Following on from last night’s article in the wake of Arsenal’s passage to the Carling Cup final, we’ve now had the second piece of the puzzle completed with Birmingham confirmed as the Gunners’ opponents after their 4-3 aggregate win over West Ham. This has resulted in further disruption to the Premier League fixture list which has pretty significant repercussions for us Fantasy Managers. Have a pen and paper handy…

In the wake of making the trip to Wembley, Birmingham will be forced to postpone two of their forthcoming fixtures (one indefinitely, one rescheduled). The hotly anticipated proposition of a triple fixture in Gameweek 27 has fallen by the wayside as Birmingham are now forced to move their visit to Everton back a fortnight to March 9 to allow a full week of preparation for the final on Sunday February 27. That still leaves them with a double Gameweek here, with games against Stoke and Newcastle at home to come.

However, Birmingham will also see their trip to Stamford Bridge, currently scheduled for February 26 (Gameweek 28), postponed. Unlike the Spurs vs Arsenal clash postponed from the weekend of the same Gameweek, a move to a midweek slot for this fixture is not possible as Chelsea already face Man United on the Tuesday. Birmingham will now have a blank in Gameweek 28 then – casting real doubt over the wisdom of heavy investment in their players for their Gameweek 27 double.

There is a further consideration however. Birmingham’s trip to Everton, postponed from Gameweek 27, will now move to Gameweek 29. That will slot alongside a home clash against Roberto Di Matteo’s West Brom, giving Birmingham a rather odd schedule of two double Gameweeks sandwiching their Gameweek 28 blank. Got that? Good.

This obviously has repercussions elsewhere, as the double fixture that Chelsea previously had penciled in for Gameweek 28 has been demoted to a single fixture against United. Were United or Chelsea to progress in the FA Cup this weekend and pick up draws in the fifth round (on February 19), that fixture will also be shunted to allow for replays. Everton meanwhile, have their double of (bol/BIR) in Gameweek 27 removed and turn into (new/BIR) a couple of weeks later in Gameweek 29.

Plenty to take in when considering transfers, wildcards and strategies then. Season Tickers will be updated with all the relevant details later today.

What a bollix of a gameweek. Seriously considering Rooney&Nasri>Fab&sub9.5m striker if they both underperform again next week... or is that too knee-jerky?

Hello Chaps, Just wanted your thought son thsi team. Reckon Im OK for this week (and comign weeks)

    Stockdale Foster

    Terry - Rafael - Djourou - Bardsley - Coleman

    Fabregas - Nani - VDV - Adam - N'Zog

    Tevez - RVP - Odemwingie

Just did Odem for Carroll now as worried about Carrols price dropping further. Have 1 more free if I want to use it but thinkign I should sit on it and have another 2 next week if need be? Any glarign probs?

Stockdale was a short term option for the double but not sure who to replace him with as Id just play Foster most weeks? Maybe get Begovic.

Really wanna get Young in soon as well - think he could start scoring big soon. Nice fixtures as well...

Problem is Foster has no game in gw28, so unless Stockdale keeps the no 1 jersey we are playing with no one between the sticks.

budgets tightens when those expensive players get back in form, the popular midfield was all under 10m for a long time, but i will have to fit in fabs when wildcarding on the expense of defence to keep my heavy frontline.. just glad lamps and gerrard are not producing..

Use your wildcard now, don't wait unil near the deadline, you can keep making free changes right up to the deadline anyway.

Some of those will/could go up in price before then.

Been sitting on Carroll even through my wildcard as I bought him at £5m and was loath to lose £0.6-0.7 on him if he was coming back soon. Now I want rid. Should I straight swap for Odemwingie or I had the crazy idea of also getting shut of VDV and getting Berbatov and another budget midfielder like Brunt.

My team is linked, got two transfers but may be knee jerking as I'm not happy with my sub100 score last gameweek.

I only bought VDV in 2 weeks back so have no real loss of value concerns there.

thoughts on current team? feeling it atm after the Berbatov incident and thinking of using wildcard in gwk 26.

    Alhabsi (Foster)
    Ivanovic Rafael, Kolarov (Coleman Foley)
Fabregas (c) Nani VDV Adam (Yaya)
    Tevez Torres (Varney)

Worried about VDV now without Bale but don't really want 3 man city players this week...

Is this a good line up for this week?

    Any further ideas welcome

Torn over my final defender in my WC team. I'm going for all budget/mid-priced defenders who rotate well. My key priority is getting clean sheets as these are more likely. Asissts/goals are a bonus but secondary to clean sheets.

So which one of these three, and why:

    Coleman, Dawson, or Huth.

I just can't choose. Coleman offers attacking potential, but much smaller chance of cleanies. Dawson offers good chance of cleanies and occasional bonus, but nothing else. Huth is somewhere in the middle...

i always go coleman. for a defender, his attacking is more than potential, its a reality (see Kolarov). And when i think CS, i dont think of spurs being tighter defensively than Everton. Maybe they have been lately, but overall say if both clubs were hosting blackburn, I would expect everton to have as good a shot at a CS as spurs do, save for a rash of injuries on the back line.

Id rank them coleman, huth, dawson.

Ok this is my team for the next week and I'm thinking of saving my transfer for this week.

    Robinson

    Vidic Djourou Kelly

    Adam VDV Nasri Nani

    Berbatov Torres (C) Tevez

Subs Foster / Dempsey / Crainey / Foley

So this week no transfers, leaving me 2 for next week which would be Torres and Nasri out for RVP and Cahill or A.Young.

    Then GW27 - wildcard.

    Anything you would change?

We'd rake it in, superstitious types Fantasy Footballers. How many times do you see the word 'jinx' during match days, or peoples belief that what they post on here actually affects a game hundreds of miles away.
The captains poll alone would be a money spinner, and I can prove it works - when I captain Tevez he usually gets 4 points (after doubling), the week I didnt he got 26! 🙂

    Djourou, Kelly, Vidic (Simpson, Kolorov)
    Dempsey, Nani, VDV, Fabregas, Adam
    Berbatov, Tevez (Carroll)

If I brought in Odemwingie this week, I'm not sure I'd play him ahead of Dempsey, although I suppose value has to come into it. Also presuming Adam stays, he'd have to be played. I'm thinking Tevez at home this week looks good so not tempted to switch to RVP yet. Any thoughts on whether to make a transfer or just hold on until next week? (Playing WC in DGW27)

If you've got anything in the bank I'd being in a keeper for a couple of weeks in place of Carson.

Then again I guess it depends on how fast Carroll is dropping and whether you stand to lose much.

Yep, I'm still not 100% on my Wildcard whether I'll try and shoehorn in RVP, but that will leave me with 10 players in the DGW if I keep VDV unless the game gets re-arranged in the same week. I'll have to monitor the situation on TotalFPL I think.

I can't really see any keeper that tempts me in terms of CS's over the next two weeks.

    Toying with this WC team:

    Foster/robinson

    collins/djorou/kelly/samba/simpson

    fab/nani/vdv/adam/brunt

    odemwingie/torres/RVP

Can i get away with a defence this cheap?!

        Fabs + RVP + Brunt/Odem

Not much in it with Brunt vs Odem I feel.

        to date-
        Brunt played 1877 mins - 87 points
        Odem played 1588 mins - 86 points

plus teh fact he's 0.4 cheaper is why i went for Odem

        A- VDV and Odemwingie
        B- Berbatov and Brunt

        Already got Fabregas and RVP.

    Another Carroll post:

So he's out against Fulham and Arsenal. Then its the double but both games are away to Blackburn and Birmingham. Two teams that dont concede many and have decent defence.

Surely the time to sell is now?!

Is this currently considered the best frontline option?

Nice WC prospect Milky, just checked and I can afford that too but I'm not sure I'd go for it. Still not keen on Malouda and I think I'd want a slightly better defence so I'd stick with Adam/Brunt/N'Zog and upgrade the defence. At least that's what I'll be doing.
