United show their resilience to fight back and down a valiant Blackpool. Villa grab their second win on the spin and start to climb the table, while Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers will forever recall the Gameweek as “Berbatov weekâ€, with the Bulgarian’s five goal, 29 point haul haunting those who opted for Wayne Rooney instead. Elsewhere, Arsenal overcome Ipswich to reach the Carling Cup Final and possibly create some Gameweek 28 fixture congestion, although that’s all dependant on rescheduling…

United once again showed a never-say-die attitude, going 2-0 down to Blackpool before a resurgent performance in the latter stages of the second half maintained their unbeaten league record. Sir Alex Ferguson started with a 4-3-3 formation, with Chris Smalling continuing in the centre of defence at the expense of the injured Rio Ferdinand, before changing to 4-4-2 on the half-hour mark.

The introduction of Ryan Giggs on the United left made the difference, and, after Dimitar Berbatov pulled one back, it was Giggs who supplied the killer pass for Javier Hernandez’s equaliser before Berbatov scored the winner, his fifth of this double Gameweek. Wayne Rooney started on the left-flank and was a peripheral figure throughout; he was subbed midway through the second half. A head injury to right-back Rafael will need to be monitored by his Fantasy Owners, with the youngster stretchered off and taken to hospital late on following a nasty clash of heads. Concussion will likely see him miss the weekend FA Cup tie with Southampton but he could well be fine for a return against Villa in Gameweek 25. Ferguson had this to say on that situation in his post-match comments…

“He’s gone to hospital…We just hope he’s okay. He’s got concussion, we know that, we just hope everything else is okay.”

Blackpool ran out of steam in their bid to end the league leaders’ unbeaten run, and have now lost three games on the trot. Goals from Craig Cathcart and DJ Campbell topped an outstanding first half performance but, in the end, it seemed Ian Holloway’s side had nothing left in the tank as United hit back, with the pace of Hernandez coming off the bench proving a decisive switch by Ferguson.

Two Charlie Adam assists and three Bonus Points will no doubt please his Fantasy Owners, but it could have been more; Blackpool were denied what seemed a certain penalty with the score at 2-0, and the decision left Holloway livid on the sidelines. They’ll need to pick themselves up quick for the next league game, at home to West Ham.

Gerard Houllier surprised many by dropping Marc Albrighton to the bench for the visit to Wigan. The Villa boss also changed his central midfield pairing from the weekend win against Man City, giving Jean Makoun his debut and bringing Nigel Reo Coker back into the fray. Young Nathan Baker made his debut at left-back in the vital 2-1 win which saw Villa edge away from the drop zone. Baker came in for Ciaran Clark who is nursing a hamstring problem – Houllier is hopeful that he’ll be back in contention for the weekend Cup tie.

Interestingly, Ashley Young took the penalty to put Villa 2-0 up, despite new boy Darren Bent being on the pitch, an indication of Young, perhaps, being the number one for spot-kicks. Young, subject of this week’s Technical Area, also grabbed the three Bonus Points for his performance.

James McCarthy was welcomed back by Wigan following a three month absence and, despite the young midfielder finding the net from 25 yards out, it wasn’t enough to prevent Roberto Martinez’s side from slipping to defeat in this vital match. Martinez made a number of changes from the weekend defeat at the Emirates, ultimately with little effect. Wigan have now won just one of their last nine league games, a worrying sign for fans of the Latics. Double Gameweek returns from Wigan were predictably scarce.

Arsene Wenger ensured there were no slip-ups in the second leg of the Carling Cup semi with Ipswich as he fielded a strong side, including Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie, for the 3-0 Emirates win to clinch a spot in the final. Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott took their place on the Arsenal bench and, with an FA Cup game with Huddersfield this upcoming weekend, Wenger will surely rest more of his major players ahead of next week’s home league match with Everton. Bacary Sagna is a doubt for the weekend Cup tie – he suffered concussion in a collision with keeper Wojciech Szczesny and was taken to hospital.

With the Carling Cup Final taking place in the weekend of Gameweek 28, this could possibly put the Gunners match with Spurs at risk, though there’s every possibility the match could be rescheduled for midweek of the same game week, as Mark‘s article last night pointed out.

I took Carroll out a fair bit back as soon as he was injured. Even if he comes back vs Fulham it'll take him 2-3 games to get his match fitness back up - or, he simply won't play near 90 mins.

WC is when Carroll will come back.

I'm no fan of Loose Women, think it's tripe and can be demeaning in its own way towards males, but comparing it to Gray and Keys' comments and prejudices isn't right.

djourou made his comeback on oct 16th so we’ll say it took him 4weeks to get fit

against everton on 14 nov they both started, since then in 8 prem games when both fit squillaci has started 5 with djourou on the bench, djourou has started 3 with squillaci on the bench

Hmmm, well i guess we'll see. Arsenal's defence has improved significantly recently and Wenger himself has come out and attributed alot of this to Djourou. Squillacci (from what i've seen of him) is pretty dire, hasn't looked with it at all so far.

I'd be very surprised to see Djourou dropped to the bench (apart from the odd rest).

I don't have him or plan to get him by the way so no agenda trying to justify anything. I just can't see it myself.

          Rotation is one thing.

To say that he is behind Konscielny and Squillacci in the pecking order is another - and i don't agree with that.

Ultimately it's only Wenger who really knows though i guess.

The thing that's annoying me is that I'd put a wager on Berba being 'rested' any Prem League game soon.

Also, with Arsenal playing in the CC Final, Fabs/RVP is certain to miss a game soon.

If only managers couldn't just realise that if a pro footballer can't hack playing 2 games of a football a week they shouldn't be at the club - that and it's very frustrating, unless you happen to have inside knowledge, which I'm sure some do.

I'm sure Wenger does his best to keep the fantasy football massive happy when weighing up potential transfers - you just can't please everyone all of the time, eh?

Shouldn't be at the club is absolute nonsense - it's a squad game played over many months. Players get rested, part of the game.

Basically it depends on the rest of your team, who you have etc.

Tevez definitely, Berbs maybe, Odim maybe, DJ maybe.

No, it doesn't depend on that at all. I simply want to know which three strikers people think will score the most points in the next two weeks. Perfectly legitimate question. You think Tevez will do well at Bimingham then?

Well it's not that simple is it?

Nobody knows who will score the best so it's about weighing up possible outcomes. So if you already have two Arsenal midfielders, you are covered agaisnt big Arsenal returns, so people might suggest a Liverpool/United/Chelsea striker, whereas if you didn't then RVP would be the best pick. Or if you already had DJ and were not sure about DJ or Odim, then people would suggest to stick with the one you have.

It's not as simple as picking the best three prospects because people don't KNOW who will score best.

The point anyway is that you could have posted some of your own thoughts and then asked people for opinions on them so you're at least giving a little back and looking better than just saying 'pick my players for me'.

I'm thinking Odem, but the way RVP, Berba and Tevez are playing, I feel it's the defence to get the cheaper players.

Odem certainly looks good for the next 4 games though:

It was a head shaker when Sir Alex put Rooney on the left wing last night it really was. Berbatov is gaining a lot from Rooney's play though.

If Rooney doesn't play, I think Berbatov's chances will be far fewer.

Bit of a captin dilemma for the coming GW.. RVP, Fabs, Torres, Berbatov and Nani all good options. With so much riding on captaincy choices it's doing my head in!

I'm on Fabregas at the moment, but nobody in my £ league has him. Fairly sure most will bring in and captain RVP after this week.. might just do the boring thing and cover that.

I'm hoping Fabs is gonna get a massive score soon. I don't think RVP will outscore him by such big margins every week anyway.

Also, after that penalty do we think there is a decent chance Fabs might take the next one?

I suppose an Arsenal fan will be the one to ask on that score, but I did see RVP's official twitter page after the match, thanking people for messages etc, pleased with his hat-trick, said he was sorry for missing the penalty but "I promise I'll score the next one!"

Reckon he's keen to carry on taking them!

I'm fairly sure Fabs is in for a big one soon, he could have had a huge score against Wigan were it not for Al-Habsi's heroics.

          Utter rubbish.

They both started last night and who would have scored more FPL points?

Why make such meaningless blanket statements like that?

Since 27th dec they've both started 5 games, rested once.

Fabs has scored 38 points, RVP scored 41 points.

Fabs scored more than RVP 3 times, RVP scored more than Fabs 2 times.

What that says is that their points have been roughly level, who scores more on a given gameweek can go either way.

Obviously there will be weeks where he doesn't outscore Fabs, but agree on current showings he's the safer captain pick.

Can't get Fabs' huge haul against Everton on the opening day of last season out of my head though.

the basic thing im thinking is arsenal 2 and tottenham 2 because then if there game against each other is off i wont have less than 11 the next game week.

gues its a choice of huge score that week or good score and hopefully more points the weeks after as well.

obviously if you have a wildcard it doesnt matter about overkill

Think it's more to do with the striker choices as opposed to the number of DGW players you had. Varney and Rodellega just not going to cut the mustard. (I bought in Varney for the last DGW based on his home points scored stats so know all about that error).

I'm going to max it out as I still have an original wildcard left, which I'll use to balance my squad if certain teams are missing games in GW28 etc.

I have 7 DGW players for GW27 already, just using free transfers from here to bring it up to 10.

Last week, pre game week. I brought in Dempsey and was mocked. Upon retaliation on my behalf you said and I quote "atleast you have Dempsey". I then expressed how if Dempsey did well I would set that quote as my name.

"I do not agree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it".

That is the principle missing behind this "sexism in football" thing.

It does make a difference whether it was said on air or off air. If it happens on-air, it looks as if Sky condones the behaviour and backs it. If it happens off-air, the guy just looks a bit stupid.

If you sanitise everything to be as bland and unoffensive as possible all the time, you get some kind of orwellian nightmare.

Voltaire will turn around in his grave when he hears you using that quote about this.

Sexism is not tolerated at any (well, almost) job and that our modern society tries to clamp down on it is a good thing.

+1- imagine if he'd said, "wow is that another black linesman?" or words to that effect. It's all discrimination and all unacceptable. Plus it was said IN THE WORKPLACE......

Having said that, I don't like the way this was clearly all leaked because Gray was suing NOTW.....

I think the initial charge against Gray and Keys was fair enough - the linesperson was eminently capable to do the job and their views about her gender were ignorant. One match ban was fully justified.

The subsequent stuff has been a different kettle of fish. Some of it might or might not be inappropriate behaviour or simple 'workplace banter', and it begs the question 'why weren't these things dealt with at the time?'.

      I dunno mate.

If it was Racism instead of Sexism people would rightly be up in arms. I think the sacking is perfectly justified, Sky are a big company and have to save face here. Andy Gray of course has the right to say what he wants but in a society like ours when he says that while representing a big company then he has to face up to the consequences of that - that same responsibility comes with practically any job.

Exactly, he's still at work. I don't behave the same in work as outside because I know that people might find some things I say or do inappropriate. Whether he's broadcasting or not, people he works with (males or females) can still find saying things like that inappropriate and they shouldn't have to deal with someone like that at work. He's no more special than anyone else.

rooney ; carroll ; van persie

Katie, so your punt on Elmander is nothing more then, because Berba, Tevez etc have has 1s and 2s, he will as well?

There must be more thought to it. I mean, is it because he's done decent at home to mid teams, such as Newcastle and WBA, so home to Wolves could also bring in a similar sort of score? Now that would seem a better way of looking at it.

Basically, I like to see the reason why someone selects a player, not just taking their word for it.

an fpl season is usually on your side, or against you. and its obviously on katies side, so even if she picks richard dunne, he will score that week. if i pick torres home to stoke, he will get a yellow and nothing else.
im not saying its all about luck, but when a season is on your side, your decisions are usually the best decisions.

I would take a guess that Elmander will get 2 of them.
