Carlos Tevez has withdrawn his formal transfer request after “clear the air talks” with Roberto Mancini and the club.

The news comes just hours before Tevez is due to take the field for City against Everton in a game which could see Mancini’s side climb to the summit of the Premier League.

In an official club statement City announce that “Carlos expressed his absolute commitment to the Club and formally withdrew his transfer request.”

A delighted Roberto Mancini went a stage further…

“Carlos is a world class player whose contribution since he joined the Club has been invaluable. I am pleased that we are now able to focus on pure football matters and to be able to look forward to Carlos continuing to play a significant role in the Club’s progress.”

The news comes as a major boost for City and for Fantasy owners of Carlos Tevez. The Argentine will presumably now wear the captain’s armband in tonight’s game.

Expect Tevez to crash back into our Watchlist rankings in tomorrow’s update.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Dunno. He never had any pace, so that wouldn't be missing. It would give Clev a chance to complete his loan and get more expierence ala Welbeck. Valencia won't be back till march i'd guess. Park is missing in the asia cup. We don't have a free kick specialist for when nani dives, sorry gets fouled outside the area.

All right all right guys, not five time perhaps. But it is a huge difference in quality to me.

We're talking about two REAL world class players and one player who had a few good years and then lived off his name.

After his first good years he could never do anything against any team who had a defensively decent winger. He was still very dangerous from set pieces of course.

Agree....his life has a long way to go........bobby robson got his virtually on his death bed!! He was part of a strong Man U team that did win things - but not as much as ryan giggs? He went to spain - didnt really set the place alight then went into semi retirement in USA.

Yes 1 free kick v Greece apart his England career was not really brilliant.......Lifetime Achievements??? It must be his regular sexual encounters which he seems to brush off without any issues (kind like Tiger Woods did for years).

Nobody said he was actually physically going. Only he wanted to.

But how would the Premier League make a wage cap work?

I mean there would be a huge risk that the best players would stop going to England if they could earn more elsewhere. And I wouldn't want that.

Would just lead to under the table payments. The amounts players are getting paid aren't the problem (you can demand double your wages at 10k or 100k a week), more the influence of naughty agents.

Fans can do their part by not sucking up to the mercenary players as soon as they sign/score.

              *sigh* another subtle dig.

Fans will cheer their own teams goals whatever, that's natural, because it's the team that wins not only the player.

AP - one thing I've noticed from following a few Utd fans on twitter, is that they are completely incapable of ever saying anything positive about Fabregas. Every time he ever does anything the haterz come out in full force slagging him off...

                I reckon it's jealously.

This. They would just work around it. If they capped players wages at 50k a week then players would have all sorts of 10k a day "training bonuses" and things like that.

The fact the tax band is so high, is it 40 percent im not sure as opposed to 5 percent in spain is a factor. Hundred grand a week shud be the max wage a player brings home.

That was called the Beckham Law in Spain as they changed the tax bands to attract foreigners. Think they've ditched it now.

They'd just go around the cap by making 12 year contracts etc. like in the NHL. To every action there's a reaction.

I'm ambivalent about Tevez tonight as I have him but not as captain. 4 points would be perfect to justify my MGP captaincy. Although I'd also be happy with a big haul for the sake of my H2H and my cup game.

The news means one less thing to worry about in my squad selection over the coming weeks.

Cant help but thinking with ALL the focus for tonights game on the weather and the Tevez saga, that Everton may spring a suprise... 0-1, Cahill with Baines assist.

Or is this just hopeful thinking? (I own Baines and Kolorov... ideally would love a 0-0!)

I think it will be tight, Everton will be going in there on a mission too. 0-1 to Everton isn't beyond a doubt, but it would also not be ridiculous for Tevez to do well the day that's in it

Just b4 i pop out to get some diner (incase anyone thinks im avoiding some point in the next 30min)

Anyone else think this Tevez statement is a nice bit of PR by City and Tevez people.

ie. Whether Tevez wants to stay, has changed his mind etc let just agree to state in public everything is grand and he is a city player, no problems etc.

Then deal with it in private. While keeping the fans on board and saving face for both Tevez and City.

And it all just happened to occur 2 hours b4 city played their first home game since his statement.
