Following on from last night’s article in the wake of Arsenal’s passage to the Carling Cup final, we’ve now had the second piece of the puzzle completed with Birmingham confirmed as the Gunners’ opponents after their 4-3 aggregate win over West Ham. This has resulted in further disruption to the Premier League fixture list which has pretty significant repercussions for us Fantasy Managers. Have a pen and paper handy…

In the wake of making the trip to Wembley, Birmingham will be forced to postpone two of their forthcoming fixtures (one indefinitely, one rescheduled). The hotly anticipated proposition of a triple fixture in Gameweek 27 has fallen by the wayside as Birmingham are now forced to move their visit to Everton back a fortnight to March 9 to allow a full week of preparation for the final on Sunday February 27. That still leaves them with a double Gameweek here, with games against Stoke and Newcastle at home to come.

However, Birmingham will also see their trip to Stamford Bridge, currently scheduled for February 26 (Gameweek 28), postponed. Unlike the Spurs vs Arsenal clash postponed from the weekend of the same Gameweek, a move to a midweek slot for this fixture is not possible as Chelsea already face Man United on the Tuesday. Birmingham will now have a blank in Gameweek 28 then – casting real doubt over the wisdom of heavy investment in their players for their Gameweek 27 double.

There is a further consideration however. Birmingham’s trip to Everton, postponed from Gameweek 27, will now move to Gameweek 29. That will slot alongside a home clash against Roberto Di Matteo’s West Brom, giving Birmingham a rather odd schedule of two double Gameweeks sandwiching their Gameweek 28 blank. Got that? Good.

This obviously has repercussions elsewhere, as the double fixture that Chelsea previously had penciled in for Gameweek 28 has been demoted to a single fixture against United. Were United or Chelsea to progress in the FA Cup this weekend and pick up draws in the fifth round (on February 19), that fixture will also be shunted to allow for replays. Everton meanwhile, have their double of (bol/BIR) in Gameweek 27 removed and turn into (new/BIR) a couple of weeks later in Gameweek 29.

Plenty to take in when considering transfers, wildcards and strategies then. Season Tickers will be updated with all the relevant details later today.

You know those trees you get for the world cup that show who plays who - does anyone have those for the other games like the FA cup and the Champions league?

Doesn't really work for those competitions, they don't separate the draw like they do in the WC.

The world cup games are all predetermined routes to the final whereas the Fa cup is drawn at random and the champions league is largely random draws so it's not possible to create such a tree in advance. A retrospective one could be compiled after the competition is finished but that wouldnt be fun. Also the number of teams in the Fa cup is massive and teams enter at different stages. It would be a massive mental tree.

      I could've just said no couldn't I?

Ok that's over, so on to next week's decisions.

Which three defenders to play out of
    Coleman - Vidic - Djourou - Huth - Evatt ?

I was thinking Coleman - Vidic and Djourou.

Vidic and Djourou easy choices, the other 3 are very likely to concede goals, so yes, oop coleman seems logic as the last one..

I think 26 probably makes sense, theirs a shift in a few fixtures. Like a lot of teams from last week have good fixtures this week ie Fulhan Liverpool United etc then tougher ones the week after when teams like Villa Everton etc have the opposite.

had my mind on gw26 for a long time, but i am now likely to use two freebees for gw26 and wilcard for gw27, banking on a big score and maybe use a hit to adjust for gw28

Well, this certainly throws a spanner in the works but I still think the majority of my wildcard team will "pick itself" based on the fixtures. However, the downside to this is that what was once a situation where fielding 11 double-gamweekers seemed feasable, having a squad ready for the United double in GW28 and have some Everton investment ahead of their double in 29 now no longer allows this.

This is V0.1 of what I THINK will be my wildcard team.
Note: If Carroll is injured (looking likely)I'll play Odemwingie.

    Foster (Gordon)
Djourou, R Johnson, Simpson (Rafael, Coleman)
    Fabregas, VDV, Nani Adam (Cahill)
    RVP, Carroll/Odemwingie (Berbatov)

    0.2m in bank.

9 double gameweekers for GW27, 3 United players all ready for their double in GMW28 and 2 Everton and 2 Brum for their doubles in GW29. My only concern is having no Liverpool investment ahead of their game against Wigan in GW27. Also City have nice fixtures in GW28 & 29 (FUL, WIG) but I'd like to think I'd have the Gonads to ship RVP for Tevez ahead of GW28.

    So, ermm yeah...

Cheers, good shout, worst case scenario in that case is thay Carroll is fit and I'd have to downgrade elsewhere. However, assuming he's still injured (and I go with Odemwingie) that should give me the flexibility to take the price rises on the chin.

right so heres my thaughts on the double game week and the folling game week.

Arsenal- have an excellent double which needs investment. gameweek 28 no game/ a hard game against tottenham need to keep an eye on that. (2 arsenal players)

Birmingham- have two good fixtures for the double but no game the week after means no more than 2 birmingham players imo

Tottenham have one very good firxtue in the double and a tricky gae away at sunderland. game week 28 no game/ arsenal. VDV seems to be the only essential imo

Blackpool have two ok fixtures and a good fixture in game week 28 which means adam is essential

Newcastle have two winnable games so need csome cover there with a good fixture game week 28

stoke have one good fixture and one bad fixture so poss 1 player from stoke as cover as they also have a good fixture game week 28

wba have excellent fixtures so poss 2 players from them for both game weeks

wolves have a double but are wolves so stay away

    thats just my thaughts

All valid, points & pretty much exactly what I've picked up on when looking at the ticker. The fixtures almost dictate how many and who you should invest in from each team. Which is why my W/C team pretty much picked itself.

Need to transfer in a defender or GK - where to do it is the question. Current backline:

    Gordon Krul
    Evra Nelsen Jara Walker Coleman

I could do Krul->Stockdale & play Jara Evra & Coleman.

I am tempted to take a punt on Gordon for the save points and do Nelsen->Kelly to play Coleman Kelly & Evra.

    Thoughts?

Same for me, thats why i maybe will use the two freebees for gw26 and hold my wildcard for gw27, but hard to decide, seems very much logical to use it for gw26..

You could take a risk and get Stockdale (or Myhill) for Kingson.
But I agree, I see no other tempting transfers.

Trying to which defenders to pick for my WC. I'm not too bothered about players with a chance of goals and assists, I'd rather pick a back line which is likely to a) offer clean sheets, b) will rotate well and c) be affordable to allow me to spend on my attacking 8.

    So far I've got:

    Rafael, Bardsley, Djourou, Dawson, Kelly

Question: Is this a good WC defence, which fits my criteria?

Also on my watchlist are Huth, Coleman, Bosingwa and Ciaran Clark...

Very much CS potential in that backline, and you might even get a rare assist from rafa or kelly, so i like it

Sunderland have kept the same amount of cleansheets as Chelsea and Manchester City (11). Plus considering we thought they'd concede at Stamford Bridge and they go and win 3-0. I think it's a semi-safe investment.

It's a great stat and you really don't think that Sunderland have kept the same amount of cleansheets as Manchester City, who always seem to keep clean sheets.

You see I've gone with a different approach to you on my defence. I've kinda changed my philosophy now that, because the strikers are starting to hit form, more and more goals are being scored and their are less CS popping up. I'm going for:

      Coleman, Simpson, Kelly, Murphy, Bardsley.

It's cheap, still offers a little point potential and it means I can invest in my forwards and mids.

OK guys, 81 points... yet another bad week where it appears lesser quality players are outscoring the likes of VDV.

Where can you help this mess then?

    Foster (Krul)
    Coleman Vidic Coleman Simpson (Konchesky)
    Nani VDV Adam Yaya NZog
    Torres Rooney (Varney)

    Cash spare: 4.2

Krul - Konch - Varney seem 3 obvious ones to remove in WC.

It's currently happening that it doesn't matter who I pick, they still won't do as well as poorer valued alternatives.

How much chance do you all think there really is that Adam will be moved? It seems no other player is more vital to his teams success. Are there better players? Surely. But losing adam could single-handedly drop Blackpool out of the PL. Its nice to turn a big profit on a guy but what are you going to do with the money? Install undersoil heating when Scunthorpe comes to town?
