It is being reported that Sunderland striker Darren Bent is the subject of a bid from Aston Villa, believed to be around £18 million which could later rise to £24 million. It was also reported that the England international has handed in a transfer request and is keen to finalise a move away from the North East club – Sunderland have now confirmed the written request. Bent has been with the Black Cats for 18 months after joining from Tottenham and has scored 36 goals in 62 games.

The proposed move seems a bizarre one at first glance, with Sunderland performing above all expectations and sitting pretty in the Premier League in sixth. This will probably not change too much as far as Bent’s Fantasy potential is concerned; it could be argued that a switch to Villa, who are currently underachieving in 17th, is a move sideways rather than forward. But if the striker’s attitude towards life at the Stadium of Light is in question, perhaps new pastures will see him rediscover the kind of form which saw him fire 24 league goals last term and see him emerge as a major Fantasy consideration.

The move would certainly have an impact on Asamoah Gyan who, until somebody else is brought in, will surely play a more prominent role for Steve Bruce’s side. With guaranteed game time, Gyan, the scorer of Sunderland’s equaliser against Newcastle on Sunday, looks a more attractive option at 6.9m in the FPL and an ownership of 2.8%.

This news of Bent’s possible transfer is just breaking. We can only wait for further developments on what could be the most significant switch between two Premier League clubs in the January window.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

After a lousy 38-point haul at the weekend, my only solace is to think of people who've screwed up worse than I have. So it's 3-3 on aggregate in the second leg of the 2008 quarter-finals in the Hungarian cup between Debreceni VSC and FC Fehérvár. We're heading for extra-time until Debrecen are awarded an 86th-minute spot-kick.

There's relief all round as the Fehérvár keeper makes a fine save. But then...

My Wc team for gw 24:
    Begovic Foster
    Bosingwa Coleman Rafael Huth Skrtel
Adam Van der Vaart Fabregas Yaya Toure Nani
    Campbell Rodallega Berbatov

    Money Remaining: 1.6

I think nzog is publicity to people to get in their team
Personally yaya is better than zog inspite of dgw......

Who to cap for gw 24 ?

Judging from the last game he played I would say now is the time to bring him in. He's exactly the same price as Rafael though. And Rafael will play once this gameweek too. If you're looking for differential I'd stick. If not Rafael looks good.

Despite numerous posts on here i've seen absolutely nothing to convince me he isn't a good option for the season.

Annoying that he was subbed on 58 minutes but he was having a pretty poor game - only significant for fantasy managers i think.

Then rested in a game where Tevez was also rested, not picked when he was ill.

It's all reasonable to me, he is obviously first choice left back. Not only that but this new system with Tevez being given pretty much a free role to drift in from the left (look where his goals were from) means that Kolarov is their width. It all fits together and makes him almost essential in my eyes.

For someone with that attacking potential (admittedly yet to materialise) in a team that keeps so many clean sheets i'll happily take him being dropped in the odd tough game, which i do think may happen for someone a bit more defensive - i'll likely not play him in those games anyway so no biggie.

      imo imo

I should add that having a target man in the box should mean more impact for crossing players, and he's a defender on free kicks and corners.

All this talk about him being rotated seems to me to be an idea that has grown and grown on this site with nothing to it.

Rested in one game - in which tevez was also rested - hardly telling, is it?

Like i say, just my opinion though

I agree with all of this. And even if his attacking potential comes to naught, he's first choice left back for one of the best defences in the league.

If you do Konch/Kelly (or Skrtl for a more guaranteed start) and Drog for Torres then the 4 point hit is cancelled out by those 2 playing an extra game each. I've taken a hit for Rooney and Skrtl this week.

Some questions about players who were subbed or not selected in the last GW:
    * Why didn't Foley play for Wolves on Saturday?
    * Why was Kolo Toure was taken off.
    * Nani was also subbed -- Injury or form? I'm not sure he's nailed on to play 2 games in the next GW with Anderson available.

Looks like this is the question for the week - "Who do I bench from this lot - Nani, VDV, Adam, Tevez, Nasri, Fab, Rodellega, Nzog etc. Guessing for most it's VDV they actually don't want to bench as it seems ludicrous, so the real question is "I planned on having this team, so why did I plan on having this team again?" That's how I see it. Play your doubles, that's why you brought them in, right? Very controversial Harry.

Well I'd go with nasri. Looking at Vdv's history and since GW4 the only teams he's started against and failed to get a respectable points return are Man Utd and Newcaste but I don't think that will stop him this time around, it was more of a blip in his regular points scoring form. Nasri because you have Fabs already and Walcott's on form

But with Fabregas in front of him playing keep ball. Fabregas the 'keeper, wont actually be needed on the field of play.

Actually the entire defence could take the day off. Much as the current one are occasionally prone to do.

The old joke. Arsenal are cruising 3-0 against Liverpool, so the rest of the players say to Fabs: "You play the second half by yourself - we're going to the pub."

Coupla hours later, Fabs walks into the pub, looking dejected. "Sorry, guys," he says. "It finished 3-3."

"How the f*ck did that happen?" they cry.

"I got sent off after 50 minutes."

I've just wildcarded. First player in was Fabregas...the rest is mere trimmings. One of the reasons I like having Fab, like Adam, is that at the end of Saturday/Sunday you know bonus pts are coming your way no matter what. He's a lovely bit of security at the end of a hectic day of often disappointing fantasy footballing.

True. Although its one step up from the cold feeling I've had all season of having no good players. At least now I have one and Adam as well. So at least 4-6 bonus pts coming my way this gameweek. I'll cherish them.
