Tuesday night opens up another chapter in the prolonged story of Gameweek 24 with a pair of Premier League fixtures. United arrive at Bloomfield Road looking to extend their lead at the top of the table, while at the DW Stadium, Gerard Houllier will be looking to build on the 1-0 win over City at the weekend by getting one over on struggling Wigan on their home turf.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open, ready to capture your latest joys and woes as the Gameweek continues to unfold.

After much speculation this evening, the team news is in and both Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney (playing wide left) start at Blackpool. It’s another strong lineup from Alex Ferguson with Rafael returning from his suspension to replace John O’Shea at right-back, while Chris Smalling continues to deputise for groin-injury victim and Tweeter extraordinaire, Rio Ferdinand. Darron Gibson and Paul Scholes are drafted into midfield for Ryan Giggs and the stricken Michael Carrick. As for Ian Holloway’s side, the headline news is that wantaway skipper Charlie Adam starts, whilst DJ Campbell returns up front and Richard Kingson recovers from a head injury to take his place in goal.

Roberto Martinez makes changes after the polite showing at the Emirates at the weekend. It’s drastic measures, as James McCarthy returns after a three-month absence to take his place in midfield. Franco Di Santo lends his weight to the attack, whilst James McAurther comes into the middle, with Ronnie Stam, Ben Watson and Mohamed Diame making way. Reports of the latter being subject of transfer enquiry from Wigan’s tourist information board have so far been denied by the Latics boss.

As for Villa, they surprisingly change a winning side, handing a debut to new signing Jean Makoun in midfield, with Nigel Reo Coker returning alongside him. The unfortunate Marc Albrighton and club skipper Stiliyan Petrov, drop to the bench. Nathan Baker gets a start at left-back – presumably because Ciaran Clark has suffered an injury or illness. More on that, hopefully, in the Scout Notes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Loving the fact that my main rivals went with Rooney instead of Berbs. I still feel gutted I didn't dish a bigger blow to them by captaining him. Stupid Nani!

Also, what does it take for United to concede a penalty? That one at 2-0 would have killed the game for Blackpool...but not given! Grrr

      Is she the patronising one?

      - or is that the one other one?

(ironically, that statement was, in itself, also patronising 🙂 )

Safe to say Berbatov raped me in the jacksey this week, main rival captained him, 50 point gap, gonzo.

    Argh.

Great win for United though, Giggs pulled it right out of the bag! Rooney to be rested at the weekend or next Tuesday night? Hernandez looked very sharp.

Valencia, providing he is fit enough, will definitely reduce Nani's playing time and/or effectiveness. I like Valencia, but he's very one dimensional. If he plays, Nani drops do the left and so does his impact. I might get rid in a month.

Much discussion about this Valencia v Nani debate at the start of the season, Valencia did bog all for me while Nani raked in the points. Two bad games does not necessarily equate to jumping ship for me.

Rooney stands out like a sore thumb as a poor value-for-money shout in that team....now. What a turnaround this season. Rooney's playing left-wing, left-back and nowhere near the leading-the-line forward he was last season. Berbs - everything he touches turns into gold.

No evidence to back me up but predicted the 2-3 scoreline - would have liked to have known the odds on that.

About the United hating stuff - I'm not a United fan, and I don't hate them at all, a good number of friends of mine are United fans, and some of their players are some of my favourites in the Premier League (not Berbatov though).
However there are just enough knobheads who support United that ruin it for their normal fans, and create such glee when they lose. Saying that though, of the teams that can realistically win the title United would be my second choice behind Spurs.

I understand rivals wanting United to lose, of course I do, I want Liverpool and Citeh to lose, but my eyes have been opened further over the last year or so by some of the irrational hate I'm reading on here on an almost daily basis. Most of it from just a handful of people. It sunk to a new low today and it's really putting people off. Why do you think Andy doesn't post anymore.
