Liverpool football club confirmed the inevitable this morning with the announcement that Roy Hodgson has left the club “by mutual consent” (why can’t we just say sacked?). The official word from Liverpool’s new owner John Henry is as follows…

“We are grateful for Roy’s efforts over the past six months, but both parties thought it in the best interests of the club that he stand down from his position as team manager. We wish him all the best for the future.”

The departure of Hodgson was becoming more a case of when and not if over recent weeks and months, the home loss to Wolves was seen as the final straw by many but the late home win against Bolton seemed to offer Hogdson another late reprieve. Days later Blackburn so resolutely trumped Liverpool on Wednesday by three goals to one that the writing was quite literally on the wall…

What this now means is that [many of] the Liverpool fans now get what they wanted back in the summer with the added announcement that Kenny Dalglish has been granted temporary charge of team affairs. Dalglish starts with the FA Cup trip to Old Trafford and will stay in charge through to the end of the season. Club chairman Tom Werner said…

“No one who cares for this great club has been happy with the way this season has unfolded and we have examined options and considered at length what is best for us going forward. Kenny will bring considerable experience to the position and provide management and leadership for the rest of the season.”

Fans and Fantasy Managers alike were getting frustrated with the tactics employed by the now incumbent manager so it will be interesting to track exactly how the Merseyside legend attempts to bring his club back from the brink, having not managed for the past decade the size of task on his hands must not be under-estimated.

In Fantasy Football terms, Liverpool have a decent run of games (EVE, wlv/FUL, STK, che, WIG) having been Frisked just days ago which, in combination with the impetus often following a new managerial appointment, may provide renewed vigour when it comes to investing in a Liverpool side that has disappointed more often than not to date. With the club in the midst of their own double-gameweek, and with an FA Cup tie to play tomorrow, managers will have time to assess how and if anything has clearly changed over these two games before we enter our next gameweek.

The picture of Liverpool’s defence will have many questions that need answering as the likes of Konchesky and Aurelio will be vying for their new managers favour and Daniel Agger hoping to get a smoother ride than he seemingly faced under Hodgson. The 12% of Fernando Torres owners and 10% of Steven Gerrard proprietors will be hoping King Kenny also adopts a more attacking formation last seen in the Benitez era which will be built around Liverpool’s two star players as opposed to the rugged 4-4-2 we have been seeing somewhat stifle them this season.

Those already on the Liverpool bandwagon hope the club will bring a spark with them to Blackpool on Wednesday to boost their first double-gameweek of the season; but for now, we wait, and watch.

Haha, he has been making some very strange decisions recently, playing players out of position, not playing certain players etc. It's all becoming a bit too much like under Mowbray for my liking, we have Blackpool, Blackburn & Wigan in our next three games, if we don't get at least 4 points I think our chairman will act.

He nearly got rid of Mowbray last time in Febuary, he is going to be more ruthless this time as he knows it is our best chance of survial ever.

Di Matteo could get ye sacked and Chairman would be foolish to get rid of him. He is excellent

Btw some top notch Journos from euorpe say WBA on board room level is an excellent ran club. They are aware DI Mat is gona move on one day and already have managers lined up when needed over next year or 2.

I know he's a talented manager but if results don't improve, it will seem we are in free fall and we can't really afford to be relegated again. I'm confident he can get us out of this mess at the moment and keep us up anyway.

I know, apparently us and Everton are the best two run clubs in the country or something like that. Dan Ashworth our Director of Football is magnificent, he basically scouts all year long for players and future managers, apparently Di Matteo had been tracked since he took the job at MK Dons.

Id blame the lack of players , bad run of injuries and few options to replace a tired odemwingie if ye go down.

Di Matteo wouldnt take too much blame for me. He has all the makings of a very good manager thus far.

I know, I haven't been too impressed recently and last time I backed Mowbray right until the end of the season but seeing as this is realistically our best chance of survial if we aren't getting the results and on a slope we need to act and just get in a more experienced manager.

I don't believe were in free fall yet however, so we'll see after the next three games!

Nice effort really. U will have problem with your goalkeepers in long term and I am not certain about Kolarov, I remember he was benched and for his national team so it seams that Zabaleta is above in the pecking order.

On the plus side I think that u are missing the top captain choices in next 3 GW. Just a thought.

      Drobga to Torres?

McClaren said that he'll do well in England as his style is suited- but he'll have to up his workrate, which suggests to me he might take a few games to realise it himself.

    Lads advice needed.

    Option 1:
Drogba and Barton out Fabregas (c) and Rodalega in - 4 point hit. Additional transfer for GW 24 one striker for the double. N Zog not included.

    Option 2:
Stay put this GW, difficult to pick a captain, could be Nasri or Drogs even VDV if I am inspired, but:
next GW double transfer Drogs and Barton out, Torres/Rooney/Berba in (Torres most probably) and save the point hit. But I think with next 2 and especially as a captain Fabregas will repay my gamble.

Option 3: F.ck it and wild card.

    Please which option and why?
    Cheers,

I really think anyone taking drogba out might regret it, they're gonna hit form sooner rather than later

U think? I am Chelsea fan since GW 24 and after Ray left us, we aren't half good as we were. From a passion Che fan, Dorgba is not worth 12.5m. This GW is the last chance for him in my team. Or maybe Wolves was the last one. The team has fallen apart. No bench no rotation, basically the same players. They all got tired and now the atmosphere is really bad. No winning spirit what so ever.

p.s. Toure never got to be the same player after that malaria thing. Maybe next year if he is valued 9.5m.

not for me he has had a massive ilness although Ancelotti did say 'malaria is not a serious ilness'

anyine wanting a punt should get on Lamps, I expect him to have a massive end of season.

WC with Fabs and Lamps downgrade strikers? not as mad as it seems

How many here are going to use their WC in GW26 & prepare for both GW27 & GW28 in the one go?

I will raise hand to that TM. If I resist it to wildcard this GW than I will hold till than.

Most of us have a similar defence. I would get rid of Bale personally. See what kind of team you can get with a -4 hit. That might be your best bet.

I'm planning on using my wildcard next week to sort out my defence and WC but the again i'm considering NOT using it.
    My midfield is:
    Nani Vdv Adam Fabs Nasri
Then for next week i'm going to sort out my defence and backline and trade one of my goalkeepers out but my team isnt that bad.
