Tuesday night opens up another chapter in the prolonged story of Gameweek 24 with a pair of Premier League fixtures. United arrive at Bloomfield Road looking to extend their lead at the top of the table, while at the DW Stadium, Gerard Houllier will be looking to build on the 1-0 win over City at the weekend by getting one over on struggling Wigan on their home turf.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open, ready to capture your latest joys and woes as the Gameweek continues to unfold.

After much speculation this evening, the team news is in and both Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney (playing wide left) start at Blackpool. It’s another strong lineup from Alex Ferguson with Rafael returning from his suspension to replace John O’Shea at right-back, while Chris Smalling continues to deputise for groin-injury victim and Tweeter extraordinaire, Rio Ferdinand. Darron Gibson and Paul Scholes are drafted into midfield for Ryan Giggs and the stricken Michael Carrick. As for Ian Holloway’s side, the headline news is that wantaway skipper Charlie Adam starts, whilst DJ Campbell returns up front and Richard Kingson recovers from a head injury to take his place in goal.

Roberto Martinez makes changes after the polite showing at the Emirates at the weekend. It’s drastic measures, as James McCarthy returns after a three-month absence to take his place in midfield. Franco Di Santo lends his weight to the attack, whilst James McAurther comes into the middle, with Ronnie Stam, Ben Watson and Mohamed Diame making way. Reports of the latter being subject of transfer enquiry from Wigan’s tourist information board have so far been denied by the Latics boss.

As for Villa, they surprisingly change a winning side, handing a debut to new signing Jean Makoun in midfield, with Nigel Reo Coker returning alongside him. The unfortunate Marc Albrighton and club skipper Stiliyan Petrov, drop to the bench. Nathan Baker gets a start at left-back – presumably because Ciaran Clark has suffered an injury or illness. More on that, hopefully, in the Scout Notes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Almost certainly if you take into account the length of time he's been playing. There have been players who have had spells where they have been better than Giggs but as a total body of work Giggs must win it.

Good old SAF trying to increase Adam's price to ensure Liverpool have to hand over as much as possible:

"The first half we were battered and we couldn't handle Charlie Adam, his corner kicks are worth £10m."

Personally think £8-10m is about right.

I've said it before, X2 captaincy too much. I'm honestly not bitter about Berb. I have him this week, but not as captain but I've made this point before.

X2 points for captain can make or break your gameweek and can completely superceed having a decent all round team. A complete nugget with a rubbish team can outscore good all-rounders simply because he guesses the captain correctly.

I thing there should be an element or reward for captaincy but this should be X1.5 and we accept (and welcome) the 'half point' into the points system.

pretty dull game if "a complete nugget" doesn't have the chance to have the odd week of glory.

"simply because he guesses the captain correctly" - over the course of a season the decent team will 'guess' correctly more often than the novice.

can I just add I'm not referring to anyone who captained Berb this week as a nugget. That was a well-judged move.

I'm more having a go at the fact that captaincy is a bit of a lottery, yet so heavily rewarded. I think the game would reflect skill more of the onus on captaincy was reduced, that's all.

To be honest, I'd be happy to see it go completely and you have to rely on your whole team.

but this is my point. In that post you've called it both a well judged move and a bit of a lottery.

It isn't pure guess work, it is thought out just like deciding on transfers. Of course some weeks some idiot will captain leon best but in the grand scheme it makes little difference.

Choose a sensible captain 38 times in a row and you will* score more than the nugget.

          * terms and conditions apply

I see the contradiction you pick up on.

However, many weeks, you have Nasri, Nani, Drogba, etc all playing similarly difficult games and then it becomes more of a lottery.

Berb this week had a double behind him, the fact Rooney back and he always plays better alongside Rooney etc.

There are many weeks when even the best players I think would admit it boils down to a coin toss between a couple of candidates.

I agree with that, but on a one week by week basis. Should still win out over a season.

fair play. i'm still not a fan of the captaincy rule and doubt my view on that will change easily, but it's all about opinions and i see where you're coming from.

                all the best

Double points is the best way. You deserve to be rewarded for picking a good captain.

you wouldn't say that if your wife ( a nugget) had TWICE captained Berbs when he got 5 goals

double gameweeks are one offs. i'm happy with it (no i didn't captain berbatov) in single gameweeks it will hardly ever be a massive impact like this week

I love Ian Holloway even more- probably the only manager in the league who would have not layed all the blame for his side's defeat on the referee.

    Class act.

4 years in this game I thought the key was picking consistent players when in doubt. I'd never pick Berba over Rooney if funds were not the issue.

This year everything has been working the other way around.
