Scout Picks

With the FA Cup weekend a distant memory, itโ€™s time for Premier League managers to calm the rotation, restore the big guns and get back down to business. The Scout Picks follows suit as another Gameweek rolls into view for the Friday evening treatmentโ€ฆ

The Defence

Joe Hart
The City keeper presents an awfully expensive option but, along with Kolo Toure, the most secure route if youโ€™re looking to hoover up City clean sheets. With Wolves at Eastlands this weekend, Hart looks good for yet another shut-out and with a lack of security elsewhere in Roberto Manciniโ€™s back four, duly gets the nod in the Picks.

Jose Bosingwa
The Chelsea back four is far from a sure bet when it comes to defensive returns these days, but Bosingwa is relatively cheap, looks certain to play and presents a significant threat going forward on the right flank. A Stamford Bridge encounter with Blackburn promises returns at one end, if not two.

Roger Johnson
While Liam Ridgewell has emerged as a more potent goal threat, the stats show that Johnson has had more efforts on goal and is overdue further attacking returns. Heโ€™s also more prominent when it comes to Fantasy Premier League Bonus and against a Villa side lacking both Emile Heskey and Ashley Young, he could well emerge with a shut-out and Bonus this weekend.

Robert Huth
The big Stoke defender has proven his attacking threat at set-pieces with handsome goal returns this season. Huth will get a workout against the muscular Bolton attack, but that could see him stand out and capture some Bonus Points. Plenty of potential for returns at both ends then.

Antolin Alcaraz
A gamble given the likely return of Moussa Dembele to the visiting Fulham attack, Alcaraz is nonetheless the dominant figure in the Wigan defence and has every chance of returning Bonus with or without a home cleanie for Roberto Martinezโ€™ side.

The Midfield

Chris Brunt
While Blackpool will turn up at the Hawthorns with the influential Charlie Adam in midfield, the Baggies have Brunt to orchestrate matters for them and he could well come out on top in a game that promises goals. Bruntโ€™s delivery from open play and set-pieces will be a feature and if the Baggies can pull off a result, he could deny Adam yet more Bonus returns. With Roberto Di Matteo handing him the captaincy today, we must just see the Irishman rise to the occasion.

Samir Nasri
The Nasri vs Cesc Fabregas debate rages on and it could well be time to consider drafting both into our lineups to solve the issue. For now Nasri will suffice for the Picks as Arsenal travel to Upton Park to face a West Ham side which will battle but should concede at least a couple to the fluid Arsenal attack. Both Nasri and Fabregas could well be in the points but, with the Frenchmanโ€™s price considerably kinder, it makes sense to bank on him to inflict the damage and boost his goal tally further.

Nani
The United winger remains the key Fantasy midfielder as he continues to demonstrate a consistent level of scoring that belies his early career at Old Trafford. The clash with Spurs at White Hart Lane could well see goals with the home side possessing plenty to test Alex Fergusonโ€™s rearguard. The visitors may need at least a couple to come away with something and that will surely mean that Nani will again be amongst the points.

Charlie Adam
While itโ€™s a risk throwing in two players from the same match, Adamโ€™s form is so strong, his case for inclusion is overwhelming. The battle with Brunt for superiority in midfield should be a fascinating one and Iโ€™m tipping both to emerge from the weekend clash with returns. Adam has peppered the opponentโ€™s goal over the last two Gameweeks and he is well overdue a return for such attacking intent.

The Forwards

Carlos Tevez
Even with the introduction of Eric Dzeko as a unknown variable, Tevez looks an irresistible option at home to a Wolves defence that will surely grant him ample opportunities to fetch further Fantasy returns.

Fernando Torres
Kennyโ€™s big hope with Steven Gerrard suspended, Torres will go into the Merseyside derby having scored his first goal under Dalglish at Blackpool in midweek. Back at Anfield, Torres promises to be an even bigger threat and with our Membersโ€™ statistics showing an impressive goal threat over his last three matches, Torres looks good for returns against an Everton defence that will be without the influential Phil Jagielka.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

That's why I've done it. Their not very good away and their defence is very shaky, if Dean Whitehead can score against them then surely VdV will cause problems.

I don't like any of the other options this week, always seem to be quite a few goals in the Utd/Spurs games anyway. If they lose 3-2 and VdV scores and sets up the other I'll take that!

      Nasri -> Brunt
      Dzeko/tevz -> RVP

Surely if you're wildcarding you need to stock up on players with a double gw next week...? I'd have N'zog, Torro, DJ C on bench, etc... Personally I'm saving wildcard for the bigger double gw 27.

    Fab/VDV/Brunt/Adam/Gerrard
    Varney/Tevez/K.Davies

Don't lose Kolarov just yet, brum have difficult enough fixtures up until there triple gwk so hold off johnson especially with foster..

Gerrard to Nani is good & Davies to Torres should work out, its the same transfer i made a couple weeks back..

I think the the defenders rotate well enough to cover the risk. And foster is always hoovering up save points. Kolarov isnt a guaranteed starter so im worried about him. Though dzeko might have an impact on that.

Was burned with the gerrard transfer last week. Stupid red card.

Sorry to re-post, but I desparately need some good advice. WC team is . . .

    Foster/Stockdale

    Rafeal/Djourou/Alcaraz/Kolarov/Crainey

    Nani/Fabs/VDV/N’Zog/Adam

    Tevez/Drogba/Campbell

I plan to patch a squad together this week; but, am hopeful for the upcoming DGW (will drop Drogs for a DGW’er and probably Kolarov to Haageland).

My team now is so bad that I felt no choice but to WC and start getting things headed in a better direction.

Even with the speculation about Drogs not playing, Torres doesn’t seem to have any real back-up and Liverpool are so dire . . . .

Thank you very much for any help you can give.

Maybe Johnson out for Huth or Alcaraz (i know he's from Wigan's leaky defence but he has good fixtures!), as you already have Birmingham cover with Foster.

Other than that - leave it, looks good.

How about Pantsil? You could also do Taylor too Gohouri, yep i know its another dodgy Wigan defender but you could transfer him out the next week and its a cheap DGW player. He did well for me when I had him earlier in the season. The rest of your team will be sound so you can afford to chuck a transfer away to tidy up a bit afterwards.

Cheers for the suggestion - i just tried it all and i was a bit short on funds for a keeper. Thanks though. I might just stick with it seems as Stockdale rotates well with Foster. From W26 Stoke rotae well with Foster so i'm going to transfer him in then. I think!! (It'll probably all change.)

I really don't see why people are going with Stockdale & Kingson in their wildcard teams. Both keepers won't be playing soon and the point of the wildcard generally is to pick a team which is good long term and means you won't have to make many transfers after using it.

It's probably because so many people have put him in their teams so people assume he must be sound. It'll wind people up good and proper when they have to waste a transfer getting him out.

I can see why you feel the need for a hit. Just a few players there that im sure your thinking their time is up. I assume youll be going Kolarov, Hangeland and Cole for your defense. You could pop in Konch and hope he plays with a 4-4-2. Mmm actually I think the 4 pointer makes sense. If Kolly doesnt play and kolarov youll be in trouble. Yeah i'd do it.

I'd wait probably, don't see a big Arsenal win if a win at all. I fancy Bale & VdV to cause Man Utd's shaky back four a few problems also.

Tough one, both have as good fixtures as eachother. Probably N'Zog cos he could do nothing and still get bonus plus will come back fresh from a ban, Odemwingie still has a knock. I'm convinced we'll win tomorrow, but not sure if Odemwingie will score..

    MGP>Nasri and Drogba>Dzeko(or any striker 10.6 or less) for a 4pt hit.

good, nought wrong with that. Youll have fun getting rid of the Blackpool players though. Evatt just doesnt do it for me. I'd rather go gohouri for Wigan cover.

    My starting line-up:

    Hart
    Vidic, Bardsley, Baines, Evatt
    Adam, Nasri, Nani, VDV
    Tevez (C), Torres

    Is this okay?

Who are your subs? Think Liverpool may turn over Everton by a goal or two but I can see why you've stuck Baines in. Evatt and Vidic may also get minimum points.

The Drog has been outed from my set-up.
Tevez for the band (predictable but hopefully effective)
