Santa has well and truly come early for the eagle-eyed Fantasy Manager. Five of last weekend’s seven postponed fixtures have been confirmed as re-plotted onto the calendar, while the other two look like they may have a date down as well. Jackpot…

We start with Aston Villa visiting Wigan which has now moved to January 25 and will inevitably slot into Gameweek 24 with the previously rescheduled visit of United to Blackpool. This will give Wigan (FUL, ars/AVL, wba, BLA) a set of fixtures that looks inviting on the goals front while Aston Villa (bir, MCY/wig, mun, FUL) aren’t gifted quite so kindly with a run to go with that double helping of gametime.

Next up is Birmingham City who have rescheduled their home tie with Newcastle for February 15, placing that into the territory of Gameweek 27. McCleish’s men (MCY, whm, STK/NEW, che) won’t be in the kindest run they’ve ever seen with those City and Chelsea games providing a tough sandwich, while Newcastle (ful, ARS, bla/bir, BOL) are equally unlucky on the front of being afford a double Gameweek in one of their “high” spells.

Then we have three more games rescheduled for Gameweek 27 as Blackpool vs Spurs, Arsenal vs Stoke and West Brom vs Wolves have all been assigned a game on February 22. This will be a long double gameweek.

Initial standouts on inspection of that bunch are, of course, Arsenal who will have four home games in four Gameweeks (WIG, EVE, new, WOL/STK); heavy investment in Wenger’s men seems likely. Spurs’ trip to Blackpool is with a tough trip to Wearside and inbetween what will be two important home ties versus Bolton and Arsenal – challenging.

If Blackpool can keep their pitch in order, they will also now see a crazy run of games (SUN/MUN, WHM, eve, AVL/TOT) at Bloomfield road. That’s five home games in six, though certainly not the easiest, and two double Gameweeks almost within touching distance. Fellow promoted side West Brom will also attract investment in their cheaper wares as the Baggies tie their fixture with a home game against West Ham (WIG, mcy, WHM/WOL), that’ll be a double header versus the Premier Leagues bottom two sides.

No official announcements have yet been made on the other two postponed fixtures (Liverpool vs Fulham and Chelsea vs Man United) but the normally pretty reliable BBC seems to have added the latter to their calendar on March 1 in their calendar (Gameweek 28) and the former on January 26th (Gameweek 24). If these prove solid sources – it is the BBC, I’d be pretty hopeful they are – then Liverpool will have five home games (WOL, BOL, bla, EVE, wol/FUL, STK) in six gameweeks following their trip to Blackpool on Boxing Day – all of a sudden I need Fernando Torres back. The top of the table clash meanwhile comes at stringent times for both Chelsea and United, which might make it a little easier to avoid banking on all of the budget busters available.

Expect a more thorough analysis of these new games to come from the team in the New Year as the double fixtures get a little closer. Given that the new “second wildcard” rule comes into effect from Gameweek 23-27, strategists may want to plan accordingly. One thing is for sure, transfer activity will surely rocket.

      Hi and welcome.

Good team. Got anything in the bank? No chance you can do Ridgewell->Kolarov I suppose?

I would also consider saving a transfer with that team tbh.

RDM's previous comments suggest that while Brunt will play if fit, the likelihood of him being fit for all 4 of the seasonal games is slim.

That link only states he's good for Sunday. I'd expect a rest in 1 or more of the other games. Mind you, a booking would enforce that anyway with a 1 game ban.

I think VDV will play full 90, he had more than enough time to recover from his injury and there was no setback, he's in full training and Arry needs him badly.

My bet is VDV to destroy Villa - have him as C! 🙂

Hey, I posted this on the last thread but this one was released pretty much straight away afterwards. Would appreciate anyone shedding some light on it.

I’m a little confused about some of the talk about using your wildcard to take advantage of the double gameweeks – if people only have one left, aren’t they then going to be left with a wildly unbalanced team, which would have to be fixed at some expense in the subsequent weeks? Or are all the excited people those with both wildcards left, planning on using them in consecutive weeks? I’m new to the game, played mine a few weeks ago, might have held on if I’d realised this was the case!

For example: people were saying, oh West Brom have a good DGW I’ll get 3 of their players on the wildcard, but after that they have Arsenal, Liverpool, Sunderland, Chelsea and Spurs in a row. And that’s just one of the teams people are looking to profit from.

you dont WC ur team to have only players who have games in the double game week..u make changes based on double gameweek players and there future games

if ur gna end up taking loads of hits it wont help

I find* the beauty of a 'spare' wildcard is in being able to reset an unbalanced team.

My likely strategy would be to make my team increasingly unbalanced over a number of weeks in preparation for the juicy fixtures, then use the WC at the end to rebalance it.

*I've never actually found this, but it's what I imagine would happen if I didn't splurge my WC inside the first 5 weeks every season....

You probably won't see this as it was too long ago, but I would advise against that tactic since after the big DGW the wildcard will have expired...

Dont get misled with all these double gameweeks. It doesnot always pay to end up with 11 double gameweeks players. I tried it last year and it backfired.

A red card, injury & rotation can still result in double gw plans going down the drain. Not to mention the unbalanced side for the next gw.

Pick your players carefully and most importantly your capt.

    Rooney Torres Piquionne

    1.8 in the bank

Welbeck's being recalled too isnt he?! As I said, I agree with Kolarov over Boetang due to his attacking potential and appart from Cleverly like the rest of your team.

                  Would certainly keep VDV,Nani,Tevez,Carrol,Yaya,Vidic,Baines,Bardsley.

      Drogba on bench vs Arsenal?

If the Liverpool game is off it'll sort you out... Konchesky out Drogba in (3-4-3), but it's brave benching the Drog.

    Shock!
    Andy justifies buying Torres.

    (Take 1,242,542,566,674,232,147,887,444.)

Presuming the full set of 40 fixtures are not completed in the next 2 weeks, the impending fixture carnage in January/February could just grow and grow.
    Good news.

I have Torres too. I don't see the sense in transferring him out when Pool have two tasty home games on the horizon. Pool also have Gerrard back which should help Nando get a few more chances. I'm sticking!

Two city defenders, which 1 doesn't play much, gerrard konch and Torres won't play. Knight is away, I'd bench the three Liverpool and take out boateng for a home defender, hopefully who will have a she soon too

Should be around 9.5-10 mill. IMO.

I sometimes wonder why prices don't change faster. Who would pay 5.7 mill for a player like Carlton Cole at the moment? Whilst Wellbeck is at 5.1? If Cole was below 5, I guess more people would take a chance. But then again, only 1.2 % own Cole.

            Haha.

10 goals in 30 games last season, I can understand the pre-season pricing and that some (mostly West Ham fans) wanted to give him a try.

Now, with 1 goal in 18 games, that's another story...

    Hi Guys

Any ideas and suggestions most welcome

    Foster (Friedel)
Dann / Vidic / Big Greek / Clichy / (Onuoha)
    Nani (c) / Nasri / Yaya / MGP / (Adams)
    Davies / Carrol / (Torres)

Obviously my starting line up will vary depending if the Blackpool liverpool game goes ahead in which case i would probably start torress as he has had enough games weeks off to finally produce a good showing this season one would hope.

Transfer ideas (2 free transfers and 4.5 mil in the bank)

Friedel > Gordon or stockdale when schwarzer goes to asia cup maybe leave this for one maybe two more weeks?
    Clichy > Kolarov?
Nasri > Lamps next week? as chelsea have a much better run than arsenal over the coming weeks
Kevin Davies > Wlebeck or Bent next week as sunderland have a nice run as well

    Any help much appreciated guys

Given the 2nd wildcard can be used 24 to 27 and 27 has quite a few doubles presume that means we can have a double game loaded team by 27 and then immediately wildcard to sort out team to be more balanced.
