It is being reported that Sunderland striker Darren Bent is the subject of a bid from Aston Villa, believed to be around £18 million which could later rise to £24 million. It was also reported that the England international has handed in a transfer request and is keen to finalise a move away from the North East club – Sunderland have now confirmed the written request. Bent has been with the Black Cats for 18 months after joining from Tottenham and has scored 36 goals in 62 games.

The proposed move seems a bizarre one at first glance, with Sunderland performing above all expectations and sitting pretty in the Premier League in sixth. This will probably not change too much as far as Bent’s Fantasy potential is concerned; it could be argued that a switch to Villa, who are currently underachieving in 17th, is a move sideways rather than forward. But if the striker’s attitude towards life at the Stadium of Light is in question, perhaps new pastures will see him rediscover the kind of form which saw him fire 24 league goals last term and see him emerge as a major Fantasy consideration.

The move would certainly have an impact on Asamoah Gyan who, until somebody else is brought in, will surely play a more prominent role for Steve Bruce’s side. With guaranteed game time, Gyan, the scorer of Sunderland’s equaliser against Newcastle on Sunday, looks a more attractive option at 6.9m in the FPL and an ownership of 2.8%.

This news of Bent’s possible transfer is just breaking. We can only wait for further developments on what could be the most significant switch between two Premier League clubs in the January window.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

          Okay, here's my response.

Berbatov has been terrible for the last 4 games and hasn't scored or even looked like scoring. Torres has looked better and better in comparison and although didn't score yesterday did hit the post and had multiple chances to pick up goals / assists.

As a Villa fan this is bitter sweet news.

We have finally signed a striker after watching the goon show that is Agbonlahor and Heskey with a lazy Carew performing a cameo.

Bent is a finisher, poacher and proven scorer just what we need to convert some of the many chances we create just to be wasted by Gabby, Emile and JC.

He always seems to give 100% of the pitch.

Now this is where it comes unstuck... £24,000,000.00. Excuse me? Where on earth did we get that kind of money, and why are we spending so much of it on Bent! I can only think we are making a big sale soon.

Given the choice of spending all this money on Bent or not I'm glad we are, we have something to get excited about at Villa Park for the first time in ages, even if the fee seems about £10million too much.

Oh and cash wise Bent being £24m in such a recession seems massively overpriced to me, £16m would have been more on the mark. But then again silly city have distorted the market and you have to pay your £10m English tax.

Annoyed that I picked Foster over Begovic this weekend. Thought Bolton were more likely to sneak a goal than Villa. My all-star midfield of Nani, Nasri and VdV failed to shine too, so it was left to good old Charlie to hoover up bonus points from a losing performance. At least I captained Tevez.

It's more about him being the most successful manager in the club's history, and managing to stay in touch with sides who have vastly more money than us, where others have fallen away.

Comments like that are really boring now, not every Liverpool fan thinks Kenny is goin wave a magic wand and save our club or that he does no wrong, the side he picked against United was probably our best 11 we've had out all season, but the side against Blackpool was probably the worst.

Ah nuts. Woke up this morning and remembered that I wildcarded last night.

Having said that my new team looks awesome. The bad side is the last week I thought that I ended up with a score of 18.

How does this set of beauties grab you?

    Foster/Al Habsi

    Baines - Huth - Hangland - Djourou - Evatt

Fab - VDV - Adam - Nzog - Nani (the textbook FFS midfield)

    RVP - Tevez - Odemwingie

No man utd defence, but can't bring myself to part with Baines...especially with West Ham coming to town.

Of your raggydoll rejectbinners obviously Nasri and Brunt are the ones who could haunt you the most, Adam and Fabregas SHOULD more than make up for their loss. Welbeck could be good too considering the Bent news but again Odemwingie is a good player.
On paper you have made good moves.

Looks good.. I'm wildcarding aswell this week but looking to maximise the potential from GW24 by having 2 DGW strikers.. Torres and another. That means losing Tevez, which I am reluctant to do.. really want RVP aswell but that can wait a week or two

I just can't part with Tevez, I got him back in after his injury and transfer gerfuffle so would lose to much. I just like having him in my side, to know that he's going to go all out every game to get goals and assists. He may get 2, but I won't get that feeling like I did when I had Berbs of utter frustration. Torres would be good...he's looking better with each game.

Fab, Baines, Odemwingie > Nasri, Coleman, Rooney...

A front 3 of Tevez, RVP, Rooney will be interesting over the next few weeks. Rooney is just waiting to score heavily this week

I'm in two minds about whether to get Rooney for Tevez.. just keep remembering that huge haul he got during a DGW last season.. admittedly he was in the form of his life then..

when rooney does anything of note I'll get him in. Its a risk, especially with a double, but its potentially a bigger risk to use all that cash on a player who may get between 2-6 most weeks. There's another double soon for Man Utd...I'll get him in then if he an reproduce last year's form.

Absolutely. A central midfielder shouldn't be anywhere near the top of Liverpool's priority list though. We need at least one (and preferably two) good wingers, and a good striker to partner Torres.

Oh I agree, width is your first priority, though a really cut price proven professional shitkicker like Van Bommel would be no bad thing and it would add some much needed steel into your side. In an ideal world for a koppite signing a pacey and able winger (even a raw one like Blackpool's lad Phillips) to get the crowd screaming again along with a proven striker and the likes of VB snapping at the heels (and snapping the heels as he is a dirty swinehole) could change your whole season.

True. At the right price he'd be a good acquisition for sure.. not sure what his contract situation is but if he's available on the cheap then great.

I'd love to see N'Zogbia at Liverpool. Think he's exactly what we need.

And its not all about if you know a certain player from Uruguay plays in a certain position. I guarantee you wouldn't of known who he was before the World Cup, or before that particular game. I didn't, which I know is bad. But if you ask me anything about prem football I will know it. Foreign football I am clueless.

Poor if I only have 6 DGW players this week despite being on my wildcard? I would have had 7 if Rafael hadn't of been a dickhead and got sent off.

Torres, Rooney, Nani, Adam, N'Zog, Pantsil

That's it, could put in Skrtel for Rafael maybe to make it 7? I actually prefer Liverpool's fixtures after the double to United's to be honest, their just playing shocking at the moment!

Looks like I'll have 7 - same as yours only Skrtel instead of Pantsil, and Stockdale. I think that's enough, don't want to have to perform major surgery.. plan is to use free transfers after this week to get GW27 doublers.. then use my original wildcard after that to tune-up for the final 10 GWs.

Wow your in a great position with the original wildcard to play aswel. Don't see any point in having loads, especially as Fulham/Wigan have awful fixtures after it anyway. Would of liked a Man Utd defender but Rafael f*cked that up for me, only way I could get Evra would be to get Odemwingie for Carroll and upgrade Rafael..

I went for Odemwingie over Carroll for now, he has good fixtures and I will want him for GW27 anyway, so might aswell get him in now.. Will bring Carroll back for GW27, will lose money on that but should have plenty as I'll be cashing in on Torres to make room. Maybe go with Odemwingie for now and look at Ferdinand/Evra? Depends on how you plan on using your free transfers between now and GW27 I suppose.

Yeah, I'd probably prefer Odemwingie to him for GW27 if I'm honest anyway. Thing is, I don't think I'll be able to have both cos I plan to have Rooney, Torres & Odemwingie/Carroll in my wildcard and then transfer RVP & Tevez for Rooney & Torres GW26, Tevez has a nice home fixture and RVP for his double.

So it wouldn't leave any room for Carroll, unless I did Tevez straight out for him afterwards but would seem a waste!

We differ in that I hadn't planned on having Tevez back for GW27, although I may revise that since Carroll's DGW fixtrures aren't all that special IMO. It comes down to whether you'd prefer Carroll or Odem for GW27 then.. my pick will be Odem so if that allowed you to have a Utd defender this week, I'd do that.

Think I'm going to, would give me a 7th doubler in Evra. Prefer Odemwingie's fixtures at the moment anyway..

I'll see when I come to it, but Tevez has a really nice fixture GW26, then Man Utd away GW27 which is very awkward but then against after that he has amazing fixtures again.

Bit annoying really that City don't have any doubles!

    Hi all,

Really don't know whether to take 1 or 2 hits or even WC.
Think it might be better to keep it for GW27 but my defence really looks dodgy...

    Hence, shall I do:
    1. Drogs to Berbs (possibly Rooney if I don't do 3.)
    2. Konch to Hangeland
    3. Rafael to Vidic
    4. WC

All of this would give me:
    Robo (Foster)
    Evatt - Hangeland - Vidic - (Enrique) - (Kolarov)
    Fabs - Nzog - Adam - Nani - (VDV)
    Berbs - Tevez - Campbell

    Thanks for your help!

Do Konch -> Hangeland. Play Rafael Evatt and Hangeland.

      Get Rooney in for Drogba.

      IMO.

I don't like the Rafael to Vidic either but I heard Rafael might miss more than a game (???)... and Vidic looks really strong at the moment

Why would he? Second yellow. Only possibility is that Fergie rests him. Which is possible for most of their team. In fact he might. Because O'Shea/Neville are both more experienced and against a team like Blackpool Rafael may not know what he is up against. But then again that is just speculation. I suspect he'll play. Fergie obviously wants him for the future as a RB. So experience in games like that will do him good.

Could you imagine that Phillips lad up against Gary Neville? F*cking beejeezas that would be an unfair contest. Like Usain Bolt versus Mandy Dingle.

I would play him anywhere Gary Neville was, all he has to do is run quick he'd have half an hour to turn back onto his right to cross.

apparently the fa are looking into his angry reaction to the second yellow,so he could get a further ban, which is insane

I think there were a couple of dubious decisions that were possibly going to change.

      Jara? Not sure.

if they keep a clean sheet for 70 mins, even in the ovelap time between games, they get the cleanie points. This is worth remembering as if they concede at 21 min in the first game, then concede in the 71st of the second they will get 6 pts for minutes 22-160.

"The proposed move seems a bizarre one at first glance". I've had a few glances now, it still seems completely bizrare. I'll presume it's all money related. Wonder is Young off to Arse or L'pool.

Just because he's Young, doesn't therefore mean Wenger's interested!

He's not really the kind of player Arsenal need. Too much of a conventional winger. Liverpool could be a possibility though.

from several tranfer rumours we heard..they approach lot of Attacking players@winger...arda turan..because i can see that..liverpool much needed that kind of players..that can panetrate opponent defend..
