Manchester United have until 6pm today to contest the charge of improper conduct brought against Rafael Da Silva yesterday, with the right-back facing a possible extension of his one-match for his dismissal against Spurs.

Yesterday’s statement by the FA confirmed that Rafael faced a charge relating to “the player’s conduct towards match official Mike Dean following his dismissal in Manchester United’s fixture at Tottenham.”

Dean included details of the player’s reaction to his decision to issue him a red card following a second bookable offence following an innocuous looking challenge on Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Rafael will already miss the first of United’s two fixtures in the Gameweek, the Old Trafford clash with Birmingham. Should he be found guilty of this improper conduct charge he will receive either a warning, a fine or even an additional ban. That would see him sit out the trip to Blackpool and miss the entirety of United’s double Gameweek – at the very least.

While many print and online sources reported the charge yesterday, none committed to a likely punishment. The Telegraph have today stated that Rafael could face an additional one-match ban. Having spoken to the FA this morning, we can confirm that more than one match could be added to his existing suspension. The FA cited a recent example where Norwich defender Liam Barnett received an additional two-matches after he was charged with improper conduct for throwing the ball at the referee when dismissed in the clash with Portsmouth on December 11.

Owners of the full-back can only sit and wait for the verdict – the FA confirmed to us that we are likley to hear a verdict by this evening.

Given the circumstances surrounding the charge one would hope for leniency from the FA. An additional ban would be a major blow in Fantasy terms given the likelihood of returns from Rafael over the Gameweek. United would seem odds on to claim another shutout against Alex McLeish’s side a the weekend, while Rafael’s raiding runs on the right-flank could easily bring attacking rewards at Blackpool, even if Ian Holloway’s side breach the United back four.

John O’Shea would be favourite to step in at right-back in the absence of the Brazilian. He returned to reserve team action last week following a six-week absence with a calf injury. With Wes Brown out of favour and Gary Neville still licking his wounds from a roasting at West Brom, it would seem likely that Alex Ferguson will turn to O’Shea to fill the void.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Villa going wild this transfer window... 6mil on Makoun up to 24 mil on Bent and now apparently they want Samba?! How much you think they'll have to pay to get him in? another 5 mil?

6m for makoun is a waste of a transfer since they already have reo-coker(unless he is going to some other club) who have very similar playing style to makoun...

as for bent it is good deal for villa but 24m is just too much for a striker like bent...but as villa fans say it is better to overpay someone then have noone...

samba will not leave b'burn n villa already have 3-4 decent cb's but if he goes i think they have to pay 4-5m for him as u said.

since all those players will not go to villa they had to overpay bent...n tell me why would bent wants to leave sunderland for villa...simply coz of money...

    KINGSON
    VIDIC SKRTEL HANGELAND
    NANI vdv nasri ADAM DEMPSEY

If Carrolls fit I may play him over someone, not sure who yet.

Looks good for the DGW mate. Even if Carroll is fit I wouldn't throw him back in over any of the players you have. Tottenham isn't gonna be an easy game for him and with the way they have been playing he may not start and just be eased back in rather than risk further injury.

      Just IMO though.

I could be wrong, but there seem to be less penalty kicks being given in the league this year, I have no stats, but having seriously considered Arteta earlier in the season for that very reason, and having seen none being given, it made me re-evaluate to the whole penalty taker thing, I agree that Nani is essential, other than that I think if RVP can stay fit RVP is a good form of Arsenal cover, but that is a big IF

There's fewer pens being scored, at least - I forget the exact stat, but something like 80% of pens given were scored last season, 65 - 70% scored this season.

The Wire is a masterpiece... but it doesn't get any better than The Sopranos.

Best show currently on TV by a long, long way is Breaking Bad. There are moments more thrilling than an entire season of 24 in it's hayday:

Right...there's no chance of you replying to my post at the bottom of the last page, so with apologies....

Pretty sure im going to play my WC this week. I’ve still got my other one spare and so thought i might as well try and take advantage of the (hopefully) upcoming doubles. i could have waited til GW27 but wanted to get in early! Im also trying to catch a rival and hoping the next few weeks will do the trick. WC team currently:
    Foster Kingson
    Coleman Hangeland Djourou Kelly Bardsely(?)
    Fabregas VdV Nani Nzogbia Adam
    RvP Tevez Berbatov

Plan is then to transfer people like Hangland, Nzog, Kelly out over next couple of weeks in preparation for Gw27. I’d want Carroll back for instance. I can then use my other WC for GW28 and set up for rest of season!?

Main worry is that i lose 0.6m on Carroll and 0.2 on YaYa...Anyway does the above look ok? Just looking for some reassurance!
    Cheers

cheers mate...appreciate the advice. Carroll is the main sticking point for me. And agree that benching someone this week could be tricky!

Do you agree in principle in wildcarding this week though? Got to catch someone (who'll prob use his 2nd WC in GW27 - so thought id go early)

Do you not think Berba is a better bet when both him and rooney play together? I cant really see him being rested for either brum or b'pool...they're his kind of games.

i know theyve been shocking up until this point but they will have walker samba dunne warnock with collins and young as backup. last season they were very sound defensively

also they obviously rotate perfectly with birmingham

Could be one to watch but the same players aren't putting in the same performances as last season which is the problem.

I'm probably gonan get Walker though, dirt cheap and quality going forward.

Hmmm, I quite like the idea of having 3 defenders, along the lines of 5.5/5/4.5, then two cheapies as Birmingham and Aston Villa, to rotate when appropriate...

tosey you couldnt be a star and have a quick look at my post above? always appreciate your opinion. Samba at Villa seems a good option. he'll happily head in all of albrighton, downing and young's crosses. Cant see that many cleanies though.

Wise to put Evatt on the bench? The 3 defenders I have on the field all have home games too.

    Djourou, Coleman, Vidic,

ok guys.. need an answer on this one

    A - Fabregas + Rodallega - 0.0 spare

    or

B - Zogs + Rooney - 0.4 spare with money to upgrade to Fabregas in a couple of GW's time.. Obviously Berbs opens up cash though..

You will need another WC in three weeks when Stock, Djou, Kelly will be on the bench and VP/Berb/Nasri will be rotation risk before CL games (not even mentioning Coleman/Kol/Bos who are rotation risk anyway)

I know Djou, Stock and Kelly have DGW (or easy games), but I would never take more than one of those players in a WC. It means you commit to do three changes in a forseeable future, while you also get very injury prone strikers

Anyone reckon it's worth getting in Walcott for Nasri these days?

Not sure what the difference is with RVP and Fabregas in the squad, but it looks good for Walcott from what I see.

And all this "Nasri isn't affected by Fabregas being back" looks like it's adding up to be bullshit too.

For the moment the first choice front three is Nasri RVP Walcott. If Arshavin lights up the Leeds game he might get a look-in a few games down the line... but for the moment it's Theo's place to lose.

Also - you're right about RVP - he's talked before about how much he enjoys playing that pass betweem leftback and centre back for Walcott to run on to... they always seem to link up well (see goal at Blackburn)

All this Tevez to rooney talk is crazy. rooney isn't scoring goals, although the double gw is tempting i would get someone that is showing consistently good form and leave Tevez alone. I reckon all the double gw teams are inconsistent (apart from united/nani and blackpool/Adam) thats why i'm not freaking out and making rash decisions.

The stats all point to Berba over Rooney, but his risk of being dropped is what puts Rooney ahead.

I just think Rooney in a DGW is too tempting, esp when blackpool are involved. Plus Villa home next week. If Rooney manages to get one in the first game, he could well get 3 or 4 more in the next 2 games.

I will do a hit to do tevez -> rooney and then bring tev back in for torres

I'm so conflicted about Rooney vs. Tevez it hurts...

I'm thinking 2 GW gambit... Tevz back in for Torres when he plays che.

    In the red corner:
    BIR, bla, AVL

    Blue corner:
    avl bir

I'll captain Roonster this GW... whereas I don't think I'd captain Tevez either GW...It's the kind of gamble I need to start taking over a hundred points behind my league leader. But United aren't playing well... Rooney isn't playing well.. Tevez is playing really well and I actually like the little sod as opposed to Rooney who I couldn't care less about. ARghh.

I wildcarded last GW and did ok but made one huge error: I got sturridge in. Wondering whether to swap him for Dj campbell but I also want Torres in this week too (hence point hits!)

So what do you think of the follwing:

A)Tevez >> Torres (0 point hit but no blackpool cover)
B)Tevez >> Torres and Brunt to Adam ( 4point hit)
C)Tevez >> Torres and Sturrigde >> DJ Campbell (4 point hit)
D)Tevez >> Torres, Sturridge >> Campbell and Brunt to Adam (8 point hit)
