Arsene Wenger has today confirmed Wojciech Szczesny as Arsenal’s number one keeper.
Speaking ahead of the FA Cup tie with Huddersfield on Sunday, the Arsenal boss praised the performances of the Pole and stated that he had no plans to drop him permanently from his starting lineup, despite the return of Manuel Almunia to Sunday’s squad, although he did hint at rotation for the Cup encounter.
“At the moment Wojciech is number one…He has done nothing for me to take him out, but I can rotate the goalkeepers.”
Fantasy Managers will immediately be put on alert as a result of this statement. It was expected that Lukasz Fabianski would automatically return to Arsenal’s starting XI once he has recovered from his shoulder injury; that no longer appears to be the case.
Szczesny is now clearly first choice and the role is his to lose. If he goes on impressing, there’s every reason to suspect that he could hold down starts for the coming Gameweeks – that includes Arsenal’s attractive Emirates double fixture in Gameweek 27.
The 20-year old stopper is valued at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game and offers very strong value for a defence that has kept 4 consecutive clean sheets in the league. The only downside to drafting in Szczesny, which also applies to Johan Djourou (4.2) in defence, is that his selections uses up one of three slots that can be filled with Arsenal’s wealth of attacking talent.
