We’re still waiting for the “Dalglish factor” to kick-in as Kenny fails to inspire a recovery in Liverpool’s fortunes; the Reds the latest to suffer defeat at the hands of Ian Holloway’s Blackpool in last night’s Bloomfield Road encounter. In the Carling Cup meanwhile, Wenger shuffles his pack and watches on while Ipswich expose defensive flaws to take a 1-0 lead into the Emirates second-leg…

Dalglish sprung a few surprises with his lineup. In the absence of suspended skipper Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool boss brought in Christian Poulsen and Milan Jovanovic to the midfield, while Glen Johnson returned after the birth of his baby boy. None of the trio made an impression and their places look far from secure ahead of the Merseyside derby with Everton at the weekend. Maxi Rodriguez and Paul Konchesky were left on the bench along with David Ngog as Dalglish again went with Fernando Torres as the lone striker.

Johnson took up an unfamiliar left—back role with Dalglish opting to keep faith in young Martin Kelly at right-back after his showing in the narrow defeat to United on Sunday. Kelly duly rewarded that decision by providing the assist for Torres’ opener within three minutes. At 4.2 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Kelly has emerged as a very decent short-term consideration. He would seem likely to hold his start for the Everton game and could cement this role for Liverpool’s run of three home matches in the next four (EVE wol FUL STK).

While Kelly has potential, Liverpool’s defensive frailty remains a big problem. Gary Taylor-Fletcher navigated past Dan Agger too easily for Blackpool’s equaliser, while Ian Evatt demonstrated Liverpool’s lack of aerial power by providing the assist for an unmarked DJ Campbell to head the second-half winner.

Torres’ early strike gave him his seventh goal of the season and just his second in nine games. Dalglish went into this game promising to get the best from the Spaniard and, with those three Anfield encounters to come, there’s every chance that we will see the Torres goal ratio improve in the coming Gameweeks. With Gerrard absence through suspension for the next two however, Torres would be a gamble given his price, even with the double fixture in Gameweek 24.

DJ Campbell’s goal was his second of the Gameweek and his seventh of the season. Campbell has now scored 5 in 5 games, providing outstanding value for his 4.6 price tag. With his place seemingly secure in Ian Holloway’s lineup, he remains a good option for Blackpool’s continued run of home matches and the two additional double fixtures to come in Gameweeks 24 and 27. The Seasiders have 5 home matches in the next 7.

Charlie Adam remains the jewel in Holloway’s crown however. Predictably, the Scot came out of this match with another maximum 3 point Bonus haul, giving him a total of 5 over the two Gameweek fixtures. Adam has now amassed a staggering 30 Bonus Points over the season – his nearest rival, Carlos Tevez, is back on 23.

Incredibly Adam has scored Bonus in 6 of his last 8 starts, totaling 17 points in that run. He has not scored a single goal and returned just 1 assist in the 8 game spell, emphasising that Adam’s influence is so strong, he doesn’t need conventional Fantasy returns to catch the eye and earn the supplementary Bonus Points. The only potential caveat to holding Adam over the next month is his future at Bloomfield Road. The Blackpool skipper continues to be linked with other clubs, with Liverpool now amongst those coveting his services.

Arsenal’s Carling Cup defeat came as a surprise, even if the weekend struggle against Championship Leeds hinted that the Gunners would face a task at Portman Road. Arsene Wenger’s side failed to raise their game and dispatch of the Tractor Boys, slipping to a 1-0 defeat that will likely force Wenger to field an even stronger starting XI for the second-leg in a fortnight.

Last night’s lineup saw the likes of Nicklas Bendtner, Andrey Arshavin, Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott earn starts as Wenger chose to rest Samir Nasri, Robin Van Persie, Tomas Rosicky and Gael Clichy. Cesc Fabregas and Jack Wilshere provided stability in central midfield, while Denilson came in for Alex Song in the holding role.

We can expect a full reshuffle for the weekend trip to Upton Park with Nasri, Van Persie, Clichy and Song all looking certain starters. Walcott and Arshavin’s starts look less secure and it seems likely that the two will rotate for the second half of the season, with Nasri swapping flanks accordingly. Up front the competition looks fierce, particularly if Wenger opts for a lone striker as expected. Bendtner failed to take his opportunity last night and remains below Van Persie and Marouane Chamakh in the pecking order.

Johan Djourou and Laurent Koscielny started in tandem at the back once again, with Sebastien Squillaci sidelined with a hamstring injury. That pairing look to be first choice, with Djourou providing potential with his 4.2 price tag. Wenger is in the market for a new centre-back however after Thomas Vermaelen’s recent setback in his recovery from a Achilles injury. Djourou’s potential could well be short-lived then, particularly given last night’s defensive showing.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hmmm.

    My current back line is:

    Foster/Stockdale
    Coleman, Hangeland, Elmo, Bardsley, Evatt.

I have .8m free, and I was gonna drop one of the Sunderland players (probably Elmo) but I'm not sure who for yet. Already have 3 Arsenal players.

I did want Hart in, but I want to keep Foster for his possible triple, as I've had him all season.

If you want City coverage but want to keep your goalkeepers, how about trying to get in Toure or Kolarov for Elmo? I guess there's probably budget implications though...

With Dzecko coming in as a target man, Kolarov could be in line for assists, which will no doubt see him sweeping up bonus too. He's a rotation risk, but worth a punt I reckon

Ah, I see he got a red card.

I've thought the same about Hart. He is very expensive too, and Foster hasn't scored too much worse than him. The key is having faith to play Foster through the hard games i guess!?

Obvious choice, but Elmo > Rafael?

Pretty much got my WC sorted for the next gameweek, but have 1 midfield and 1 stiker position up for grabs. With the money left it's either...

    A. Fabs + DJ Camb
    B. Nasri + Berbatov
    C. Nasri + Bent

I'm leaning towards A, just because Fabs is not a rotation risk, but not sure if DJ's purple patch has come and gone now.

Other forwards are Dzecko and RVP, and in Midfield I have Nani, Adam, VDV, Dempsey.

All opinions much aprreciated as always on this forum

Could pay off but too many unnecessary gambles in my opinion.

It would be easy to switch to the likes of Dzeko from say Tevez if he starts to outscore him.

I think people are too quick to look for differentials, even if they are chasing a lead. If differentials do badly then everyone with the safer players will just pull further ahead of you.

Just my opinion though. Certainly not a bad team in any way.

I like some of your gambles but not all of them.

Ridgewell is too expensive. He's been reliant on goals for those extra points. Johnson is the best Brum defender to have because he gets the most bonus.

Hughes is also the worst choice out of the Fulham defense. He's the second most expensive and doesn't get anything extra. Get Pantsil or Baird instead.

I'm assuming this is a GW 26 WC, so Bentley by then could be a good prospect as could Dzeko.

But if this is a late WC, Stockdale has no place in your team because he won't be the Fulham keeper by then.

Looking way ahead I know - but I'm wary of having too many Birmingham/Spurs/Arsenal in. If both Arsenal and Birmingham overturn their one-goal deficits in the CC semis (which is possible) then these three teams won't play in GW28 - so you may be struggling to put a team out.

Of course, the trade-off is that they will have DGWs the week before - I guess you can't have it both ways.

I think that I have decided to bring in Hangeland and N'Zogbia in over the next 2 GW's for the DGW.

Which transfer should I make this week? (I will do the other next week)

    a) Konchesky -> Hangeland (bench Bale)
    b) Bale -> N'Zogbia (bench Elmander)
    c) Both next week

I realise taking Bale out is a risk but his fixtures aren't great, I have VdV and don't want both any more so would be losing him in my WC anyway.

Are people keeping nani when valencia returns. Nani won't be a consistent starter, and sometimes he will be pushed out to the left, where he's least effective.

With Caroll and Welbeck out my transfer plan may have to be changed (big surprise). If Caroll dosn`t start I am left with either Evatt or Gohouri as sub.

My plan was to bring in Fabs for either Bale or Adam, and Rooney/Berbatov for Welbeck next GW. A United striker this GW seems risky as Rooney og Berbatov may

    A) Bale\Adam -> Fabs
    B) Welbeck -> Rooney\Berba\?

GW 27 is going to be exciting, i take it people are planning already for this blockbuster gameweek. Im itching on my wildcard at the min and if i play it now and providing no injuries, future transfers (not costing any point hits will give me 6 doublers for 1st double gameweek and 9 for gw 27. Im a bit unsure on my brummy players though but i cant see any of them who stands out, my 2 players are R Johnson and Larsson.

Hope he can recapture his form! Great bit of business, sold for £17.5m, bought back for believed around £4m! 😀

For what it's worth I'd be absolutely amazed if Drogba doesn't start against Venky Rovers on Saturday. The last two times Carlo has 'dropped' him we've been absolutely dreadful in the first half and he's had to come on at half time, changing the game in the process.

Scoring goals against a shocking Ipswich side doesn't suddenly make the likes of Sturridge and Kalou good footballers.

But then what does that make Arsenal. You form a logically inconsistent triangle. Something has to give, my guess is that Sturridge will start and score 4 😉

looks like im going to do:

    bale out simon davies in
    berb out rooney in

i dont think berb is going to play or be effect as rooney in both games..

rooney has been playing well just been playing deeper and being the creator in the team, all he needs is to add goals, i think rooney will outscore berb with bonus and assists and at least im not sweating if rooney will play or not, need confirmaion rooney will play first though

    whats peoples thoughts?

I posted this earlier, but I see yet more bonus points for Adam?! Is he now the bonus magnet that Barry Ferguson was last season?

Also, is it still worth making the Tevez to Torres transfer after this gameweek, as is anyone else doing it in light of Liverpool's double despite Gerrard being missing?

    Thanks.

Do people think that going for Rooney in gameweek 24 is a big-money gamble that could pay off? Or is it better to just spend leess money, get Berbatov, and live with having less of a differential for the double?

Nani + Rafael is fine imo.

Bit of a lottery element with their strikers. I'd rather go Tevez/RVP

wildcard is counted as 1 overall transfer ,so if you had 2 this week then you have 2 next week.

My understanding was that transfers are reset with it - i.e you get one freebie the week after

Cocoon is right - I wildcarded earlier in the season with 2 free transfers banked, thinking I'd keep them, but you only get 1 free transfer after WC.
