Yes it’s that time again, when I traditionally lay a Christmas wreath on my Fantasy team and pray for a resurrection come Easter time. This year however, I’d be accused of burying my team alive – I’m sure Mark will be the first to agree – I’ve had a decent year so far.

This week though, I’ve felt like a Norfolk turkey who’s had the stuffing knocked out of him and good old Mark is in the same gravy boat. Fate wasn’t content enough to wipe out all but 4 of my players (5 for Mark), it decided to go further and lay bare the lottery of the Fantasy Premier League emergency captain. Then, to cap a bad week, our mini league rival ‘Ben the lurker’ drops a Christmas card on our desks that had as much festive goodwill as Boxing Day heartburn.

So now we’ve decided to join forces to defeat the foe on a number of fronts, an unholy alliance that has as much credence as a Carlos Tevez contract.

Alot of question recently about VDV & protection. Here are my views.

VDV was over 100% when his protection ended meaning he needs at least 200% to rise. Sometime in the next 3 days seems the time for a rise.

Here is a link to explain price changes better.

Slow down on the transfers buddy. You have done 3 allready so I'm not sure how your team looks, but I can't see how you can bench him if you still have Torres, who probably wont plat this week.

Risky, but make him your first sub if you do, as Torres game may get called off.

I'm considering a move that most people would consider equally mad. Hart to Van der Saar.

Nice, loading up on gw24 keeper.

Really going to be tough avoiding Liverpool players like SG/Torres over the next 7 weeks.

How everyone is going to fit into my team I don't know.

Gerrard is interesting, but I think a tad expensive for me.

I also like Utd's fixtures over next 6 weeks and VdS is definitely not going to be rotated (unlike Rafael).

I have Kolarov and doubling up on Citeh defence hasn't been such a great idea lately so spreading the wealth with VdS seems to be the best option for Man Utd defence.

It's funny. You Poms probably want to get out of the snow and cold. But I wanna get out of Australia. After having a cold Christmas last year in London, I don't even feel like Christmas is coming and it's Christmas Eve.

At least our cricket team is better.

Tell me about it. Been here 5 years now, and Christmas in Oz is just wrong. Mind you I'd rather spend Cristmas day relaxing in the pool, than huddled roud the fire trying to keep warm.

Your Cricket team is better than what exactly?.

Better than they were in the last 2 tests?

      Better than England?

We shall see how well you have doctored the wicket in Melbourne.

I had this same argument with some guy at the Victoria Market from the Barmy Army. You guys really can't call yourselves England. You've got a lot of South Africans. You've got something closer to a World XI than an English XI. Except your not the best in the world.

Doctored? You read the Daily Telegraph too much.

Do you honestly believe that England going from something like 1100/7 in consecutive innings to <300 for 20 had nothing to do with the wicket?

I'm almost with you on the South Africa thing, excpet you sjhouldn;t confuse being born in south Africa with being South African.

But pitches are different around the world. We like our pitches that carry through to the keeper. You guys keep a nippy pitch in England. But the Indians and Pakistanis, they ALWAYS doctor the pitch for themselves. That's something we can agree on

Both teams played on that pitch. Johnson and Harris turned up the heat. The Perth pitch has always been trouble for England.

Mate England fell apart which was always going to happen, a matter of when not if. These ashes seem more about which team will crumble and throw it away first as neither sides can sustain any sort momentum atm.

Pretty sure England weren't complaining about the pitch after bowling Australia out on Day 1 and being 0/78 before the big collapse.

Why next week? If you do it this week you'll get 2 out of 3 games most likely, next week you'll probably get 1 out of 2. If you're worried about rest then this week is the week to get him cos he's just had plenty of rest.

I've been playing around with my team for the last 20 minutes and it's doing my head in. Team right now is:

    Krul (Carson)
    Ferdinand Kolarov Samba (Gohouri Bardsley)
    Cesc Nani Bale Albrighton (Adam)
    Tevez Drogba Piquionne

These are the trades that I've been playing around with my team: Krul->VDS or Reina, Ferdinand->Rafael (or someone else if VDS is in), Bale->VDV, Cesc->Gerrard, Piquionne->Odemwingie, Tevez or Drog->Torres.

Can someone unscramble through my thoughts and give me a little feedback? It kills you doing this sort of thing but it's so addictive. Go figure

I'm hideously drunk so follow my advice.
I'm unconvinced by Rafael, not as a player, but as a fantasy prospect. there is always the rotation risk and he is too expensive (for a defender) for that. second transfer is good I guess, Liverpool players are fairly unpredictable. be easier if you linked your team etc.
Definitely upgrade Balotelli. Despite his obvious talent, the guys an idiot.

Wait till last minute, weather could easily play a part. Long term your defence looks hideously expensive. Downgrade there and upgrade Bale to Vdv when fit. I think your front 8 needs a bit of work and I'm in no position to work out what to do. These two post are my good deeds for the day. Morning campers, got a few early mornng FF thoughts floating around today. Realtor this week:

    Foster, (Krul)
    Kyriakos, Coleman, Rafael, (Jara), (Kolarov)
    Nani, Pederson, N'Zogbia, Cahill, (Nasri)
    Drogba, Carroll, Tevez

Have 2 free transfers and kore money than I wish to have sitting in the bank. Was thinking of doing:

Nasri -> VDV then dropping N'Zogbia to the bench instead. Good idea?

Also anyone thinking of playing Kolarov instead of Rafael?

Tough call. I personally think Kolorov is going to hammer it eventually with some attacking bonus' but who knows. I think Liverpools gane will be off so that should make it easier for you. Plus. even if it wasn't. I'd bench Greek Spelling mistake over Kolorov..
wait a week for Vdv maybe? Havent Wigan got a reasonably good game? I havent checked. Maybe change kyriagos as I think Skrtl(sp) is back which will affect him. Enjoy this essay.

Just a little thought for you guys to ponder this morning.

This will be the first time VDV has ever had to play a season where he doesn't get a Christmas break. He would find it extremely hard to do 3 games before new years and a lot of games after January. His body will probably break down just after New Years. Same can be said for Chamakh, Dembele, Odemwingie etc.

I'd get VdV in by next weekend though. I imagine he will definitely play the home games and he has 2 of them in a row after boxing day.

I think he strikes me as the sort of player who wants to play every week anyway and he's not played for a month, so I don't know about him being rested or breaking down over this period, to a honest with you.

I don't understand the argument that if VdV is going to be rested then it's best to get him next week, surely it's better to get him this week then you get 2 out of 3 games rather that 1 out of 2, and that's IF he's rested which I'm not convinced he will be.

Thanks for the reply, yes the zog is away to wolves and IMO due a big game but wigan are pretty attrocious. If I get VDV in before the inevitable price rise then
It leaves me just enough in the bank to bring lampard in for Cahill should lamps show any form whatsoever. Have been waiting, like most on here, for one of the big players to show some of last seasons form so maybe lamps is that player? Of course any plans I have had this season any longer than 1 GW have all changed for one reason or another so Iay just batten down the hatches and see what happens.

what to do you reckon to these transfers:

    either

    or
    Arshavin out and Nani in

Then possibly collocinni out for either Distin, Kolorov or Hangeland

            🙂

Not much football on TV on Christmas day though, and by boxing day they will all be good again and then I will have to see them then and miss all the football.

            It's a no-win situation.

I'll just sit here all day dishing out fantasy advice for the other poor souls with no friends or family.

Hey all, been playing around with my team for last 2 days and can't decide what to do. Team right now is:

    Hart (Carson)
    Baines Kolarov Konch (Ivan, Dann)
    Nani MGP N'Zog Cahill (Nasri)
    Tevez Carroll K Davies

Have 2 frees and want to start getting MUN players in for DGW and clean sheet potential so thinking Rafael and need to get Cahill out in a couple of weeks time. Don't want to lose a free but really notcsure what to do forth best!

    Help please!!!

maybe get Ivan out for Rafeal if you really want to get MUN players.. or Hart for VDS as you already have kolarov for Man city defensive cover. Also think about getting rid of K Davies as Boltons fixtures arent great after this gw.. maybe for Welbeck ?

Yeah, had been thinking that last one, which frees up some cash too. Will do after this GW though I think. Can't decide which def to take out. Ivan's a good call but like having Chelsea cover just in case and their fixtures improve.

Yeah I will be doing the same with Elmander.. Sunderland have some juicy home fixtures! Well... you have to get rid of someone!! I had the same problem when getting in Kolarov.. had to get rid of one of my defenders but didnt want to sell Rio or Konch or Baines so just got rid of one of my cheapies... but you already have a very expensive defence!

Exactly Dann's the best to go but there is more than enough money invested in my defence already! Not my usual game plan so feels uncomfortable! Has been good value there though with expensive forwards and miss failing. Favouring Ivan I think at mo but VDS for Hart could be a good shout instead.

Great team. Anything in the bank?

I'd seriously consider saving both free transfers otherwise. No need to fix what is not broken.

I've done 0 transfers when having 2 frees several times this season, it's not the end of the world.

Bob/Gargamel - I will keep you guys company until the family arrives.

Im also considering doing 0 transfer. Reason being I'm not sure I want to bench NZogbia vs Wolves. Eventhough it's away, I have a good feeling about him this week.

VDV is the flavour of the week it seems and he is bound to rise in the next day or two. Worth getting him? I've never had him in my team this season.

The double gw's in week 24 is confusing me even more Spurs are playing Newc(a)that week, while SG/Adam/Nzog/Nani/fabregas/Arteta all have juicy games where they may score much more than him.

          Ideas?

I fancy N'Zog vs Wolves too. VDV I've considered too, but I can see Arry resting him or limiting his match time with so many games in so few days, especially for a DGW.

Yeah Wolves defence isnt great and nzog is due a big one!! Although you never know with Wigan.. but it doesnt really matter what team nzogbia is playing for he could still smash in a few!!

With regard to VdV there is no way I am getting him in anytime soon.. I will wait until the xmas period is over and probably get him in for the WC.. however he is a must have until the end of the season!! But too many games at once at the moment and Arry is not stupid he wont overplay him he doesnt want another injury.

Its hard to think of anyone else tho... You are going to have to dump Cahill soon ?

Bob - Cahill needs to go soon. Ive realised the last couple of days by reading FFS, that it's no use to have a attacking front 8 and then not being sure who to bench. I hate big points on the bench.

It's amazing how many teams have Fabregas AND Nasri! Camsy always says you need to have a cheap midfielder(I have Ferguson) and Im seeing the light!

So, what im trying to say is that im prob going to dump Cahill very soon, even next week prior to him leaving and then hanging on to Ferguson as my cheap midfielder instead of doing Ferg -->VDV and then not knowing who to bench.

yeah thats true.. im sticking with Nasri personally.. Fabregas just keeps getting injured and Nasri is on wonderful form! Hoping that that move pays off because alot of people are getting rid of Nasri and i am not sure why!

Well my original plan was to play 3-5-2 and have 5 good mids and one strong forward and rotate the second forward.. I think I am going to stick wit that and if I need to drop a mid have 4 good defenders and possibility to play 3 attackers too. Going to stick with this plan and rotate Carrol and Welbeck after this Gw until WC.

                Good luck anyhow 🙂

I won't personally start planning for the doubles just yet. If you can get players in who have good fixtures AND doubles then fine, but getting people in now just for the doubles is no good imo.

I think VDS might be all right, but I would probably rather go with Rafael if I wanted a cheapish United defender.

If your link is right you do have P Jones though. You'll have to get rid of him sooner or later.

Oh, and N'Zog is good for this week.

Gargamel - yes PJones needs to go next week. Most likely for Bardsley.

Im still "stuck" with Zorba the Greek as well. Bad transfer.

I agree on the doubles. Not planning for them yet, just thinking Liverpools(Gerrard/Torres) fixtures suddenly has come a lot better with gw 24 being a double. 5/7 at home!

Thing with VDV is he has not played for a while and is returning form inj. Talk is he might be rested over the Festive Season.

There are just so many midfielders I want for gw24, that I cant see how he will make my side.

So, out of these 5, which 2 to bench please?

Nasri to Van De Vaart this week and then playing:
    Robinson
    Knight Coleman Kolorov
    Fabregas VdV Nani(c) Nzogbia
    Carroll Tevez Drogba
    Subs: Foster, Yaya, Konchesky, Simpson

That all look ok? (or should i play yaya over Nzog...or even keep both nasri and cesc?)

Hi guys, I'm pretty happy with my team but could use some advice on who to bench. I have 1 free transfer this week and just 0.2M in the bank.

    Foster (Hart)
    Baines Foley Vidic (Onuoha Williamson)
    Etherington Nani MGP(c) Nasri (N'Zogbia)
    Tevez Carroll Bent

At the moment N'Zogbia is my biggest doubt to bench or not but I changed back and forth 200 times (with Etherington, Bent and Nasri).

I have a feeling Rooney is going to rip it up against Sunderland.

I have Torres Drogba Carroll, but if I did Torres > Rooney I'd want Torres back next week. Looks like I'll have to hope Nani gets in on the action to as (c) him.
