is very expensive in my eyes. I thought Tevez was a good a shout as any this week considering he was confirmed to be training and in the manages thoughts despite all of the transfer request fiasco. He was close to scoring and assisting last night too, its just you win some and you lose some (to be fair, I’d like to win some now!)

Looks like I'll have to get rid of Kolo Toure, sharpish. Any defender suggestions for 6.4 million?

    My defence is:

    K. Toure - Samba (injured?) - Bardsley - A. Cole - Ridgewell

Pity, I can't really afford Leighton Baines. May go for Jagielka.
