We’re still waiting for the “Dalglish factor” to kick-in as Kenny fails to inspire a recovery in Liverpool’s fortunes; the Reds the latest to suffer defeat at the hands of Ian Holloway’s Blackpool in last night’s Bloomfield Road encounter. In the Carling Cup meanwhile, Wenger shuffles his pack and watches on while Ipswich expose defensive flaws to take a 1-0 lead into the Emirates second-leg…

Dalglish sprung a few surprises with his lineup. In the absence of suspended skipper Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool boss brought in Christian Poulsen and Milan Jovanovic to the midfield, while Glen Johnson returned after the birth of his baby boy. None of the trio made an impression and their places look far from secure ahead of the Merseyside derby with Everton at the weekend. Maxi Rodriguez and Paul Konchesky were left on the bench along with David Ngog as Dalglish again went with Fernando Torres as the lone striker.

Johnson took up an unfamiliar left—back role with Dalglish opting to keep faith in young Martin Kelly at right-back after his showing in the narrow defeat to United on Sunday. Kelly duly rewarded that decision by providing the assist for Torres’ opener within three minutes. At 4.2 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Kelly has emerged as a very decent short-term consideration. He would seem likely to hold his start for the Everton game and could cement this role for Liverpool’s run of three home matches in the next four (EVE wol FUL STK).

While Kelly has potential, Liverpool’s defensive frailty remains a big problem. Gary Taylor-Fletcher navigated past Dan Agger too easily for Blackpool’s equaliser, while Ian Evatt demonstrated Liverpool’s lack of aerial power by providing the assist for an unmarked DJ Campbell to head the second-half winner.

Torres’ early strike gave him his seventh goal of the season and just his second in nine games. Dalglish went into this game promising to get the best from the Spaniard and, with those three Anfield encounters to come, there’s every chance that we will see the Torres goal ratio improve in the coming Gameweeks. With Gerrard absence through suspension for the next two however, Torres would be a gamble given his price, even with the double fixture in Gameweek 24.

DJ Campbell’s goal was his second of the Gameweek and his seventh of the season. Campbell has now scored 5 in 5 games, providing outstanding value for his 4.6 price tag. With his place seemingly secure in Ian Holloway’s lineup, he remains a good option for Blackpool’s continued run of home matches and the two additional double fixtures to come in Gameweeks 24 and 27. The Seasiders have 5 home matches in the next 7.

Charlie Adam remains the jewel in Holloway’s crown however. Predictably, the Scot came out of this match with another maximum 3 point Bonus haul, giving him a total of 5 over the two Gameweek fixtures. Adam has now amassed a staggering 30 Bonus Points over the season – his nearest rival, Carlos Tevez, is back on 23.

Incredibly Adam has scored Bonus in 6 of his last 8 starts, totaling 17 points in that run. He has not scored a single goal and returned just 1 assist in the 8 game spell, emphasising that Adam’s influence is so strong, he doesn’t need conventional Fantasy returns to catch the eye and earn the supplementary Bonus Points. The only potential caveat to holding Adam over the next month is his future at Bloomfield Road. The Blackpool skipper continues to be linked with other clubs, with Liverpool now amongst those coveting his services.

Arsenal’s Carling Cup defeat came as a surprise, even if the weekend struggle against Championship Leeds hinted that the Gunners would face a task at Portman Road. Arsene Wenger’s side failed to raise their game and dispatch of the Tractor Boys, slipping to a 1-0 defeat that will likely force Wenger to field an even stronger starting XI for the second-leg in a fortnight.

Last night’s lineup saw the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Andrey Arshavin, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott earn starts as Wenger chose to rest Samir Nasri, Robin Van Persie, Tomas Rosicky and Gael Clichy. Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere provided stability in central midfield, while Denilson came in for Alex Song in the holding role.

We can expect a full reshuffle for the weekend trip to Upton Park with Nasri, Van Persie, Clichy and Song all looking certain starters. Walcott and Arshavin’s starts look less secure and it seems likely that the two will rotate for the second half of the season, with Nasri swapping flanks accordingly. Up front the competition looks fierce, particularly if Wenger opts for a lone striker as expected. Bendtner failed to take his opportunity last night and remains below Van Persie and Marouane Chamakh in the pecking order.

Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny started in tandem at the back once again, with Sebastien Squillaci sidelined with a hamstring injury. That pairing look to be first choice, with Djourou providing potential with his 4.2 price tag. Wenger is in the market for a new centre-back however after Thomas Vermaelen’s recent setback in his recovery from a Achilles injury. Djourou’s potential could well be short-lived then, particularly given last night’s defensive showing.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I haven’t access to certain sites to do my own research at present, will do so later if nobody answers here.

Just wondered though, are the double gameweeks set in stone now in terms of 24 and 27?

I know Brum’s treble is in danger of disappearing due to a potential Carling Cup Final, but apart from that I am not so sure as to the specifics. My thinking at present is that the 24 fixtures are definites but the 27 ones are subject to FA Cup replays. Is this correct?

If anyone knows off the top of their head please give yourself a gold star and pat on the back.

Over GW 27 and 28 there should be a game on with a PL team for 15 out of 19 days or thereabouts. Lots of scouting 🙂

I think NZog might be the better call due to the uncertanty around Adam.

Hard to call who to bench though?

NZog at home to a poor travelling Fulham or the inform DJ against a leaky West Brom side?

Hi guys, this is my team for this GW:

        Foster,
        Kolarov,Coleman,D.Collins,
        Nani,Nasri,Adam,VdV(C),
        Drog,Tevez,Carroll.

        Subs: Krul,Barton,Jara,Evatt.

Don't want to make any transfers this week if Carroll is fit. Then next week I can do Drog->Torres,Carroll->Berba and Jara->Rafael for -4,or maybe Kolarov->Skrtel as well for -8,which will give me as many as 7 DGW players for GW 24.No problem with taking hits as I have taken just one hit in the last 6 GWs.And does anyone have any news on Carroll?Or else I can do Barton->N'Zogbia this week, play 3-5-2 and change Carroll next week. How does that sound?

          Hangelaand/N'Zogbia

I think you can get away with doing just Gerrard to Fabregas.

I wouldn't wildcard this week. It's far too valuable and with a bit of care you should be able to set your team up favourably for the future double gw's by using it after this deadline.

On another issue, my team is in need of the WC but was planning on using that 26/27.

I am heavily relying on Kolarov to play this weekend otherwise I could be in trouble with Konch/Dann/Salcido.

Didn’t expect to have to shift Gerrard and Dann so could be a tad shaky this week. Thoughts on the following possible two options if you care to offer an opinion:

1)Gerrard and Carroll out for N’Zog and Tevez (capt)
2)Gerrard and Salcido/Konchesky out for Cesc (capt) and Pantsil/Alcaraz

Hopefully Carroll is declared fit and that will make the decision for me.

Agreed Garg. Can get Zog the week after anyhow.

Just need to Tevez to stay quiet this wkend now - Which of course was no problem when he was my captain at home to Blackpool and could easily have score four and missed a penalty! This time? I’m wincing already.

Yeah I'd like to do something more interesting but it has to be Gerrard out and Fabregas in for me.

                  Gordon
                  Vidic, ACole, Kolarov
                  Etherington, Fabs, Nani, Nasri, Adam
                  Drogba, Rodallega

                  Jaaskelainen, Enrique, Varney, Konchesky

It's really not as bad as I first thought it was, I should be able to manage without a hit. I'm longing for the wildcard though, I have some shitty players in there.

More bonus points for Adam?! Is he now the bonus magnet that Barry Ferguson was last season?

Also, is it still worth making the Tevez to Torres transfer after this gameweek, as is anyone else doing it in light of Liverpool's double despite Gerrard being missing?

          Thanks.

          a) kyrgiakos to hangelaand this week and miss out on the greeks drop and get hangelaands rise

          b) save the transfer this week and play zat knight away at stoke. will have to pay an extra 0.1 for hangelaand but will have 2 freebies next week incase of any injuries and i have to alter my plan

If money is no issue then save the transfer tose, like you said things may change over the weekend with injury or suspensions. Its not as if Hangeland is a must have for this week either.

yeh i think you're right, i can see a 1-2 pointer for both knight and hangelaand

its just when your this close to wildcarding making that extra 0.2m seems more important

                Thats true.

I'm in a similar situation on the money front.

Bought Salcido the game before he was dropped, and now Konchesky is out of favour too. Two players I bought at the time with the weeks ahead in mind (obviously). The same as you did with big Soto before the cards dealt have meant a rethink. Dann is likely to be out for me too, though can afford him to drop .1 yet so he can wait.

But with a wildcard I guess you could try and save money - Then again the game is about points not pounds so I always think about the team first and money second when it is not an essential transfer and you have the cover.

Too much money up front in my opinion, not sold on the value of Torres and Rooney - you have FOUR cheap midfielders and a bargain basement defence which will make it tricky to do transfers in the long run...you need a Man Utd defender too.

Get rid of Stockdale too, you'll have to waste a transfer replacing him when Schwarzer returns. Ideally you don't want to change your Keepers all season (barring injury obviously)...

That is a major consideration but Liverpool are so dodgy I honestly can't see any returns from him. I need the money from him in order to get N'Zog.. plus I'd be replacing him with another DGW player.

Some serious thinking to be done on my part for my transfers this week methinks.

                when are you wildcarding?

id maybe look at either malouda to fabs

                or

malouda to dempsey/young and simpson to rafael

im just stocking up on doublers for gwk24 and will get rid when i wildcard after

I'll probably be wildcarding GW25 or 26. I still have my first wildcard so may stock up on doublers for 27 and use my original wildcard after that if the team is too unbalanced.

Think I'm set on getting Fabs in.. although not a doubler his run is too good to ignore.

Johnson has outstayed his welcome in my team and don't expect Liverpool to keep a clean sheet in the derby this weekend so may do the Rafael transfer. Then maybe get N'Zog with the money I make from doing Tevez to Berbatov next week.
