Yes it’s that time again, when I traditionally lay a Christmas wreath on my Fantasy team and pray for a resurrection come Easter time. This year however, I’d be accused of burying my team alive – I’m sure Mark will be the first to agree – I’ve had a decent year so far.

This week though, I’ve felt like a Norfolk turkey who’s had the stuffing knocked out of him and good old Mark is in the same gravy boat. Fate wasn’t content enough to wipe out all but 4 of my players (5 for Mark), it decided to go further and lay bare the lottery of the Fantasy Premier League emergency captain. Then, to cap a bad week, our mini league rival ‘Ben the lurker’ drops a Christmas card on our desks that had as much festive goodwill as Boxing Day heartburn.

So now we’ve decided to join forces to defeat the foe on a number of fronts, an unholy alliance that has as much credence as a Carlos Tevez contract.

        kind of funny. Barcelona are soooo arrogant though, would love to see them get smashed into oblivion by arsenal or real or somebody.

        Unfortunately when they're not cheating they're incredibly good at football, so it's hard to see it happening.

        Cheers, was thinking about Malouda, i haven't benched him yet this seson though, so it would be so typical for him to smash a few in!

        Doubling up on Arsenal is my bias coming through, may not be the smartest move but i'm not sold on alternatives yet and feel happy with more players from the team i want to do well - if that makes sense!

      Get some better defenders you lack United and City defenders. Kolarov/Rafael are good options to have.

      Nasri and Fabregas in the team is too much imo. Get one of them out for VDV, Gerrard or Lampard.

      Downgrade Bale for a -6m midfielder like Nzogbia or Yaya if you need money

    I've been thinking. Can't FFS do a "wdget" that picks your team and captain for you each week based on the undoubtedly knowledgable comments posted here?

    It would certainly cut down on server strain and such like.

    I usually stream the scoutcast, but I'm trying to download it from itunes so that I can listen to it on the train tomorrow. Problem is, I cannot find ep 44 -the latest one they have listed is ep 43. Someone said earlier that it was on itunes a couple of hours ago... am I looking in the wrong place?

    Unrelated question:

    Playing fifa 11 online and people quit every time i'm winning, it pretty much sucks the fun out of playing online.

    Is there a way around this? Presumably once your level gets a bit better then you encounter the quitters less - but does your level go up when people just quit on you all the time?

      I am not sure about Fifa 11 yet (Will tell you this time next week). Whenever I left a game for dinner etc. (I am not one of those noobs), on Fifa 10, it said that it counts as a 3-0 loss, for Fifa 10 that was, Not sure about 11.

      there should be a ban for frequent quitters.... the odd "mrs switching the power off" and "internet problems" are ok but those who just quit because they are losing should be banned, fined and hanged (maybe not that far)

        I once, very slyly, used a "power's gone" excuse when playing a mate. This is just one of the many stories of why my mates hate playing me at anything (because I'm a bit of a nob head). We used to play FIFA 2003 all the time and I used to keep score, not because it was close but as punishment for my mate insisting he would improve and beat me. The score was about 95-3 in games to me and I was on the verge of losing just #4 of nearly 100 games. Rather than take the defeat like a man, I kicked the plug out of the socket without my mate looking, and claimed it a no contest. My mate was devastated. How shameful is that? I'm the worst loser ever, and equally a bad winner.

      If your opponent quits you get the automatic win.

      There is a slight "bug" with the game in that it doesn't update your new ranking on the FIFA in-play screen, but your ranking does change, and updates next time you play. I've selected to get emailed every time I play online and it gives the new rankings.

      Yes it does!!! Your brain links left and right sounds like it does everything else. You tell your brain to move your left hand and it does, etc. By switching the speakers round you run the risk of teaching your brain the opposite of what it is used to. Then when you send messages from your brain to your body, e.g. move left hand, it will move your right hand instead. True story.

      H2H is like one of the cups i believe...so either the FFS or FPL cup where you go head 2 head vs another person

      if you click on fantasy cup on the left of the barclays game youll see your progress...sadly you were knocked out last week 20-11 but as its your first time dont worry

            I actually agree that arsenal wont cut open chelseas defence but how well man utd controlled them has no bearing on this at all. Sir alex just totally tactically outclassed wenger as he so often does and the man utd back four were outstanding i honestly dont think anyone barring barcelona would have scored that day and even barca would have struggled.

      Stop whinging about the emergency captain rule just because ye didn't get lucky last weekend. The rules are fine as they are.

      - I fancied him to score in that match considering the amount of goals he has scored against City in the last few seasons.

        you got cahill as captain...even if i got cahill as captain i wouldnt be happy with the rule there is no skill involved its just chance and a huge lot of luck

        some people intentionally abuse the rule by putting it on form and captaining players who are injured just to get it switched to the form player with the highest points and when it gives u 30-50 points its disgraceful

          Obviously you don't know the rules with that statement. "The form player" with the "highest points" doesn't even come into it as the form value is taken when the gameweek starts.

            usually the "in form player" will get the highest points

            last year the form and value player always went to lampard and in 2 weeks he got 27 and 18 so you would have racked up 54 and 36 points in 2 weeks without ever captaining him

            its very fair

              If Lampard scored 2 points, would this be an issue? He was always going to be a vice captain for many sides. Both time the emergency captain for some sides has scored well. Big deal, time to get over it. I never had Lampard that week & I thought it was fair. I had Cahill in my team but went value & got Tevez. That's the way the cookie crumbles.

          You can't abuse the rule, because it goes to the player with the highest form before the GW.. The rule is a complete joke though.

                    Every gameweek? Most weeks your captain plays. Grasping at straws I think. The best idea for me would be that your captain can't be on the bench at the start of gameweek.

                  Maybe you should make sure you have 1 player that never plays & captain him every week. I bet you the emergency captains will have plenty of bad weeks.

              This must have been because the form player going into that gameweek must have scored 15. You cant abuse the rule in the way you are describing or in any other way. I agree with superdorrans however that the rule is absolute shite

                If your captain does not play then he will be automatically substituted in accordance with the rules at the end of the gameweek. A new captain, either the player with the highest form or price value at the start of the gameweek, will then be selected based on your emergency captain strategy.

      Probably Bardsley. I have Onuhua as I believe he offers more attacking threat, and better BP options, however, he is likely to be at centreback for a few weeks which dampens his potential.
