Following on from last night’s article in the wake of Arsenal’s passage to the Carling Cup final, we’ve now had the second piece of the puzzle completed with Birmingham confirmed as the Gunners’ opponents after their 4-3 aggregate win over West Ham. This has resulted in further disruption to the Premier League fixture list which has pretty significant repercussions for us Fantasy Managers. Have a pen and paper handy…

In the wake of making the trip to Wembley, Birmingham will be forced to postpone two of their forthcoming fixtures (one indefinitely, one rescheduled). The hotly anticipated proposition of a triple fixture in Gameweek 27 has fallen by the wayside as Birmingham are now forced to move their visit to Everton back a fortnight to March 9 to allow a full week of preparation for the final on Sunday February 27. That still leaves them with a double Gameweek here, with games against Stoke and Newcastle at home to come.

However, Birmingham will also see their trip to Stamford Bridge, currently scheduled for February 26 (Gameweek 28), postponed. Unlike the Spurs vs Arsenal clash postponed from the weekend of the same Gameweek, a move to a midweek slot for this fixture is not possible as Chelsea already face Man United on the Tuesday. Birmingham will now have a blank in Gameweek 28 then – casting real doubt over the wisdom of heavy investment in their players for their Gameweek 27 double.

There is a further consideration however. Birmingham’s trip to Everton, postponed from Gameweek 27, will now move to Gameweek 29. That will slot alongside a home clash against Roberto Di Matteo’s West Brom, giving Birmingham a rather odd schedule of two double Gameweeks sandwiching their Gameweek 28 blank. Got that? Good.

This obviously has repercussions elsewhere, as the double fixture that Chelsea previously had penciled in for Gameweek 28 has been demoted to a single fixture against United. Were United or Chelsea to progress in the FA Cup this weekend and pick up draws in the fifth round (on February 19), that fixture will also be shunted to allow for replays. Everton meanwhile, have their double of (bol/BIR) in Gameweek 27 removed and turn into (new/BIR) a couple of weeks later in Gameweek 29.

Plenty to take in when considering transfers, wildcards and strategies then. Season Tickers will be updated with all the relevant details later today.

Bit rissky considering those 3 Brum players will compromise 3/4 of your bench. Any injuries, bans or such like and you'll be struggling to field 11.

    advice please

i was planning on saving my transfer for next week until the last minute when we get the teamsheets and have a 1 week punt before i wildcard on someone like park if he plays or do adam to brunt if he leaves etc

i want darren bent longterm and would lose 0.1 on him if i get rid and get back when i wildcard, i can afford to do bent to berbatov and would easily make the 0.1 back and probably more but id have to do it today before berb rises

    thoughts?

still seems wise to invest in foster and a defender from the hammers. No triple, but still a nice run of doubles. Not sure you want to play any against chelsea in GW 28 anyway. Decent 2nd keeper and still 4 defenders to choose 3 from.

i really dont see how brums changes make a difference

they wouldve had chelsea away gwk28 so id have benched my 3 anyway and even the trebleweek theyve only lost the tough game away at everton

as i wanted 3 brum defenders for the run in anyway the fact they have 2 doubles rather than a treble actually benefits me

The problem is if ars v tot is also not on gw28 then you can only bench if 3 brum players if you have no arsenal or tottenham players which seems unlikely on the back of their dgw.

Fair point but the doubt concerns "heavy" investment eg: 2 or 3 players. It would obvioulsy leave squads with 11 or 12 player carry over to Gameweek 28. When Birmingham had 3 fixtures in GW27, the payoff seemed to outweigh the fact that Chelsea followed in GW28. It's all change now of course.

Injuries have forced his hand but I'm sure when he has 3 fit cb's resting djourou will be a high priority for him.

normally i'd be well pleased with 74 points but compared to some of the scores in my league it's appalling.

Not sure what transfers to make this week? thinking possibly:

    Bale or MGP>>Meireles
    Alcaraz >> Kelly
    foley >>djourou

Do I need to do one or 2 of these this week?

All the talk on here of saving your wildcar for GW27 put loads of people off doing the obvious thing, which was to wildcard for this past gameweek. I know it's easy to say in hindsight, but I really couldn't understand peoples thinking.... wildcard for GW24, leave 3 players on your bench who have GW27 doubles, put a couple of Aresnal players in as well with their easy game, and then bring another 3 DGWers in the weeks running up to GW27. You have at least 8 DGWers in GW27.

I can't see how many people are going to benefit from wildcarding in GW27, as most GW24 wildcarders will have plenty of GW27 DGW players anyway. I took a 50pt jump on lots of people in my minileague, and doubt very much they'll claw much of that back in GW27.

I was telling myself that, I still have my wildcard, but in reality I'm still not sure I'd have put berbatov in or captained him and I still ended the week with 85 points so while by no means the best, it's certainly not the worst.

I have a plan for the upcoming double to do what others have done this gameweek...albeit the cancellations in gw28 do make me have to tactically think harder.

There was alot of talk pre games this week about the advantages of captaining single week players over double gameweek players, in that Tevez can still get a hatrick in a single game week where Berbs gets nothing in a double game week. Ofcourse, in hindsight, if you didn't captain Berbs on this double it turned out you were a moron. However, looking at this weeks 'dream team', 3 of the 11 players played just a single game. There's a small stat for your next double gameweek weigh up.

After the last juggernaut of a double gw I was determined to not miss out on the next one, esp Brum's triple, spent the whole day at work carefully planning transfers for the next 4 weeks and finally came up with a perfect transfer policy that fit budget and fixtures perfectly.
I've got into work read this article and just pressed the panic WC button, now I feel so much better, welcome to my team RVP, Berbs, Kelly, Murphy, Brunt.
So when will we know about any further disruptions? hopefully soonish while I can still swap players around...
And that WAS a Torres assist, and a goal, had a tenner riding on Torres anytime scorer fml.

konchesky defo has to go. King Kenny seems to like Kelly and with johnson moved to left back he will probably get a good run in the team. There are worse transfers you could make! (like bringing in foley with your last w/c perhaps ... *ahem*)

quick scoring question before I feign actual work for a few minutes--in a DGW situation for a keeper, 3 saves is a point obviously, but do saves "roll over" from the first game?

Say Reina gets 2 in one, and 4 in the other game, is that 2 points for 6 total saves or 1 point because he only got 3 saves in one of the games. I hope this is as nerdy as I can possibly be.

I see Barcelona popped off another 5-0 last night, this time in the semi-final 1st leg.

This Champion's League tie with Arsenal should be very juicy. Who remember's the 3-3s with Man United in 98/99?

Depends on your view of him compared to Nasri.
Do you think hes worth the extra cash?

I currently have Nasri and if i had the spare cash would definately bring in Fab - maybe thats just me though.

This is why I held on to it, to see how many players and which teams would be out of GW 28. Still need to see if Arsenal v Spurs stays in GW28, or I know I will need 2 free transfers. So GW 26 even though it's only 3 days long or something.

        shaky times? rubbish.

ppl who have used there wildcard are happy cos they scored high but gw 27 could easily be a high scorer with more teams playing more games.

i havent played wildcard and still managed just short of 100. pretty pleased with that. my wildcard will bring in the likes of RVP and Fabs who are season keepers IMO. Plus a chance to get rid of the dead wood.

my plan has worked out just perfect so far with a well prepared team for gw24 and very nice score and wildcard still in hand, just want to carry on and build on that. My team is fine for gw25 and i could have two freebees for gw26 and use wildcard for gw27, also need to get in fabs and rvp, just worried about not having them for another two gameweeks...
