Referred to by some as the “Berlin Wall” the mountain of a defender known as Robert Huth may need a new nickname – one to emphasise his attacking abilities rather than (or at least in addition to) his imposing defensive stature. Huth has emerged as Fantasy gold in the first half of the season – 4 goals, 2 assists, 5 Bonus Points and 4 clean sheets in 21 games, adding up to an impressive 76 FPL points.

Prior to his recent suspension for 5 yellow cards, Huth’s score had climbed to 5th highest amongst all defenders. He’s dropped slightly after sitting out a game and a 1-point performance against Man United, but Huth still ranks as the 9th defender overall and ranks 6th amongst all defenders in terms of value (his current 5.3 price translates into 14.3 FPL points per pound) trailing only to Everton’s Seamus Coleman, Sunderland’s Phil Bardsley and Elmohamady and Fulham’s Aaron Hughes and Brede Hangeland.

Stoke have quietly climbed to 10th place after a run that includes 5 wins and 2 draws in their last 10 games. Not surprisingly the Potters’ recent results have been tied to improved defensive performances that bode well for Huth and the rest of Stoke’s defensive players. Needless to say a total of 5 clean sheets on the season is far from impressive, but the more recent statistics show 4 clean sheets in the last 9 games tell a different (and more promising) story. Given the slow start, Stoke will not match last season’s total of 14 shut-outs, but there is every reason to believe that the past two months are more indicative of what we can expect the rest of the way from Tony Pulis’ defence.

There was some sell-off when he hit his suspension, but Huth has seen a deservedly steady flow of “transfers in” over the past two months. He is now owned by 8.5% of FPL teams and has seen his price increase to 5.3. By contrast teammate Ryan Shawcross started the season as the Stoke defender of choice and is still owned by 9.4% despite selling off that has seen his price drop to 4.7. It would be foolish to disregard Shawcross entirely given the price differential hat has developed between them. However, there is no denying that Huth has dominated so far and should continue to be a constant presence in the attacking area on corners, set plays and long throws.

The only reason Huth is not higher up the Watchlist at the moment is a mixed run of fixtures over the next month (BOL, ful, liv, SUN, bir/ars, WBM, whm, NEW). But this schedule provides some prospect for clean sheet returns and Huth’s attacking exploits make him available for Fantasy play even if defensive returns are unlikely. In terms of other considerations, FPL is still not awarding or deducting point for facial hair so that is a non-issue, but Huth does remain the subject of rumors about a potential January transfer. Stoke are saying that they do not need to sell and would seem unlikely to accept a £5m offer that is less than what was paid for Huth in the summer of 2009 but, in any event, a move would likely not hurt Huth’s Fantasy prospects this season even if it did occur.

    Hey,

Just read that Fernando Torres is a "45M target for Juventus".

Obviously this is TOTAL nonesense; the guy is a speculative loan candidate at best for any self respecting club.

Personally, I have higher values than others. I am SACKING him from my FF team tout suite; he's a waste of space and fresh air.

He's REALLY lost it hasn't he? He's FINISHED! WTF went wrong?

Personally, I reckon his attitude STINKS! He's like a SPOILT little girl.

He just kicked lumps and kept sayin sorry and shaking hands,he's gonna get some uprising one of these days!,hope they get done in the replay!

I noticed there were alot of niggly fouls but too far away to see whether most of them were bad or not. Wellens can be frustrating at times but he's been amazing for us recently, can pick out some awesome passes. Was very impressed with Sol Bamba too, i was a bit worried about a new centre back pairing for a game like this but he was a complete beast at both ends, if he can keep that up he'll be a good signing indeed.

I won't be expecting anything from the replay, just hope they give a good account of themselves like they did today, very happy with the performance!

Need to do Gerrard --> Nani. Which is more of a risk:
Doing the transfer now and hoping Nani doesn't get injured during the week
    OR
do the transfer on Fri/Sat in expense of price changes?

Don't have much experience on player values so not really sure how much Gerrard will fall and if Nani will rise.

Evening all - have pressed the wildcard button but of course still time to change - im MILES behind so not sure i want the same midfield as it seems everyone has - but same time i dont want to fall further behind.. oh i dont know - anyway - any opinions welcomed

    Foster (Stockdale)
Hangeland, Dann, Clarke (Ferdinand Rio, Coleman)
    Nani, Fabregas, Adam, Nasri Etuhu
    Berba, RVP (Campbell)

    2.5mill in the bank still

I know it looks silly benching Ferd and Coleman but I see their games as harder for next game week - of course will juggle and this squad gives me reasonable DGW coverage

    Cheers

The other bookies I've seen have settled bets on Kenny being the next Liverpool manager, you placed a bet on him being the next permanent manager, which he isn't at the moment. Sounds petty I know, but I'm afraid old Paddy is absolutely correct, you should read the terms of the bet properly before placing ya stake

Did you not read the conditions before making the bet? I was looking on Betfair when Rovers were after a new manager and it clearly stated the terms there and what would constitute a new manager. I'm pretty sure on their terms that Kenny would have counted as the 'next mananger' but you got to check before making the bet

Well I did and I thought I won (Betfair is far better at explaining what a winning bet is or is not).
Here were the erms and conditions:
        Win Only.
        Singles Only.
        Applies to permanent appointments only.
Temporary or part-time appointments don't count.
In the case of joint managers being appointed then dead heat rules will apply.

What is permanent and what is not?
No manager are appointed for life, I dont know why a 6month contract is permanent and a 2y contract is not.

As a bburn fan, you understand the situation. Kean was appointed temporary manager at first; then the owners said he would stay till the end of the season, that makes him the permanent manager of Bburb. No?

Temporary means for me that the manager is here for a couple of games until a proper manager arrives. Here we are talking about 5 months. One more point: other websites have settled the bet

Dalglish has been described everywhere as a 'temporary appointment'. The rules of your bet clearly stated that this would not qualify as a 'win'.

I can see why you're pissed off but i can only suggest you read the rules next time or maybe clarify them with the site.

Temporary manager means exactly that. Temporary until a specific date, then he either signs up permanently or someone else does. An individual who takes charge of a team for a few games while the club look for someone else is called a caretaker manager (this was Kean at Blackburn until he was given the job until the end of the season, he is now a temporary manager as Blackburn would obviosuly prefer someone of greater EPL stature to come in for a longer period)

I can see what you're getting at, but if a club give someone a 6 month deal it's not permanent as they're looking for someone else after the contract is up

Indeed. A 'permanent' manager isn't told (well not publicly at least) that he has the job until the end of the season and then they will reassess after that. He is usually given a contract of several years with no specific date for renegotiation

    Hi hi you all.

With Gerrard suspension I will have to replace him. I am also considering doing Tev to Roo for gw 24 so I have to free some cash for that. Which would U pick?

    A. Gerrard to Fabs and Kolarov to Hughes/Baird (4 point hit)
    B. Gerrard to Fabs and Vidic to Rafael (4 point hit)
    C. Gerrard to Nasri (no hit)

    Thanks.

Wild card team as late as possible what you think:

    Hart (Al Habsi)

    Djouruo Foley Evatt (Elokobi) (Gohouri)
    Fabs VDV Nani Ferguson (Muamba)
    Tevez Drogs Berb

You may have to downgrade a striker to sort out that offensively bad 4th/5th midfield combo!

        Yeah it is horrible.

How about Carrol and then Malouda and Barton?

Hey TM, what's the deal with Sportal this week, is it just a 1 game gameweek or is Liv Blackpool tagged on to next weekend?

Adam in Sportal isn't a great choice. CS don't occur, no bonus points etc.

I need to get rid of Dunn too so may aswell have him for a penalty or assist potential just for a few weeks.
