With the free wildcard window well and truly open, there’s a lot more to ponder this week for us fantasy mangers. If you’ve already succumbed and activated yours, then there is just over an hour to make any final tinkering. If, like me, you have resisted, then the normal ritual applies (or do as I, and close your eyes and pray this week).

Whatever you situation, the Saturday Surgery is here to take you through the deadline…

As always, there are some useful places on the site to visit this morning, particularly if you’re yet to finalise your plans. The Team News section houses all the predicted line-ups for this weekend. Check out the Injuries and Bans page to see how long your fantasy stars are absent for. Last night’s Scout Picks are also worth a gander, with prospective players for this upcoming gameweek highlighted.

Lastly, don’t forgot to consider this week’s Captain’s Poll, which you’ll find on the middle column of the site’s home page. The people have spoken, and at the top this week is Carlos Tevez with a comprehensive 37% of the total votes.

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

Where did this come from? Feel sorry for Grant a bit, he's done alright lately but obviously never really had a chance.

I feel sorry for West Ham fans. They're going to be playing some horrible football and spending loads of money on average English midfielders who never get off the bench.

This more O'Neill being overrated rubbish?

Oh wait, you're right, Villa have done awesome since losing him. Whether you like the football he plays or not, he's a quality manager and his record more than backs that up.

His record doesn't back him up really.

O Neil jumped a sinking ship and left them with huge debts and huge wages.

Houllier has been pretty unlucky with injuries too, whereas O'Neill scandalously got away with playing the same team in pretty much every game all season, knackering the players in the process.

He spent a lot of money at Villa, presumably more than every team that finished below them last season, and he bought a lot of dross for big money.

Yep, and now Houllier has to try his best to cut the huge wages the players are on which is the hardest thing in the world to do because no other team will take average players on huge wages.

In short I think O'Neill did for Villa what Rafa did for Liverpool.

Leicester - best manager we've had in my lifetime. Cult hero here.

Celtic - smashed it with him there, gone shit without him.

Villa - smashed it with him there, gone shit without him.

Jumped ship because owners obviously didn't share his ambitions, and fair enough imo.

Just cos he is the best Leicester have had doesnt mean he should be rated as he is.
What he did at leicester has been done at numerous other clubs and even better.

Look at the likes of Ipswich in early 2000's, stoke, reading, Burnley etc etc he did nothing amazing there that hasnt been done b4 or since with normal league managers
And won the Carling cup when only the mid to lower teams took it seriously. Times have changed now.

Celtic is a piss poor team in a piss poor league. They have won leagues and cups before and after him

When he left their european record improved - just go check.

Villa - he ended up spending more money than Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea on wages and fees and then used same 11, broke moral and caused huge rifts in the squads between the 11 who played each week and those who didnt

Then when teams who spent less finished higher than him he had the nerve to ask for even more money after he wasted millions on players such as sidwell, reo coker, heskey, davis, etc etc
Which wouldnt be so bad if he played them but he didnt so if when O Neil wanted more money again even though he already mounted debt onto villa the owner was right to think twice and not pay more for players O neil would never play.

Then theres the fun stats that the likes of L Young, Downing, Harewood, Reo coker, Cahill, Heskey, all have played better when he left or when they left his management.

He is a good league manger for at best a mid table team.

I'm sorry but you can't comapre O'Neill's Leicester to f*cking Burnley.

We came 8th in the league with O'Neill, became a fixture in the prem with him in charge and won two league cups - that's more silverware than a lot current premier league teams have had in the last 15 years.

Burnley got a few plucky results by playing good attacking football at home, but got relegated straight away.

Burnley was used cos of Coyle who has done a similar job. From a neutral point of view he didnt do anything God like at Leicester.

Tony Pulis has done as good if not better a job at Stoke thinking about where they came from under him.

And as i said he won the league cup when it was being competed for by the likes of Wimbledon, Tranmere, Birmingham and poor Spurs teams.

Its nothing like it is today

Who's saying Pulis isn't a good manager? These guys aren't the norm, but O'Neill has gone on to have a good deal of success.

And my pooint was only about the comparison between Burnley and Leicester. As usual you're putting words in people's mouths.

The only part of your response that is relevant to what I posted is:

Burnley was used cos of Coyle who has done a similar job.

                    Which doesn't mean anything.

Well from a poorly results basis O Neil with a much better squad than Strachan never got them out of the groups stages

Remember the likes of Henrik Larrson and other major players had left when Strachan came in so with a worse squad he achieved better results.

So the foundation you say O neil built up had the major parts of it gone and most of players were over the hill compared to their peak under O neil .....so how do you explain Strachan getting better results with lesser players

Then theres O neils terrible away record in Europe with both Villa and Celtic

When he left their european record improved – just go check.

does that line mean that Bill Shankly was a shite Liverpool manager whilst Bob Paisley was brilliant ? Of course it doesn't. O'neill laid the groundwork for a pretty useless Gordon Strachan to come in and take the plaudits the same way as Souness done for Walter Smith at Rangers. If you look for negativity on any manager you'll find it DB. You dont seem to think anyone is worthy of your praise.

Check what i said above about the foundation

Strachan had a worse squad and got better results in CL.

                  Unless Larsson leaving improved Celtic.

There are plenty managers i admire, not overated ones who have won next to no games in europe, play dire football and have left clubs in debt.

It's quite odd how Villa had the smallest squad in the league, badly needed players to increase the squad, O'neill brought in these players, then named an unchanged team every single match.

exactly........... kicked the shit out of a rangers team who had been sweeping up in scotland before his arrival,.. ie 9 in a row. 3 scottish cups , league cup and 3 scottish prems in 5 years as well as what he achieved at Leicester. Who else would have done as well with the shite he had to work with at Villa ? When he was in charge, Celtic were a really good team. Again there, he only had Larsson as his big player, the others like Sutton, Hartson, Thompson were ok but he turned them into a solid team.

            Plus f*cking one!

Oneil used massive resources to create a 1 dimenional team of mediocre players on massive wages, he also let a lot of his 'big' signings rot in the reserves on huge wages then complained about having a thin squad.

He generated a wage bill £14,000,000.00 a year more than Spurs for shite like Sidwell, L.Young, Davies, Heskey, Harewood, Rio Coker.

He also thinks there is no transfer market outside of the U.K.

His don't lose at all costs style of football is also hugely frustrating to watch as a fan.

Give the money he had at Villa to another decent manager and he would have created a much better team and results.

I rate him as a manager - especially for his time at Leicester. Since then he has been good, but he does seem to have a bit of a strange character.

I honestly don't know why he is going to work for the wazzocks that run West Ham and risk the repuatation that he has built up, whether he deserves that reputation or whether he doesn't.

And the 'wazzocks' that own West Ham have managed the whole situation terribly. Like I said below, he should have gone ages ago, but they persisted with him - constantly undermining him in the process - and have now sacked him after probably their best run of results of the season and being on the verge of a cup final.

And that's not even mentioning the farcical situation that will be this evening when he has to manage the team against Arsenal knowing that he's going to be goners.

Read quite an amusing joke on twitter about what Grant should do to get revenge:

"If I'm going to be sacked, I would say 'f*ck it, I'm playing Parker in goal, Rob Green centre back and Carlton Cole, well, I'd play him upfront!"

I agree with Cocoon. I cant understand the abuse being thrown at o neil. Its not as if he took over a team of superstars wen he joined villa...they were a poor team. He made very good signings in the shape of dunne, cuellar and milner. He also nurtured the younger players like agbonlahor and young and got villa into europe and a cup final which they narrowly lost to united. Hes an excellent man-manager and is charismatic unlike houlliher who doesnt look up for the fight

It's actually more entertaining to watch O'neill on the side of the pitch than it is to watch any of his teams.

Recovered from the thrills and spills of that 0-1 loss to Sunderland at home yet? French flair. Let's face it, your players are absoultely shite and were performing way beyond their potential thanks to excellent man-management of O' Neill. Unless you make another 12 signings, exciting football is not coming your way anytime soon.

    Gamblers, I need some advice.

I used a £20 free bet on Paddy Power, put it on Utd to beat Spurs, draw no bet. I'm a bit concerned that if it is a draw, I won't get my stake back because it's a free bet, and if you win you only keep your winnings, not your stake. Pretty sure I won't get the stake back as real money, but will I get my free bet back?

I've searched the PP site for an answer but no joy, and I can't stand those live online help chat things.

    Any ideas?

Wanted something roughly evens to turn the virtual £20 into a real £20.

It's pretty stupid stuff if I don't get my stake back - turned a 6/4 bet into an 8/11 bet 🙁

Hmmm. PP are offering your stake back on 1st/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast bets on Spurs-Utd, and Nani or VDV score the last goal, so I covered 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 Utd and 1-1.

I think you're probably right. I expect Utd to win, anyway. I only did the free bet on Utd to win, draw no bet. The correct score bets are with 'real' money.

    Foster (stockdale)
    Coleman Hangey Djorouououou (Baird Rafael)
    VDV Adam Fabs Nani Nasri
    Torres Tevez (C) (Campbell)

that is a good point, people are saying dann being out makes murphy a bargin, but dann being out could be the downfall of birminghams defence, the reason why theve been so good is because theyve played back to back games the past 2 seasons pretty much could mean a new man in defence could disrupt the understanding they all have

I'm not justifying his one transgression this season. One. After Pedersen tried to act the big man giving him a shoulder barge to wind him up, but lets conveniently forget that.
Lets also forget that he kept his cool despite being kicked up and down the pitch by Henry, or various other opponents who deliberately target him to get him to react. He reacted badly once.

Maybe not cubed 🙂 Barton has been fantastic when I've seen him. Last time was Liverpool at home and he never gave the ball away, he was immense..I just feel that Parker has been carrying West Ham so much that he's the outstanding English midfielder..but Barton's been just as good - maybe it's just that West Ham are so awful that's making Parker look so good!

Paul Scholes (when fit). Wilshere has been good too.

Barton just hoofs the ball at Carroll, which although effective is hardly going to win awards.

Nonsense AP, Scholes was great at the start of the season and yes has been a phenomenal player. But this season overall on form Joey Barton has been the best English midfielder, followed by Scott Parker. A handful of games by Wilshere (tremendous potential) does not get close to challenging the evident truth.

Sorry Attila, Barton is effective this season, that doesn't make him a great player. Take away Carroll and he'll look like the midfield hacker he is 😛

Attila, Barton was being perfectly articulate when talking up his own playing abilities and being diplomatic over transfer rumours, but brushes his half-brothers 'antics' as a 'sort of murder'.
