Following on from last night’s article in the wake of Arsenal’s passage to the Carling Cup final, we’ve now had the second piece of the puzzle completed with Birmingham confirmed as the Gunners’ opponents after their 4-3 aggregate win over West Ham. This has resulted in further disruption to the Premier League fixture list which has pretty significant repercussions for us Fantasy Managers. Have a pen and paper handy…

In the wake of making the trip to Wembley, Birmingham will be forced to postpone two of their forthcoming fixtures (one indefinitely, one rescheduled). The hotly anticipated proposition of a triple fixture in Gameweek 27 has fallen by the wayside as Birmingham are now forced to move their visit to Everton back a fortnight to March 9 to allow a full week of preparation for the final on Sunday February 27. That still leaves them with a double Gameweek here, with games against Stoke and Newcastle at home to come.

However, Birmingham will also see their trip to Stamford Bridge, currently scheduled for February 26 (Gameweek 28), postponed. Unlike the Spurs vs Arsenal clash postponed from the weekend of the same Gameweek, a move to a midweek slot for this fixture is not possible as Chelsea already face Man United on the Tuesday. Birmingham will now have a blank in Gameweek 28 then – casting real doubt over the wisdom of heavy investment in their players for their Gameweek 27 double.

There is a further consideration however. Birmingham’s trip to Everton, postponed from Gameweek 27, will now move to Gameweek 29. That will slot alongside a home clash against Roberto Di Matteo’s West Brom, giving Birmingham a rather odd schedule of two double Gameweeks sandwiching their Gameweek 28 blank. Got that? Good.

This obviously has repercussions elsewhere, as the double fixture that Chelsea previously had penciled in for Gameweek 28 has been demoted to a single fixture against United. Were United or Chelsea to progress in the FA Cup this weekend and pick up draws in the fifth round (on February 19), that fixture will also be shunted to allow for replays. Everton meanwhile, have their double of (bol/BIR) in Gameweek 27 removed and turn into (new/BIR) a couple of weeks later in Gameweek 29.

Plenty to take in when considering transfers, wildcards and strategies then. Season Tickers will be updated with all the relevant details later today.

I've done the same. It's not a bad idea at all. Only Arsenal have a really attractive DGW and that might not even turn out too good with rotation. Last week was the best time to play it, easy to see that now with hindsight.

Forwards look okay but I'm gonna try and get some West Brom attacking cover in, so Odem or Brunt for the double. Wildcard gone? Defenders facing Chelsea at home, Arsenal away are a bit worrying, Coleman may not return more than 1 point again.

It's going to be hard to lower our expectations again this week. Getting 60 points will feel a bit 'meh' maybe 🙂

Why do people think Everton v Birmingham (Wed 23rd Feb) will be postponed because Birmingham are in the Carling Cup Final. After all Arsenal play Stoke on Tue 22nd Feb, yet that game doesn't get suggested as possibly being cancelled. Surely if it is an issue the Everton v Birmingham game can be played also on Tue 22nd Feb, given both sides the same time to prepare.

Unless it's been confirmed on either of the two clubs' websites then I think the games will still be played giving Birmingham a triple gameweek.

I'm thinking keep it exactly as last week and save 2 transfers for next week, wc week after:

    --------Al Habsi
    Vidic---Coleman-----Kolorov
    VDV-Nani-Nasri-Dempsey-Adam
    ------Berb(c)---Torres

Bench: Gilks, K Toure, Simpson, Carroll

Defence is the only thing i'm tempted to change but can't really pick out anyone who I would bring in with guaranteed CS.

    Any input appreciated, thanks.

Very similar teams... same midfield and same 2 stikers (+RVP for me)... I have to decide Coleman (away at ARS) or Evatt home vs WHM ?? I'd save transfer to extra one for 27 or 28...

        Cheers guys.

The lack of RVP does worry me, but I want Torres and Berb, so the only way I could get him in would be for a 4 pt hit which would be Carroll & Vidic > RVP & Kelly. If I were to do that then i'd have to bench one of midfield too, which I'm not particularly keen on doing.

united, aresnal, chelsea, spurs all have DGWs left...you know what, screw this WC for DGW27 plan!!! Im just going to get the best players, in form and reasonably priced and come what may. after last week, seems more vital to just pick the right captain than it is to impress everyone with having 10 DGWers in. so with the top clubs, save for city, all having a DGW left, Im going to get a bomb squad that is good for the long haul, and just hope having 7-8 DGWers for GW27 is good enough.

a RMWCT is sure to follow: Im going to be even more annoying than usual for the next few days.

I got 136 didn't captain Berbs but had him in the team and had 7 DGWers. I won't be making sure I have 11 for GW27, not if it means destroying my team but I'll at least have 3 Arsenal, Foster, Odemwingie, VDV.

    cahill and etherington or

      Berbs, Tevez, RVP

    2 WC Questions:

    1. Dawson or Coleman (prefer a defence of potential clean-sheeters I can rotate based on fixtures rather than potential attacking returns but likelihood of conceding)

    2. Best mid-priced (up to 6m) that ISN'T Charlie Adam (already got him in)

heres a draft of the WC, only the 5th one in the last couple weeks, love some feedback, suggestions, or just general bashing of some sort:

    Foster/Begovic

    Rafael/Coleman/Carr/Djourou/Kelly

    Nani/VDV/Fabs/Adam/Brunt

    Berbs/Tevez/RVP

    leaves .2 in bank
    Questions:

Should i not invest in Rafael with the concussion? Maybe Kolarov?
Should i reconsider Adam giving his potential move?
Is 3 united and 3 arsenal overkill or make total sense?
Is there cheaper alternative to any of these guys you would consider? Guys i want but arent in ATM: Malouda, Bent, Cahill

I've gone Van der sar instead of Rafael for safety.
With a cheap keeper who can rot on the bench.
